It was just a simple movie night between friends, right? Ray was sure of that, mostly, despite what had occurred between them in faux Paris. She seemed to think of him as a Friend, and while he liked her as more, he did not want to make her uncomfortable.

So, movie night.

Right.

He fidgeted with his casual suit, and finally just nodded. No matter how many times he transformed it to something new, he would still be nervous, so, yes. He walked to the elevators, and then traveled to her room, arriving to knock, and wait, leaning on the wall.

As he waited for her to answer, the Astronaut's Prayer ran through his mind. Lord, please don't let me mess this up.

Candy had just thrown on jeans, a t-shirt, and a pair of sneakers. They were going to the movies, so it wasn't like she needed to dress up at all. Pulling her hair back, she thought about things she needed to bring with her, grabbing her wallet and putting it into her back pocket, and her cell phone for the front pocket. She was setting it to silent when the knock sounded at her door. Pushing it into her jeans pocket she grabbed her keys, and then opened the door.

"Hi! You look... am I underdressed?" Her eyes widened. She felt a pang in her stomach and swallowed hard against it. She wished she liked Ray. It would be so much easier to like someone who wasn't Jack.

	"You look... really nice." She felt warm, and it was hard to tell if it was the effect of his powers or his presence, but she tried to ignore it. "I'm all set if you are." Once her apartment was locked up, she put her keys in her other pocket, never one to carry a purse. "How do you want to get there? I figured we'd just take the subway like regular people." "On occasion." Her voice was quieter than usual, if only because of the unspoken tension between them. It wasn't a big deal that he liked her, it was a big deal that she knew. She was trying not to say anything about it, and it ended up with her mostly being quiet.

She made her way to the subway, using her Metropass and making sure he had his own way of getting aboard before looking at the map to see which stop they needed to use. She still wasn't intimately familiar.

	Ray found himself getting more and more quiet as well. and not a little depressed. If she would just say something! Then, maybe he would know... something. But he already knew she didnt like him. 	She didn't realize it might unnerve him, and looked back. "We could just walk? I didn't - I didn't know you might not like it." She was striking out on all sides - Jack didn't even know she existed, she'd pissed off one guy online, and poor Ray didn't deserve her inattention. "And I shouldn't be here, I should be in the Abarat with John and his brothers and Geneva and - " She cut herself off by biting her lip hard, trying not to cry. "I keep making people mad. Candy was surprised to be in his arms, and it was all the impetus she needed to burst into tears. "I should be away, I shouldn't - they're dying, Ray, I know they are - and ... I wish I liked you, I do. You're nice, and you're funny, and you're cute, and a good kisser, and ... "

Her voice trailed off, and she let herself cry against his chest, feeling everything drain out of her: her own sadness at not being able to help her friends, her stupid schoolgirl crush, even Boa mourning the lost of her beloved a second time.
