The Bridge. Despite it's unusual location and beginnings, it was a club like any other club. Bouncers looked after each tower entrance, patrons came, packed the dance floor, drank the booze the bar provided, and went on their merry little way. But for Isaac and his kind, the Bridge served a more much necessary purpose: Blood. Some was kept on reserve at the bar, but who ever liked a cold meal? The Gifted that frequented the club were sought after by every vampire, but of course as per Isaac's rules, offering up their blood was always voluntary. Isaac, however, had yet to find anyone and favored a glass of whisky that evening while listening to some girl practically tell her life story to him as Kerry's band played on the stage.
Irene was enjoying the night off of her quickly growing duties as Second-in-command. It was a great opportunity for her to meet people and make connections across territories and within her own as well. Beyond that, she was just having a great time. The music brought her back to a golden age of laughter and dance parties and so far everyone who had approached her had been nothing but friendly and welcoming. She spied Isaac looking bored to bits by some girl that Irene only vaguely recognized and it made her grin her amusement. Meanwhile she let him suffer a bit longer as she lifted herself from her couch and helped herself to the bar to freshen up her drink. She knew Deirdre was around but she had insisted that her new guard go enjoy herself and so Irene didn't know where she was at the moment. She just hoped the human woman was enjoying herself as well. All work and no play was not something that Irene advocated.
Amelia sat in the middle of the bar, finishing her first glass of the club's finest reserve blood, she signaled for another as she finished. As she waited for her drink the music allowed her to relax, but she kept her eyes moving, observing the room...She knew a few of the faces around, but only through trade/business. She watched Irene Putman approach the bar, but avoided making eye contact. Amelia knew the more prominent members of the territories, but didn't know them personally...she just did her trades and kept her head down. Amelia wasn't even sure what she was doing in the public bar...she made no use of the Gifted that offered themselves up...she barely spoke to anyone...but yet she had been compelled to sit in the center of the bar. Her drink was set in front of her, and she decided it would be better to stare at it instead of the others at the bar.
Kerry was enjoying her second night on stage with the small jazz band she had helped get together. They'd been practicing a lot since their last show and this time there were no sick vocalists so Kerry got to be back behind her piano where she belonged. She had a smile on her face as she played though, wild red hair pulled back so it wouldn't get into her face while she is trying to keep up with cues from her band mates. They practiced specific songs but they also improvised quite a bit as well and so it was important that she keep up. Luckily the music itself was loud enough there on stage that it drowned out a lot of the other noises that would be distracting her. The constant murmur of the crowd was just a pleasant buzz at her peripheral while the music itself left much more prominent visual stimulus for her synesthesia. She was very aware of Isaac actually being present for the performance this time and that made her excited of course. She hoped he was enjoying the show just as she hoped the rest of the crowd was as well.
Sean was never one to let his infirmary get in the way of his life. Having dealt with the limp in his leg all throughout high school, the red headed young man knew how to get around the obstacles it produced. Since Kerry was playing that evening, the psychic went and dolled himself up—or as much as he was able—in simple pastel green eyeshadow, his usual clear lipgloss, and a matching green dress shirt (untucked) that he spruced up with a white tie and black jeans. He laughed as he hobbled around Daniel a bit awkwardly before green eyes checked the entranced to Holt Tower once again to see if Deirdre was there, yet. Ever since they'd talked at the bookstore, the redhead wondered if they'd ever run into each other here at the club.
Daniel didn't often come to the bridge unless he had to find Sean or Mr. Holt and it couldn't wait. The shy dreamwalker was uncomfortable with crowds, especially with crowds that tended to be heavy with vampires. He knew how potent his blood smelled despite the fact that he hid himself under the hood of his sweatshirt to try and mask his scent as much as possible. The only comforting thought was knowing that both Sean and Isaac were present and would certainly run interference if a vampire decided to go for it. It was common knowledge in the tower that Daniel was fed from only the territory leader but there were constant new faces on The Bridge and strangers could never be predictable. He was there now because Sean had managed to coax him out and part of him was glad to be out of the apartment but the other part was still taking some time to get used to the crowd. He stayed close to Sean for now, his arm looped with Sean's free one. He stayed close partially for his own comfort but also for Sean's. His boyfriend's psychic abilities sometimes made him uncomfortable in crowds simply from all the feedback but Daniel knew he was a sort of dampening field for that so it would help them both to stay close.
