Who: Dream and Clio
Where: The Dreaming
What: Conversation?
When: late Sunday night
Rating: TBD

She had been keeping to herself for more reasons than one. More of her sisters had arrived, and although she knew the origin of what brought them here she knew it wasn't their time to leave and that at least some of them would be staying for a long, long while. It had put her in a sour mood and she had found herself wandering the Dreaming after gaining Dream's permission.

Clio was there now, perusing and walking along at her own pace. She had come into the knowledge that Pepper had come back and that things with the Endless were perhaps a little more stable ... and while she wouldn't admit it, it was for that reason she walked the Dreaming as she did now, hoping to see Dream. It had been a terribly long time since she had seen him in person, as it were, and the mere thought of it made her feel childishly happy despite the complications she knew it would bring about.

Things were different now, true, but old habits died hard and the thought of upsetting one of her sisters was not a pleasant one.

Dream wasn't exactly pleased with his brother and after exchanging some very carefully chosen words with him about responsibilities and rules he had retired to the Dreaming.

It had come to his attention the moment that Clio had stepped into the Dreaming and he made his way to meet her. It only took him a moment before he was standing in front of her. Tall, skinny, white skin and messy dark hair. He nodded at her; "Lady Clio," He said. "I am delighted that you have decided to join me in the Dreaming."

She didn't bother to hide the smile that appeared on her lips when she saw that he'd come to greet her. Clio ducked her head slightly and nodded herself.

"I'm pleased to see you as well. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the Dreaming." She pointedly didn't mention his family's ... problems, despite knowing what had happened. It wasn't polite around even people she disliked, so Dream certainly warranted more discretion.

"You are welcome here whenever you wish." Dream said. He was glad that she didn't mention his family's current problems. It wasn't something he wanted to dwell on just now.

"Would you like some refreshment?" He asked, remembering his manners.

"I will keep that in mind," she admitted, resisting the urge to blush. It wasn't as if she'd had eventful trysts and liaisons like some of her sisters, after all. She'd had Hyacinth, but that had been long ago. Even before Calliope and Dream.

"If it means your company," she allowed with a nod.

Dream nodded. "It does." He said. "We shall go to my castle and there we will get something to eat."

He offered her a small, tiny smile, "How are you finding your stay in the waking world?" He had been surprised to see so many muses in one place, including Calliope. It had been a long time since he had seen her. It complicated matters slightly.

Even immortals could feel young, she supposed. Clio shifted her jacket around herself and paused, hesitating in her answer.

"It has been ... intriguing. Having my sisters so close again is strange after so long."

Dream nodded. It wasn't exactly normal for the Endless to be so close to each other all the time and... living so close to his siblings was odd for him. Not unpleasant. Just unusual.

"It has been good to see you all again," Dream said. "You especially, Clio."

This time she couldn't exactly hide the slight flush to her cheeks. "I am surprised to hear you say that."

She chewed her lip while they walked.

"Why?" Dream asked. He had always enjoyed the Muse's company. Calliope had been special to him but that had ended a long time ago and he wasn't interested in it starting up again. "You're pleasant company, Clio. You always have been."

"Not so pleasant as my sisters, I fear." She laughed quietly and shook her head. It wasn't as if she thought less of herself than she did of them, but they did seem more popular with the majority of the world. More useful in the long run.

"But I am glad you think so. I've always found your company favorable."

"History is just as important as the other forms of inspiration. Without it people cannot learn and they cannot move forwards." Dream said. "You are all important in your own ways. Never think that you are less than your sisters."

He looked up at his castle and nodded, "Please come inside." He said.

She stepped inside as he beckoned her and smiled radiantly.

"Naturally, but I think people tend to forget that. My influences are latent and far less obvious to most mortals." But she needed to keep her realm and responsibilities in line.

"People often forget what is important to them." Dream said as he guided her towards the dining room. "Please, take a seat."

Dream looked at her curiously for a moment and then nodded, "Yet you should still influence them. It's your duty."

Clio glanced to him with her own curious look and then laughed quietly as she took a seat.

"Have you ever seen me shirk my duties, Lord Dream? I should hope not." She wasn't his brother, after all. She kept that much to herself as usual.

"No. I have not." Dream admitted. "I apologise for the insinuation, Lady Clio." It had been a trying weekend and Dream also was still no closer to understanding his brothers motives for abandoning his post.

He was trying not to think of it, however. "What would you like to eat?"

She understood why he would want to, but perhaps not how he could go through with it.

"Forgiven instantly," she murmured with a shake of her head, bringing her hand to brush his impulsively for a moment. When Clio heard his words, however, she paused thoughtfully.

"Something nostalgic?" Anything that he felt like, in other words.

"Thank you." Dream said, quirking his lips into a small smile. It disappeared quickly though, Dream didn't smile very often. Although her company was pleasing. It had been too long since he had spoken to her.

"I'll have a glass of white wine and a Spanish omlette."

"That sounds lovely." She noticed the smile and was instantly pleased about it herself - she knew he didn't smile particularly often.

It was ... encouraging.

"And for Lady Clio also." Dream said. It didn't take long for their food to be brought to them and Dream sipped the wine slowly.

"Is it to your satisfaction?" He asked. Meaning the food, of course.

She took a bite of the omelet and nodded hesitantly.

"Yes, certainly." After a moment, though, she added, "But the company is better."

Dream smiled again. "I have no complaints about the company either, Clio." He said. It was a compliment, coming from Dream. "Also. I would like to thank you for the book. It is very interesting."

He knew that she hadn't left her name with it but he was smart enough to guess that she had left the gift for him.

She knew it was a compliment coming from Dream - although that combined with thanking her for the book did make her blush just a little.

The point had been that he would know who it was from and other snoopy people in the hotel might not. "I'd been meaning to give it to you for some time," she admitted. Give or take a few hundred years.
