His fingers on her white thighs, and then between them, slipping against her; she'd lay fair money he didn't have much idea of what he was doing, and it didn't even matter. Instinct didn't fail him.

When he shivered against her, hard and convulsive like a startled animal, she tightened her grip and whispered, "harder," just to remind him who he was dealing with, a snarl lurking beneath the words. But when his finger slid into her--slick muscle, clenching, her hips bucking into his hand--the sound she made was a ragged whimper, and then his name, again and again.

She kissed his mouth, his throat, the soft vulnerable skin beneath his ear; he buried his head in her shoulder like a child--odd thought to have now, Cesia--desperate for comfort. Her ribs might have creaked under his grip.

He whispered her name, again and again, and she held on, his fingers working surer and surer against her. It was either the lightning-sharp rush of power or simply her own blood rushing in her ears, only his voice cutting through it.

Her fingers curled in his hair; he reared back to look into her face, pupils blown wide open, and she took in a shuddering breath, arching off the wall, lace an unbearable rasp against suddenly hyper-sensitive skin.

His muscles moved smoothly under skin as her hands curled over his shoulders, almost holding her up, leaning his weight into her body. He looks at her like she's an anchor, and there's something not quite mortal--and beyond demonic--in his eyes.

"Cesia," he said, and his voice was a ragged whisper.

As his fingers curled just right and her world came apart, her head fell back and her eyes rolled, unable to keep meeting his eyes. But the name she cried out was his, and he leaned his head into her neck again and let her hold on for both of them.

Dragon Knights Rath/Cesia preposterous

Raseleane had, with utmost delicacy, inquired as to Cesia's state of mind concerning Rath, with a few equally delicate insinuations.

Cesia, tripping over her tongue, but not been as restrained as usual. "That's ridiculous," she had snapped, though she managed to refrain from pointing out how many times he'd nearly killed her. Raseleane had smiled her mysterious smile all through the younger girl's protests, and then politely changed the subject.

Cesia had altogether too much survival instinct to regard Rath in any such way. She refused to give ground, and that was the extent of her intentions.

At night, in bed, was a different story entirely. She dreamed she was in her bed, pushing sweat soaked hair back from her forehead, heart pounding against her ribs, and Rath's face appeared above her, upside down, grinning with as many disquietingly wild, sharp edges as ever. "Bad dreams?" He asked.

And because this was a dream, she could nod and reach for him, and he would lean down, climbing over the head of the bed in only a loose pair of pants. And his skin would be warm, and close, and he wouldn't flinch at her touch--definitely wouldn't pull a blade on her--and when he settled down above her, hips and belly together, legs tangled, he got that look of sleepy satisfaction she'd seen on him sometimes after a good meal, or a good kill.

And he wouldn't mind if she just held on, and he would know how much she just needed a little contact, and when she kissed him--

Kissing Rath was a mystery she dwelt on occasionally and then abandoned in despair at her own too fertile imagination, a minefield she didn't tread for wariness of her own reaction. She didn't know if he'd practice the cool, calculated finesse he had shown himself capable of, or the rough hot impulse-driven desires he showed more often. She thought he'd turn his razor-sharp focus to this as much as he did battle, and the mere thought made her stomach clench.

The dream usually devolved into snippets of sensation tossed up by an overheated mind; a lean frame, scars under her fingers, his bright fascinated eyes, the hard curve of her hipbones and the thick hot slide of--

And then she'd wake up, twisting in the sheets, abrupt and frustrated and gasping into the dark.

"Ridiculous," she'd mutter, burying her face in the pillow.

It rarely did her any good at all.