Deirdre was in her element. This was how she spent the majority of her downtime before the collapse – and what time she had free since then. And tonight her new boss had explicitly told her to come, and to have a good time. If she was a proper, professional young woman, then she probably should be sitting at the bar politely sipping a non-alcoholic drink… Of course if she was a proper professional young woman, she wouldn’t be wearing such a short skirt or dancing heels. And truth be told, Deirdre wasn’t sure what she was drinking; she’d let someone pretty buy it for her. It had a reasonable kick, but tasted a little too sweet. At least that made it easy to drink. She was enjoying the live music, although jazz tended to make her think of other activities, but for now the vertical equivalent would do. This was a new venue for her, but she felt obligated to learn about the local club since she was working for Irene now – and well, she had been invited by a cute red-headed bookshop boy before.
Irene ordered herself another glass of wine and sat quietly at the bar watching the band as she waited for it to be delivered. When the glass was set by her she turned again to politely thank the bartender. It was then that another of the patrons sitting at the bar caught her attention. She didn't recognize the woman really, at least, not specifically and Irene didn't know what compelled her to go over but soon she was settling in a seat next to Amelia. "Are you enjoying the music?" She asked, a friendly smile on her face. The other vampire looked almost sad and Irene didn't know if she could stand someone being sad at a party. She had to at least offer a friendly word.
The woman's voice surprised Amelia, but she managed to appear as if though she was calm, collected......taking a sip of her blood, she said "Yes...I do enjoy it" but didn't look at the other right away. She took another long drink before she made eye contact, "I...do not think we have met...I am Amelia...you are..Irene, right?" she extended her hand, her business savvy taking over when her social skills took to the hills.
When he couldn't stand it anymore, Isaac grabbed the next vampire that was familiar to him as they passed. Easily sliding an arm around the vampire's shoulders, a smile spread across Isaac's lips as he guided his subordinate into an introduction, "Tor, om du går med på detta, jag är skyldig dig en." Tor, if you go along with this, I'll owe you one. Isaac's smile grew as he introduced his underling to the woman and politely excused himself. Polishing off the last of the whisky, he caught the bartenders attention to get a refill and then unfolded his tall frame from the barstool. Running a hand through long blonde locks, Isaac then tugged at the black t-shirt he wore on his lanky frame while threading his way through the crowd before arriving at the end of the bar. He had given Irene a nod in passing, but one he was seated at the end, the Territory Leader's attention was devoted solely to listening to Kerry and her band play as he had missed her last performance through no fault of his own.
"Yes, Irene." She nodded, taking Amelia's hand in a friendly shake. "I'm afraid everyone has me at a disadvantage nowadays." She chuckled, dark eyes sparkling with the merriment that Irene normally felt. "Everyone knows me but I'm still trying to learn who everyone else is. Are you from territory 30?"
Sean finally spotted Deirdre in the crowd, briefly wondering how he'd missed her, and let out an excited squeal of joy. He let go of Daniel briefly to excitedly hop up and down and wave, trying to catch the patrol woman's attention while shouting, "Deirdre! Hey, Deirdre!" The psychic then grinned at Daniel, looping his arms through the dreamwalkers once again, "Come on, I want to introduce you. It's that woman I told you about."
"Actually, I live in territory 21..." she took another sip, "I like to try and get out every now and then..." she didn't mind Irene...like most of those she encountered in her dealings, she had those she tolerated...which as close as she could get to liking a person..."I don't get out much."
