WHO: Alice Ayres and Raphael.
WHERE: An alley outside of a club.
WHEN: Tonight, around 1AM.
RATING: We'll just say R for violence and swearing. I'll change it if it goes past that.
STATUS: Incomplete.

Alice's old club was gone, and now she had to look for a job. In her line of work, that meant putting on some cute underthings, an itty bitty denim skirt, a tank top, and impractical heels and going from club to club to see if they had any openings for a new girl. Given her experience, she thought it would be easy enough to find a place that wanted her. The only problem was that she was somewhat fussy, and she wanted to work somewhere where the bouncer wouldn't grab her ass, or the DJ wasn't doing blow, or where her cut of the tips would actually be decent.

She'd left at 9:45, and had finally found a place that met all of her criteria and wanted her around 12:50. She'd made arrangements to start the next evening, and waved goodbye as she exited (for the last time) through the customer door at the front.

Around the corner, she leaned against the brick to light a cigarette out of her purse. No sooner had she pressed the filter to her lips did she feel someone approaching her from out of the alley adjacent to the club. She tried to move away, some instinct telling her this person was not a friend, but surprise made her slow. A hand clamped down hard on her mouth before she could scream, the cigarette falling to her feet.

The gloom of the alley made it hard for her to see, and she closed her eyes, hoping a mugging was all they were looking for. The sound of a switchblade didn't increase her hopes.

Alice watched the other guy as his hand dropped to his side, praying that he was armed and at least sort of knew how to use it. She bit her lip, waiting for the guy to relax his grip on her.

He did, eventually shoving her to the side, sending her slamming hard into the brick wall. She heard a dull thud as she hit her head, but it didn't knock her out. She'd end up having to call in sick for her first few days of work until her face healed up, but (hopefully) she wouldn't be dead. Finding her arms and legs functional, she crawled backward slowly, trying to get out of the guy's sight.

It didn't work.

"Don't move, or so help me I'll kill you and then take your wallet," the guy said, keeping his eyes trained on the new arrival.

The violent smack of bone on brick made Raphael instinctively take half a step toward the woman. Chicks getting tossed around made him less forgiving and Raph wasn't much for amnesty to begin with. He sneered and took a step forward.

"Nice going, genius," Raphael taunted in his lightly graveled voice. "Now you are gonna have to suck pavement."

With a blink-fast flick of his hand Raph let a sai fly. It cut soundlessly through the air and right past the jerk's leg to sink into a nearby light pole, but the young ninja hadn't missed what he intended.

Raphael was on the dumb bastard likely before he'd even realized Raph had moved. With an empowering yell, his foot connected solidly with the guy's knife hand. Hearing the weapon go skittering away, Raphael squared up his stance and gave a tip of his chin -- challenging the mugger to try and hit him.

Alice touched her head and felt blood, trying hard to stay awake in case she needed to get up and run. But she was fighting off wooziness, and she thought she might actually be concussed or something. She wasn't a doctor, and it was hard to think while she was bleeding and terrified.

The mugger, on the other hand, was enraged that some asshole kid had managed to disarm him. His fists rose, and he moved closer, swinging his fist in a slow right hook. He was obviously a guy that was used to winning via intimidation instead of skill.

Raph could see that this was going to be a short fight.

His right forearm shot up to deflect the punch downward and his left hand seized the sleeve of the muggers jacket. Raphael stepped into the man and his right hand shot to the guy's throat. All his weight went to his left leg as his right wrapped one of the mugger's calves and swept backward to lift the foot. With the guy caught off-balance, Raph easily slapped him to the ground. Holding onto the arm to keep the mugger prone, Raphael dug his fingers into the meat of the neck they held.

"Say 'uncle', moron," he seethed through gritted teeth.

The wind had gotten knocked out of the muggers' lungs, and he coughed and spluttered as he landed on the ground. "Fine, fine, get off of me!" He sounded like he'd been hit in the stomach, and he pretty much had.

Alice, for her part, had managed to stand up. She was still a little dizzy, and she leaned against the wall for support. She at least wanted to thank the random guy who'd helped her. ... and then maybe see if he could get her a cab. The wall was doing a good job of propping her up, but walking would probably be a lot harder.

Having long since gone limp, realizing that there were other purses to be stolen a long way away from the guy who was all fast like a freak, the mugger lay still.

"Shudup," Raph said with a dismissive shake of his head. He threw the mugger to ground with a hint of revulsion before clocking him good and square to the side of the head. Even if it didn't knock him out, he sure wasn't going to be getting up for a while. Hopefully long enough for the cops to pick him up.

Leaning a knee into the middle of the mugger's back, Raphael brandished a handful of zip ties from his jacket pocket and set about putting make-shift cuffs on the wrists of the stupid lump beneath him.

