Current mood: energetic

Who: Edge and Namine. And whoever else. :)
Doing what: Being bored. Looking for trouble. The usual.
When: This afternoon
Where: The training center
Warnings: It's Edge... Probably language. Depends on who runs into him.

The weather was predictably unpredictable lately. Five minutes ago it had been sunny with a light breeze. Now it was starting to rain, little droplets pattering on the ground and on the heads of anyone who happened to be outside at the moment. It was the kind of day where one could curl up with a good book and a warm drink and relax the day away. Good studying weather.

To hell with that.

Edge stalked across the campus with his hands shoved in his pockets, his eyes moving restlessly behind dark sunglasses perched on his face. Mainly he was keeping a lookout for a certain spear-wielding blonde. He hadn’t done anything recently to piss Kain off, but that guy was a freak and was liable to jump him for no reason if he saw him. Well alright, Edge would probably give him a good reason to jump him. He couldn’t help taunting the guy. It made his day complete. Still, it would be a shame to get his clothes all muddy...

Ahhh, who was he kidding. He WAS in the mood for a good brawl. Whoever and wherever, he didn’t care. The other guy in his quad, Sanosuke, looked like he’d be a good challenge. He made a mental note to pester the guy later. But since he was heading this direction anyway, he veered off toward the training center instead, whistling under his breath as he went.

Idly he wondered if Rosa would let him take her out later. Hell, Cecil was still too chicken to ask her out himself, so why shouldn't he take advantage of this opportunity? He could treat Rosa to a good time... He would treat her right.

Smirking, Edge walked into the training center and immediately headed toward the room with the more difficult monsters. He stretched his muscles briefly and then went right at it, slashing at various fiends with a sword in each hand, his motions a blur to anyone watching.

Now, Namine was not a stupid girl. Maybe a little foolish, but certainly not stupid. She did happen to be very naive and a little too trusting, sometimes she trusted in her own abilities to handle herself a little too much. And sometimes she trusted her sense of direction a little too much.

She hadn't been at Poseidon long enough to even know there was a training center. So of course when she got lost, following her instincts instead of the signs, she was quite surprised to find herself in a room with monsters.

Monsters she did not know how to fight.

Namine cowered, crying softly in a corner somewhere. She had yet to spot Edge because she was too busy being scared out of her mind but, eventually that would change.

This felt good. It would be even better if the monsters were actually a challenge, but ah well. Maybe Kainy had the right idea. This place could use a little updating, fiend wise. Not that Edge was in a hurry to agree with him. Not out loud anyway.

He backed around the corner, grappling with a rather large fiend when he spotted something out of the corner of his eye. A person? Good, maybe someone had come to join in the fun.

Something didn't feel quite right though. What the hell was that sound? He looked again.

It was a kid. A girl, no less.

"Hey," he called out, impaling the fiend neatly with one of his swords, “What are you-” Before he could finish that sentence, another large fiend appeared from out of nowhere and headed straight towards her, teeth and claws bared.

Shit!

Not stopping to think, he sprinted forward, cutting off its path before it could reach the girl. He winced as it sank its teeth into his right arm. Cursing, he rammed both swords into its chest and shoved it away from him with his foot. The monster keeled over, gurgled momentarily, and then was still.

Edge stared at it, breathing heavily for a few seconds before relaxing and turning to the girl.

“This ain’t a good place for you to be, you know,” he said, flicking the blood off his weapons and then wiping them on his pants. “You were almost a snack for that thing. That would’ve been a damn waste.”

Namine ignored most of what he said, catching bits and pieces before standing up quickly, though on wobbly legs and inspecting his arm.

"I-I'm so sorry I didn't mean for you to get hurt, oh god." Namine looked more than ready to cry again. "I'm so sorry! I just got lost and I didn't know what to do and I saw monsters - I haven't seen them since Castle Oblivion --" She stops her rambling and then just began to cry.

Later, she would apologize for this to. (Just as a warning.)

Edge stood there feeling more than a little uncomfortable. He couldn’t handle it when people cried. It was even worse when chicks started doing it. Here was a young girl who was obviously scared out of her mind and needed comforting of some kind. If she were a little bit older, he could comfort her the only way he knew how. But she was just a kid. What was he supposed to say? What was he supposed to do?

