Goals for 2014 + Stuff In Progress [1/1/2014, 12:21pm]

Time for Erin to be Perfectly Honest. From the start I've always warned people that PoP was not a fast-moving game and that's true in more ways than one. Be that as it may, you've all blown my mind this past year. Populous Postea was officially re-opened as a public game in June of 2013 and we've made it into 2014 with minimal hiccups. Most importantly, though, the game is still alive coming into 2014 because of all of us and our desire to keep going. You have no idea how much that has blown my mind and how happy that has made me and Lindsey. However, there are some goals I'd like to aim for that includes us Mods as well as Players:
The Mods
  1. Consistent Promotion— Lins and I had already begun discussing this back in late 2013 and now that the holidays are winding down, we'll be working on promoting the game more to get new blood in.
  2. Being more consistent in our duties as Mods— This will include posting regular Activity Checks and Writing Prompts and following through with the consequences if there are any.
The Players
  1. More use of the OOC comm— This is something I'd personally like to see and hasn't been discussed with Lins. I looked back through the OOC comm and saw a lot of Mod announcements and not a whole lot of Player generated posts. Things I'd like to see posted more in the OOC:
    • Wanted Storylines/Ideas— The whole thing doesn't have to be plotted out on the comm, but I would like to see more, "Hey, I've got this story idea for So-And-So and So-And-So where they Discover This." The Player this is tossed to then has the opportunity to comment and say, "Yeah, this is a great idea! Let's talk on AIM/Email/etc."
    • More Chit-Chat— I will not mind in the least if you all post random chit-chatty posts. In fact, I strongly encourage it for our friends that don't use AIM very often. It'll let them—and everyone—know that the community is active both IC and OOC.
  2. More use of the PoP Chatzy room— This is more of a request out of laziness than anything, but I'd like to know that people are using the Chatzy room because I'm getting tired of having to make a new room every 14 days. XD If you want to do a scene there with 3+ characters, great! I would love it if you did, just remember that someone will have to actively log the scene since the room is not Premium. You don't even need to do a scene to use the room. If you simply want to shoot the shit with more than one player at a time, then by all means, please use the room! (^^)
Everyone here has been absolutely great in tossing out scene/story ideas, and have given us very good constructive criticism when we've asked for feedback on ideas we've presented to the group or changes we wanted to make. That is something we hope to continue seeing in the new year! :)

Alrighty, so the consensus regarding the new activity seems to be to try it out so that's what we'll be doing. The rules have been updated to reflect this and, for the time being, we'll be trying out this new way. With that said, it's important to note a few things:
  • Please make sure you're using the status tags in your scenes on [info]populouspostea  . This is how Lins and I are going to monitor activity in the IC comm as well as looking at personal journals for updates and prompt activity.
  • Activity Checks will be done in the OOC comm and will simply list the characters that need to update.
  • To help everyone stay active, we'll also start to post writing and development prompts in the OOC that can be posted to your character's journal. Examples will be provided soon to give you an idea of what a prompt may entail.

Dropping Characters

I've barely played Vincent--if I've played him at all--since reopening in June, I will be dropping the character, but leave him open for someone else to pick up if they want to. So, for the time being, please make sure to click the button below to remove my version of Vincent from your friends list.

Anyone that wants to play Vincent can contact me and I can give you the highlights of his relationship with Elijah and Elizabeth. I had considered just killing the character off, but I think Eli thus far has experienced more than enough torment. XD

Other Stuff

Pages such as the Holds have been updated (image and text) along with the app and requests (the FZ leader has been taken down). I will be creating a very simple, cross-browser compatible app for people to use for new characters (no you won't have to update to it with current characters unless you want to). It just personally bothers me that the current app doesn't look the same in both Chrome and Firefox so I'm going to work to change that. In all, everyone might want to skim through the main pages to see if anything else has been updated/changed.

... But of course it inevitably comes with some bugs and kinks to work out. If you find that you encounter an issue, please let Squeaky know by commenting on the front page, Facebook, or Twitter. Be as detailed as possible so that Squeaky can get the situation sorted as quick as he can.

If you're using an S1 Style layout and find that it looks like (colors are missing or areas/sections you know aren't supposed to have white coloring...), this can be fixed on your own! Huzzah! Simply...
  1. Go to Customize Journal > Look and Feel
  2. Scroll to the Custom Colors section
  3. Re-insert your colors
  4. Save & voila!
Didn't work? Well, you'll probably need to bring the layout issue up to Squeaky.

Chatzy Event: A Night at the Bridge [9/10/2013, 8:16pm]

Thank you for your replies, everyone! Based on the comments posted and the circumstances of a new player, I put in the final "vote" as it were and chose option #3: A Night at the Bridge. With this option, new ideas don't need to be thrown into the Mission story and potentially mess with continuity, etc. Additionally, Lici, you'll be able to start from scratch and not have to worry about what happened previously and whatnot. I'm really excited about this and can't wait to see you all tomorrow at 8 or 8:30 when things officially begin! (^_^)

First of all, I am just as guilty as everyone else, so if you feel bad about what is going to be said below — don't. I will be making a concerted effort to do better as well. Be that as it may...

