Peter had a history of not being able to adjust to new situations. Turning up in New York in 2008 was no exception. The city was so different from everything he remembered. In 1946 Peter was living under rationing conditions, the United Nations had only met once, the cold war had just started, Clement Attlee was Prime Minister of Britain, the National Health Service hadn’t started yet, homosexuality was still illegal, there were no betting shops and you could only buy alcohol between certain hours on a Sunday. Peter couldn’t really believe how much the world had changed.
Peter had a lot to adjust to. Especially the fact that he had kissed Caspian. He didn’t want to think about that, he was trying very hard to ignore the fact that it had ever happened. That was why Peter had gone to a nearby pub, hoping that he could at least get very drunk. The plan would have worked if he looked older than his eighteen years.
He got into an argument with the bartender over the legal drinking age, and then he had bumped into a very drunk man on the way out of the bar. The next thing he knew, Peter was in the middle of a fight and was being hauled off the other man by a police officer.
“Alright, sunshine, you’re fucking nicked.” The English officer said, slapping the handcuffs onto his wrists before pushing him into the backseat of the police car. Peter leant back and let out a deep breath, his shoulder hurt and he could feel blood trickle down the side of his face. None of this was anywhere near as bad as the knowledge that Susan was going to kill him
They had interviewed him, and eventually had just left him in one of the cells to wait for his sister. He knew he was lucky that they weren’t pressing charges but he didn’t feel lucky. He was beginning to wish that he had them call anyone apart from Susan, he could already imagine what she was going to say and the look that she was going to give him for this.
