Who: Phoenix & Rinoa
What: Phoenix and Rinoa have a late-night date and talk as everything gets back to normal
When: After their brief conversation.
Where: Phoenix's quad and then somewhere...
Warnings: Sad times, cuteness, more to come?

"Mm, I'll be back later." Rinoa knelt down to give Angelo and Vesna one final pat before she left the quad. If she wasn't holed up in her quad room, she was trying to busy herself at the Royale. She hadn't really gone anywhere except to pick up food, if necessary.

"Ha, Pearls is much more logical than me," she commented as she walked along, running a hand through her hair. "What do I say..."

The singer was glad to have her Phoenix back, but she had believed so much that the other one was him — she was still in a bit of doubt.

She walked up to his quad and knocked on the door, remembering to not be too firm since it was pretty late.

He ran his hands through his hair, curling his fingers against his scalp, eyes closed tightly. The lawyer had been sitting on his bed ever since he spoke to his girlfriend and apparent former-wife, not that he really recalled ever marrying her. And he wasn’t really entirely certain that of all the people he’d met, he would want to marry Dahlia Hawthorne. There were things about her that were nice, sure, but she didn’t really strike him as the marrying type. Clearing that from his mind though, he sighed deeply, one of many that he’d let pass his lips that night. He wasn’t all that sure how many times he’d sighed already and how many more he would.

Letting his hands fall from his hair, he felt them hit both knees, instantly curling his hands into fists once they landed against his slacks. Keeping his eyes shut, he simply waited. What the hell was going on a date going to do to fix everything that had happened? He wasn’t even all that sure how it happened, or why – or what it might have meant. He didn’t have feelings for Dahlia. Apparently when he was dating her, he never did either. He had them for Iris, unbeknownst to him, of course.

Phoenix sighed again, by then having lost count of how many times he’d done such in the time span of his finished conversation with Rinoa and the sound of her knocking on the door. He pressed the heels of his palms against his eyes for a moment, taking a second to stop himself from breaking down. Getting up from the bed, he moved to the bedroom door and wandered out into the common area where he stopped at the door. Taking a breath, he turned the knob and opened the door.

“Hey,” he smiled; at least, he did his best to smile. “Um, come in.” He stepped aside for her to do so, supposing she wanted to and not just punch him – which, he supposed, he would be alright with since he did kind of deserve it.

She had taken a few steps away from the door to just breathe. Calm her nerves down. Push down the temptation to punch the lawyer in the face. He didn't deserve it at all, and she'd be damned if she hurt him for no apparent reason.

Rinoa adjusted her cardigan and pushed the sleeves up her arms, hooking her thumbs in the pockets of her jeans as she turned and heard the door open. For a moment, she was remembering the other version of Phoenix that had been present and was about to walk off in frustration, but she knew it wasn't him.

Calm down, Heartilly. Don't get riled up.

"Hi," she returned the smile - lighthearted, but one could possibly see the stress hidden behind it. "Sure, thanks." She walked up and past Phoenix, momentarily thinking about instead just stopping and hugging him, but the tension in the air made her hold off on doing so. She turned once she was inside a few feet and shrugged lightly, "So. How are you?"