Deirdre broke out into an immediate wide grin when she noticed Sean, and swayed her way over to him in time with the music. “I had just been thinking about a hot red-head. Should I be flattered you were talking about me?” She passed her smile from Sean to the young man with him. She had vaguely hoped she’d run into Sean here – he had been the one to first encourage her to come by. And she’d name-dropped him on the way in just because she could, even though she suspected working for Irene was enough name-dropping to get her past even the strictest bouncer. She wasn’t sure she wanted to be known as a guard tonight, when she was half into her cups and hoping to get further…
Kerry only had two more songs left in their set and then they were done for the night. It was about time because they'd been playing for over an hour already and the lights on stage were making her sweat more than was probably attractive. Still, despite the discomfort she could never give up the thrill of being on stage and the love she had for playing her music. It was probably close to twenty minutes later that they finished with a flair and the 6 man band rose to bow to the audience. Kerry caught Isaac's eye and a small thrill went up her spine in a totally embarrassing way. She tossed him a grin and a wink, gave one more bow and then filed off stage with the rest of her crew. Now all she needed was a cold drink.
Daniel of course followed Sean. It would be hard to convince him to go off on his own if the moment did arise but he hoped it wouldn't. Daniel would rather be home alone than in a big crowd alone and that was probably fairly obvious with how he rarely made eye contact with those around him. He always automatically hid his face behind a wave of long dark hair but Sean had insisted that he weave it into a side braid over his left shoulder and so he only had his hood to hide in. Still, when Sean dragged him to the woman Daniel mustered a polite smile and a quiet, "hello..." He wasn't trying to be rude, he was just terribly awkward with strangers. The polar opposite of Sean."Of course you should be flattered!" Said Sean with a grin of own and threw his arms around the woman in a hug that probably went beyond personal boundaries but the red-head really was unware. Unlike his counterpart, Daniel, Sean liked being around people despite the downside of his Gift. He just did not like big crowds such as this, which is why he did not stray far from the other boy. Releasing Deirdre, Sean turned back to Daniel, placing a hand on his shoulder and introducing him, "Dierdre, this is Daniel. Daniel, Deirdre." His hand then slid down the dreamwalker's arm until he could lace his fingers with Daniel's.
"I guess I can't blame you. I just traveled across country a few times and I know for a fact it's tough to get around out there and not very nice once you do. We have it pretty lucky here, but I almost don't want to go out either." She laughed, sipping her wine.
Isaac had enjoyed the music Kerry and her band played, applauding with a smile on his face when they wrapped their set and waving at the attractive redhead when he caught the grin and wink sent in his direction. A soft chuckle escaped the vampire at that and his own gaze dropped briefly to the crowd before lifting in time to see Kerry leave the stage. A hand was raised to wave her over and, figuring it would be a moment or two before she could reach the bar, Isaac turned to catch the bartenders attention once again. Having been under the glaring lights of lecture halls, he knew that a cold drink would be much appreciated and ordered a glass of ice water for the woman.
"Glad that you understand..." Amelia reached her glass out, as if to toast, "To those days when you can just stay in...and be yourself.."
Deirdre returned the hug enthusiastically – not at all bothered by any possible boundary issues. Physicality was something she enjoyed. Although she did make note of the laced fingers. She should’ve figured he was gay. Her smile for Daniel was warm too. “Nice to meet you Daniel.” Obviously he must be something special. Then to both boys, she added (body still moving in time to the music, even after it ended), “Enjoying yourselves tonight?”
Daniel was quiet as he let Sean take the lead in most all conversations although he did offer the woman a polite, "Nice to meet you too." in return to her greeting. Daniel wasn't actually sure if he was enjoying himself yet but he wasn't about to be a downer and say as much. He wondered suddenly if Pre-Collapse drinking ages were still upheld here in the tower or if he could get a drink. Maybe some alcohol would help calm him.Sean glanced fondly at Daniel and nodded, "Yeah, we have." He expression turned mischievious as the psychic then leaned into the dreamwalker, nudging the boy playfully in the ribs as he teased, "Well, maybe I have more than Daniel."
Kerry just took a moment backstage to dab at her brow and neck with a clean towel and she offered to help get all the gear but was told it was all being handled and that she should go have some fun. So, who was she to say no? So she made her way out to where she had seen Isaac wave her over, butterflies appearing in her stomach whenever she got anywhere near him but she was getting better about not letting that show. Actually, the more she got to know him the more comfortable she felt in general. Which was a relief because she knew he probably wasn't fooled at all by the pounding of her idiot heart.