As he worked, he cast a glance over to the woman who had gotten to her feet. His expression darkened in concern when he saw the blood. She should be sitting down and probably needed a doctor.

"You okay there, doll? Got a phone on ya?"

Alice kicked off her heels, figuring she'd be a lot more likely to not fall down if she wasn't five extra inches off of the ground. "Been better, but I'm not impaled on a switchblade." She dug through her purse for her cell phone, reaching out to hand it to him. She didn't take too many steps toward him, because she wasn't too keen on falling again.

"Thanks, by the way." She'd pulled out some Kleenex from her purse and was working at cleaning the blood off of her temple and cheek.

Raph hadn't realized how petite the woman truly was until the shoes came off and she dropped about half a foot. He raised one eyebrow and reached across the distance to take the phone. Bringing it back to himself, his thumb slid under the hard plastic of the phone and flipped it open.

"Yeah, yeah. Don't mention it," he muttered at the glowing screen as he dialed emergency. He put the cell to his ear and stood. The details of the attack he kept brief, but for the location and mugger's description he gave more detail. As he talked to the operator, Raph stooped and grabbed hold of the mugger's jacket. Raphael gave a firm tug to get the guy moving and proceeded to slowly drag him on his belly to be directly beneath the street light. When the operator asked for his name, Raph hung up.

The sai protruding from the light pole came free with minimal wiggling and stowed it beneath his jacket. "You got about six minutes before a patrol lights up this alley," Raphael said as he approached the woman to hand back the phone. "I don't plan on bein' here."

Alice watched as he dialed 911, in theory to get the cops to come and take care of the mugger. She still cleaned the blood off of her face, somewhat distressed to find that it wasn't slowing, even with pressure - a sure sign that she'd probably need stitches. That, and she was quickly growing too woozy enough to care.

In her peripheral vision, she saw her rescuer approach her to hand back her phone. However, her vision was starting to swim, and it sounded like the world's volume was getting quickly turned down. "I - " She took a step toward him and grew dizzier. It wasn't long before she blacked out completely, crumpling to the ground.

Shit. There she goes--

Raph darted forward to catch the slumping woman by the shoulders before she ate pavement. A momentarily forgotten phone clattered on the ground at his feet. There wasn't much to her; Raphael easily went to one knee to prop her weight on his leg and cradle her neck with his forearm. His own pulse increasing with his worry, Raph pressed two fingertips to the clammy flesh of her neck and was relieved when he felt a prominent beat. She'd just passed out and likely had some head trauma.

"Damn," he hissed and used his free hand to feel the ground around them to collect her things. The shoes were laid on her abdomen and the cell phone and bloody tissues, stuffed away in the purse that went over Raph's shoulder. He swore again in frustration before shifting his weight to get a better grip on her and stagger to his feet with a grunt.

He hefted the tiny woman and used the motion to toss her dangling limp arm onto her chest, jostling the shoes. Raph tipped her toward him to cause the shoes to fall back against his chest. It was then that he noticed that the blood from the head wound was starting to dribble down her cheek. Carefully, Raphael shift the woman so the injured side of her face fell against his breast and concealed the wound. He took a deep breath and started walking. Knowing he only had a couple more minutes before the police arrived, his pace was quick as he headed away from the scene.

Raphael kept his chin ducked which caused his hair to fall forward. His eyes stayed on the street watching for a passing taxi as he headed in the direction of a hospital he'd spotted earlier on his initial free-run through the area.

She came to in a cab, easily identifiable by its movement and dim light. She winced as the glare from the LEDs that lit up the meter sent jabs of pain straight into her eyes, burrowing faintly into the warm thing she was leaning against. When she looked up and found it was the cute guy who'd saved her, she didn't care overmuch.

"Your shirt," she mumbled, her tongue dry and suddenly too big for her mouth. She wondered where they were going and squinted against pain as they rounded a corner. She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her head further into his chest, trying to obliterate any sort of light from getting into her eyes and sending that searing pain down her spine again.

"I have other ones," Raph muttered in reply though he was unsure if she could actually understand the words with such a nasty whack to the head. His eyes had reflexively glanced to her when he felt her stir against him. Now they slid back to the middle of the front dashboard to watch the fare count upwards.

Raphael tensed momentarily when she slung onto him and embraced his neck. He let out nasal sigh as he saw more and more sidewalk roll past. Just a few more blocks and he could pass the poor girl in his arms to more capable hands.

"Mmm, still," she mumbled, wincing faintly as she felt the blood cool on her face. "Sorry for the grabby. Light trying to kill me." She wasn't as articulate as she'd normally be on account of feeling like her skull was a few sizes too small.

She hoped that he'd leave her at a hospital. What he did after that was his choice, and honestly, she'd lived in New York long enough to assume he'd get her in the door at the very most. Hell, what he'd done already was above and beyond the call of duty. A couple of stitches on the cheek were nothing compared to a slit throat.