Damn.

“Hey now,” he said softly, reaching out with his good arm and patting her on the head awkwardly. “Everybody screws up sometimes. I know I do. Just ah, don’t worry about it.”

"Are you going to be ok?" She sniffled, looking up at him with innocent, scared eyes. At least she was a little less freaked now, he seemed nice, if awkward. Namine could recognize that he was trying his best.

"I-I'm Namine ..." She wipes her tears away and tries to give a wobbly, more self assured smile.

"That's a pretty name. I'm Edge," he replied with one of his trademark grins, scratching the back of his neck briefly. He glanced down at his arm and shrugged. "What, this? I've had worse. Heh. Doesn't even hurt." ...That much. It did a little bit, no doubt about that. But he could ignore it for now.

"Why don't I walk you back to your quad. You don't need to be hanging around a place like this."

Namine was smart enough to realize she couldn't get back without help, so she nodded.

"I like your name too," She said and couldn't but feel her conversation skills should have been a bit better in this situation. She was ready to leave when suddenly something crossed her mind and she looked around.

"... My sketchpad!" She suddenly cried and looked ready to cry again, "I lost it in here!"

Well, crap. That was his cue to go and look for it then.

"Leave it to me. I'll find it in no time," he said with a wink. Now, where would it be? He didn't know, but he walked around the place, keeping an eye out for it, but also keeping her in his sights just in case. "Where's the last place you had it, kiddo?" he asked loudly, poking through some foliage with one of his swords.

"I had it when I came inside ..." she whispered to herself, trying to think. "I might have dropped it near the middle near that one tree." But she knew that wasn't going to help him at all.

"Could we try this way?" She suggested delicately, it was kind enough of him to save her and help her look for her notebook, she did not want it to seem like she was ordering him around.

Namine was still, she refused to even move without Edge near.

Edge shrugged. At least she wasn't crying anymore, which was a good thing. It helped him relax, that's for damn sure. Glancing over at her, he couldn't help raising an eyebrow. Poor kid was all tensed up.

"Relax, fair Princess. Nothing's gonna happen to you while I'm around," he reassured her with a dramatic wave of his arm.

Taking her suggestion to heart, he wandered over in the direction she pointed out, scanning the ground for anything that might look like her sketchpad. He approached the tree she was talking about and walked around it, still searching.

"Oh hey." He bent down and picked up something. "Is this it?" He had a flat sketchpad in his hand, which he waved at her.

Oh, she couldn't stay as tense as she was when he said things like that. He really was a nice guy, but she was tempted to tell him that she was certainly no princess. In the storybook tales, she was the evil if acceptable looking witch.

Namine followed him quietly and when he found her sketchpad her eyes lit up like Christmas.

"It is!" She cried and took it from him carefully, hugging it to her chest. "Th-Thank you so much! I don't know what I would do without it."

Likely go crazy.

"No problem," he said, smirking a little. Man, that sketchpad thing really made her happy. Ah well, he couldn't say anything negative about it- shiny things had the same effect on him after all.

"Try not to get into too much trouble, pretty girl. Otherwise I'm gonna have to come and rescue you again," he told her with a another wink.

XD Yes. Just yes.

Namine could not help but blush a little and she nodded. She was horribly tempted to say that she would not mind being rescued by him again, but ... She was not entirely sure why she wanted to say something like that.

"I will be more careful, I promise." Namine bit her lip and looked down for a moment, trying to think of how to get the words out.

"I-If you need anything, please let me now?" Well. That was close enough.

Bridget had finished studying while the weather was still sunny and bright and almost enviable with how happy it seemed. After finishing his homework for the day and deciding that anything related to science was the devil, Bridget had decided to check out the training room.

It was funny how he'd always passed by it but never really gone inside. It was mostly because if Xianghua ever found out, she'd probably come and drag him out. But she was busy, and not here to stop him!

So Bridget had gone inside, and he was happily bashing monsters left and right. It was nice to finally work up a sweat after all that studying! Plus it'd been a while since he'd really gotten into a good fight.