"Here, here!" Irene smiled, clinking her glass against Amelia's in acceptance of that toast, "Also, to bubble baths. I missed them a hell of a lot." The vampire joked, sipping her wine again after the toast.
Amelia smiled, nodding at Irene before polishing off her drink, "I work in trades you know...hate to talk work...but...I wanted to mention it...if you ever need anything" she pulled a card as if from the air. "I can supply most things...should you need it...I appreciate your kindness"
Just as Kerry reached him, Isaac lifted the glass of water from the counter—still chilled—and held it out for her and said, "After all that work up there, I thought you'd might like something cold to drink." He said with a smile and then pushed a lock of hair behind his ear, "I'm glad I was about to hear you play today, your set was very enjoyable. Very well played, madame." He said with a soft chuckle while he raised his glass to hers. Kerry's nervous heartbeat would have been drowned out by all the other noise that assailed Isaac's ears in the dim and enclosed space. The vampire would have had to concentrate a little to single out the sound if he had wanted to, but the times the two were alone... Well, he was used to humans being nervous around The Territory Leader and Isaac had thought just that of Kerry. The woman put up a good front, however, and he uncharacteristically admired that of her despite the woman being human. Of course, there had been that tongue lashing he'd gotten from her weeks and weeks ago that had put him in his place.
A rare smile crossed Daniel's features at Sean's teasing and he twisted momentarily away from that nudging, "Sounds like us." He teased back and then, finally mustering up the nerve to go off on his own briefly he said to Sean, "I'm going to get a drink, do you want one?""Oh my God, you are a life saver." She declared at the sight of a fresh glass of ice water being offered to her. She took a big swallow and then pressed the glass against her neck at the back of her jawline with a breath of relief. "I'm really glad you liked the show." She said, "And I'm sorry, I must look a mess right now." She laughed, taking the glass from her neck again to find a seat on the stool right there.
For a second, Sean's heart jumped into his throat at the idea of Daniel leaving him alone in a room full of psychic energy bouncing off the walls, but he steeled himself. Hell, the redhead had been coping without the dreamwalker years before, he could handled a few minutes without him. He giggled with boy as Daniel teased back and nodded, "Sure. I'll drink whatever you're having." Once they parted ways, Sean's attention shifted back to Deirdre and he playfully nudged her, too, "Sooo, I hear you're all VIP now!" Just then, music started back up again now that the stage had been cleared of instruments and Sean joined Deirdre in dancing.
"Trades, huh?" She asked with mild interest as she took the card that was offered to her and glanced over it's contents. She already knew of one very reliable scavenger who had, so far, been able to get her everything she'd needed but it would be nice to have options. "Thank you, I'll keep that in mind." She smiled and then, tucking the card away she finished her wine and rose from her seat. "I think I'm going to do a bit of dancing before my feet start hurting too much. It was nice meeting you, Amelia."
Deirdre couldn’t help herself from dancing – it was better with someone to dance with her. “VIP? Hardly. I did seem to stumble into a promotion somehow. I’m still half-expecting it to get sent back down to basic Patrol, if I’m totally honest.” Deirdre shrugged. She was dancing, not dwelling on the sense of fraud she felt for getting promoted. Much better to focus on Sean and his boy. “So how long you been with your hottie?”
Amelia nodded, "Likewise..." she turned back to the barkeep, signalling for more blood. She was not a dancer, but she was tired of sitting in the same spot. When her drink was replenished, she took a hearty drink...every now and then she felt the longing for company stir...and she wished she could drink to just ignore the feeling.
Ciarán was not really one for clubs. He much preferred bars or pubs where you could actually hear people better and talk to them. Of course, with his Lycan hearing that was never really a problem for the former boxer who, as soon as Irene vacated her spot at the bar, Ciarán seemed to fill. He had left behind his packmates who had gotten themselves embroiled with vampires much to his amusement so he went to get himself a glass or three of whisky. So, it was with raised hand that he flagged down the bartender, "Oi, barkeep! A glass of yer finest whiskey, if ya please!" He called out with a grin because they both knew that the whiskey was shite.
