Who: James Logan and Kayla
What: A nighttime picnic and stargazing. BUT IT'S NOT A DATE OK?
Where: A clearing just inside the forest off campus
When: Tonight, around now-ish.
Warnings: This more than likely ends in a ftb. Because they can't help it.

The moon was barely a sliver in the sky, a fingernail. But even in this state, its light competed with that of the stars, shining bright and pale in the dark sky. They had made it out this far. Kayla had brought a flashlight with her, a blanket. She didn't own a picnic basket so they best she could do was her satchel, but that would more than do. She stopped as they crested the hill in the clearing. James had said stargazing and this place was perfect for it. By now Kayla's eyes had adjusted to the dim light so she could mostly make out James' face as she turned towards him.

"Here?"

She had brought a blanket with her as well, and she unfolded it now, shaking it out and letting it balloon out before settling on the ground. She set her bag down as well, looking towards James again and offering him something of a smile. It was a night not unlike this a long time ago when they'd looked at the same stars, or were they different here? Well, whether they were or they weren't, everything else was different now too. She'd been over these things in her mind.

For now she simply knelt on the blanket and began taking out the things she had brought.

James Logan had on his normal brown bomber jacket that he had aquired before he had lost his memory. On his back was a army bag of one kind or another. Probably surplus but it did the job quite well. In his pack was a thing of crackers and the wine.

Logan nodded as Kayla asked him the question. "Yup this is the place. I discovered it while out scouting the area here one day. I looked out here in the night once and figured out that it was really good for stargazing," he said looking upwards. James neglected to say that he had gotten turned around and had to use the North Star to find his way back home.

He sat down on the blanket and opened the wine, pouring a glass for Kayla and then handing it to her. "Thanks for coming out with me," he said looking over at her with a smile.

With a laugh, she shook her head. "Thank you for inviting me. It's a much better way to spend my night than I initially planned." Her gaze flickered upwards, taking note of the star-filled sky. Her eyes traced over a familiar constellation or two before drifting over towards the waning moon.

Kayla shifted then, curling her feet beneath her on the blanket. She held the glass in her hand absently, twisting it back and forth just slightly before finally glancing down towards it and taking a sip of the sweet white wine, perfect for a night like this where summer was still trying valiantly to hang on and fall was just as intent on coming. She took the sandwiches out from her pack setting them down between them.

"Besides, I do enjoy your company you know." She paused before adding teasingly, "Even if you do smell like cedar."

"Well it was a shower then probably watching TV for me or another night out here wandering the woods," he said absentmindedly. He neglected to mention that it would be alone too, and that he considered her company to be much more preferable than being alone.

James took a drink of his wine, about half of it at once and nodded at the taste. It wasn't half bad maybe he could get used to the wine. Not that it would really affect him. He frowned at that idea. Even when that rich guy Stark had taken them out, Logan hadn't really gotten all that buzzed.

I guess it was a part of his curse.

On her comment about his smell, James took a bit of the sawdust, real or imagined on his shoulder and flicked it at her.

Kayla couldn't help but laugh again at that, with a shake of her head. "Very nice, James..." she murmured, half into her wine glass as she took another sip.

Once more her eyes lifted skyward. They weren't that far from campus, but it seemed that they were far enough out that the light pollution didn't dim the stars at all. It was nice, she mused to herself, to feel so secluded.

Well, secluded with company. Perhaps that was the nicest part. The night was getting cool, however, and despite the denim jacket she wore, she shivered slightly.

James smiled at her laughter. It was damn near contagious. He almost wanted to but kept it to himself, finishing off his own wine glass and taking a few big bites into the sandwich he had. "Damn. This is good," he said and took another bite. "You're a great cook. Did I ever tell you that?"

After James had finished off his sandwich he noticed that Kayla was shivering. "Hey, you ok," James asked as he scooted over closer to her. "You cold," he asked and offered her a refill on on the wine.

"You mentioned it once or twice..." she began before she realized that her answer had to do with a long time ago. Almost sheepishly she smiled and added, "But not recently. I'm glad you like it."

Had he noticed that shiver? The faintest beginnings of a blush crept over her features, a light shade of pink mostly hidden by the dim lighting and easily attributable to the wine even if it hadn't been. She held her glass up so that it could be refilled, watching it thoughtfully before nodding. "Just a little. I'll be fine though." The wine would warm her up, after all.

"Well you are," he said as Logan moved over put his arm around Kayla. He drew the blanket up, setting the food aside onto the ground and pulling the blanket up around the two of them.

He poured her more wine. "There. Those two things should be able to keep you warm hm?" he said before he looked up. "There." he pointed out the North Star.

"Interesting. This place isn't back home but it has that constellation still."

Kayla blinked as his arm settled around her, somewhat surprised by the gesture. Still, surprising as it might have been, it was still sweet and she appreciated it. The blanket helped as well, but by far the most warming thing about it was his presence.

"Mm..." she answered, sipping at her wine again. She looked up again, head canting to the side slightly. Reflexively she leaned against him and followed his gaze to the north star. "Same stars, same moon. It's nice that some things are the same."

James leaned back against Kayla as he looked around to the other stars and constellations. He was about to speak up again when his nose caught it. She was wearing perfume. He hadn't noticed that about her before, but had caught his attention before. It hadn't overpowered his sense, which means that she knew just the right amount to apply to catch his attention. Whatever the scent was he liked it. James liked it a lot.

He considered letting it pass, but... In the end he couldn't. He was still staring at her, so close to him. "What is that," he asked quietly, to get her attention. "That perfume," he asked her.

Perfume? She'd barely realized it, but she must have put it on before she left. Perfume to go out stargazing? Or was it going out to see him that had subconsciously driven her to do it. The blush flooded her cheeks again, and she laughed. "Oh, mm. I've always worn it." She had. It was the same fragrance she'd worn for years, as far back as she remembered anyway.

Turning to face him, Kayla went to smile but stopped. He was close. Very close, wasn't he? Almost too close. Her heart was beating faster now and she hoped he didn't notice.

"I like it," he said with a smile. There really was something to it... Maybe it was memories far back, he felt them stirred up. James didn't speak again. He couldn't. She was too close. Again. Too close.

James leaned in farther, and kissed her. His lips meeting hers there in the pale moonlight. His other arm moving around resting on her leg as they stayed together in the embrace.

"Oh," Kayla answered, with a sheer lack of eloquence that would have bothered her if she had been allowed to dwell on it. She was not, however, since she found herself kissed a moment later, all her thoughts were splintered into countless shards that went flying everywhere, like so much broken glass. Her eyes drifted shut as she kissed him back. Lifting a hand she let her fingertips drift over his face before her hand cupped against hiss cheek lightly.

Pulling away from the kiss, she whispered, "James..." quietly, as though perhaps she had something to say. But less than a breath later she was closing the gap between them again, pressing her lips to his again. Why was thinking clearly when she was near him so impossible? Why didn't she care?

As James found himself kissed again he lost all sense of control. His hands moved to Kayla's shirt and slowly began to pull it off of her. He was going to do it again wasn't he? He had a little bit more control this time, he could actually see himself doing it.

Was he going to stop himself from doing what he had done before? God no. He deepened the kiss with Kayla, slowly lowering her towards the ground.

So much for avoiding this situation by staying out of her room. But she was by no means complaining, even if her better reasoning told her she probably shouldn't be doing this. Again.

To hell with her better reasoning, she decided as she felt herself being lowered, the ground cold beneath her back, James warm and close above her. Her hands found their way beneath his shirt, over his chest. This was probably a mistake again. And yet again she didn't care.
