Books were his solace, his escape from the harsh reality around him. For an hour or so, he could lose himself in fiction or in someone's data and ignore all that worried him. And the worries were numerous at the moment. He had been almost sanguine in the process of moving, assumed that he could leave his demons in Gotham. Sure, he would never be hired in Gotham again after the incident in the narrows, but surely humanity would be too stupid to actually pay attention to the black spots in his past, not when he was brilliant enough to dazzle any prospective employers.
He was perusing the psychology section of the Strand, knowing there was something he needed to research more but stalling, afraid of the answer he knew he'd receive. He was losing time, and he was starting to wonder if Scarecrow wasn't just his imaginary protector. After being dosed in fear toxin, something had snapped. He assumed that the stint with the Scarecrow had been temporary, when he woke up from the taser shock he had regained his sense of self.