Amelia heard "oi!" to her side...she looked and saw a man about her height waving down the bartender...whiskey..."did everyone drink in this town?" she muttered, not realizing she spoke aloud.
"Not at all," said Isaac to Kerry with a shake of his head and took a sip of the drink in his hand. He had just been thinking that the redhead was quite attractive... for a human, of course. Well, if Isaac was going to be really honest with himself, Kerry was more than just attractive. Having observed her in the weeks since their initial meeting months ago, Kerry had a knack for brightening up a room along with the smile that she frequently had on her face. She interacted with and took care of those in her charge well and during their own interactions, the vampire found her oddly... charming. Isaac liked Kerry, which could be potentially dangerous for the both of them if this... fondness went any further. Yet, that didn't seem to stop him from asking the woman, "Are you up for a dance?" When the music slowed.
An incredulous brow arched as Sean's light teasing got shot down, "What? Come on, Dee, you're Irene's personal guard for pete sake. It can't get much more VIP than that unless Isaac decided he could use you!" The psychic said with a laugh before his face became flushed with color at the woman's question and he was suddenly tongue-tied, "Well, um... N-Not very long. I-I mean, not like that, but um... We've been friends for a while." Sean had the goofiest grin on his face as he talked about Daniel.
Kerry took a last long swallow from her refreshing glass of water before leaving it on the bar. "I would be delighted." She told him with a bright smile, stepping down from the tall stool she had situated herself on and looping her arm through his, "Lead the way, sir." She said with a playful smile, her heart fluttering a bit at the thought of dancing with the handsome vampire. Once again she felt lucky that Isaac's voice made such an impression on her abilities. The visual manifestation of his words made it easy for her to focus on what he was saying over the loud music and the rest of the crowd.
Deirdre smiled at Sean’s arched brow. Isaac, Mr. Holt, wasn’t likely to know who she was – okay well maybe he might now since she was working for Irene… But in general, the likelihood of working for the Territory leader was about as likely as… working for his second… Deirdre’s logic was clearly failing her. Since she was in fact working for Irene. Fortunately, Sean’s flush was more than enough to distract her (and him, thankfully) from her own moment of self-effacement. “Ahh.” She made a noise of understanding. “Not a bad way to start, as friends.” She’d started as friends with… she wasn’t thinking about the dead. She was thinking about Sean. “Does he get that look when he talks about you too?” It was beyond cute, really.
Ciarán's sensitive hearing caught the vampire's words and his attention shifted to Amelia. His grin widened and the Lycan chuckled as he leaned against counter and waited for his drink, "Well, tat's sort of what ya do in a club, isn't it?" He said after a bit of a pause and added, "Well, besides acting the complete fool and dancing." The werewolf, who could footwork with the best of them in the boxing ring, could not dance even if he life depended on it. His attention—and his nose—was caught by the glass of dark liquid in front of Amelia as someone passed them, "Although, should ya really be askin' tat question, darlin'? Seein' as yer having a drink yerself."
Amelia chuckled, "Not quite the same" she polishes off her glass, "I haven't had a sip of the grain since i was 300" she waves the barkeep down, pulling a beautiful necklace from her chest, "this is for you love, just you, no need to share with the others" she returns her gaze to the wolf, "Can't be letting my guard down...now can I?"
Suffice it to say, Isaac was just a tiny bit surprised that his dance invitation had been accepted and there was a quick, terrifying moment for the vampire where he wondered what he was supposed to do next. Well, it was quite obvious, of course, dance with the woman as she slipped her arm through his. The only sign that he was briefly uncomfortable with the small clearing of his throat before Isaac lead Kerry onto the dance floor, taking her hand and placing his own at her waist like a gentleman. The Territory Leader certainly didn't engage in the kind of movement that people had the audacity to call dancing these days. Then again, Isaac hadn't approved of what was considered dancing since the 1950s, much to the amusement of his Maker, Diego. Thoughts of the older vampire were shoved aside to be pondered over later as he admitted to Kerry, "I don't get to do this much," he said with a small smile.