As part of the rules, it is required that players make at least one journal update for a character. This counts toward your activity. I can't count your character as fully active unless I can check off that they've done at least one journal update and participated in at least one thread. To help with this, I've updated the rules to add an addendum to activity requirements. Please make sure you familiarize yourself with the new addition. Which brings me to my next point.

Formally Accepted Characters
As of 9/8/13 Amelia Major and Cecily Pardee are formally accepted characters to Populous Postea. Make sure you've accepted ALL asylum invitations sent to you. With the acceptance of Amelia, we also have a new player so Lici, when you can get a chance, please introduce yourself in the OOC comm. Amelia and Cecily, you have until 9/15/13 to introduce your characters on their journals. Please make sure that you all update your friends lists.

Chatzy Event
Even with the slight hiccup of the event not getting completely logged as expected, it went rather well and everyone involved had a lot of fun. We'll be holding another event this Wednesday, September 11th at 8pm EST, but the event won't officially kick-off until 8:30pm EST. Since we have a new player and someone of us won't be able to make it right at the start, I'll post some event choices and rehash how game-play works. If you cannot make the event at all, please comment and let me know.

Event Choice #1 — Continuing the Mission
At some point the idea of continuing this scene was thrown around so I am giving current participants the choice to continue where it left off with the possibility of introducing Amelia Major if Lici wants to throw her in.

Event Choice #2 — Market Day
As a refresher, Market Day is open to all three Territories and is a day where everyone does trading with everyone and not just within their own Territory. It gives characters the chance to interact with each other that normally wouldn't get that chance. IC, the point of Market Day is to do widespread trading. People are trading, entertainers are entertaining, news and gossip gets spread, and new connections are formed.

Event Choice #3 — A Night at the Bridge
The Bridge is open to all three Territories and anyone may come and enjoy themselves. Operated just like any typical club, booze is served, music is provided, and there is dancing. However, the primary service the Bridge provides is a safe environment for Vampires to obtain their meals and ensures that Gifted donors are not taken advantage of as per Isaac's rules.

How to RP for Chatzy Events
  1. First, clicking this link will provide you with the necessary log-in information.
  2. You'll be asked to provide a name and a password. Please input both, but do not choose the Red font color option. This is reserved for the Mods and NPCs.
  3. When RPing, please type /me at the beginning of your line and continue as normal. This will colorize your text and differentiate your character from the others and also helps with editing later on.
  4. Things to keep in mind: The room is not Premium. This means there are limits on the room so some commands and options will not work or be provided. There is a limit to 10 users in the room at time, so please don't go completely wild with throwing your characters in; The Mods may or may not need slots for NPCs.
  5. Dice rolling may or may not happen in the room, depending on circumstances. The Mod will ask a character or characters to roll a d# (ex. d20) and do this, simply type /rolldie 20 in the chat. Your roll will look something like this: Peggy rolled a die with 20 sides. The die showed: 2. What the number means and is used for is determined by the Mod and assists with the proceedings of the event.
The room is open all the time so feel free to stop in & practice if need be. If you can't do it before the event, please try to get in at 8pm EST so a Mod can help you get acquainted.
Last, but not least, please leave a comment here with your choice of event and whether or not you can make said event. A response is needed no later than 9/10/13 in order to make necessary preparations or, if need be, reschedule.

Hi there! I'm Erin, one of the Mods, and an RPer going on 10 - 15+ years. The staple of my RP experiences lies in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom, but I've branched into DC & Marvel comics, Star Wars, original concepts, and more recently, The Vampire Diaries. I tend to gravitate toward playing angsty, broody males, shy and geeky females, gay, bi, or straight characters. I almost always play OCs unless it be Angel from the Buffyverse, or Raven from the Teen Titans.

Organic to semi-organic storylines are the way to go for me. Sometimes I just need a location, time, and place and I'll be a on a roll. Other times, I may need more nudging in the right direction. When it comes to intimate situations, I'm fine with them as long as it's the right moment and does not go beyond an R rating — anything more will need to FTB. Basically, I can start something of that nature, just not finish it. For other types of scenes, such as combat for example, I'm open to anything as long as it is discussed beforehand and does not result in the death of my character (unless I intend to kill them off lol).

Since a lot of character apps/bios are incomplete, I figured it might be a good idea to just sum them up for the time being to give other players an idea of who I play.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope your weekend was a good one. So there are some updates to note:

MOD JOURNAL
Nearly all pages in the Mod Journal have gotten a facelift with the exception of a few such as the image-heavy Holds page and the image-lite Holds page. A Locations page is being worked on, so if your character owns a "business," safehouse, or other location/place that people stay in, congregate at, or use, please send the Mods a short description of it. It doesn't need to be more than 2 - 3 sentences.

RULES & ACTIVITY
Some minor changes to the rules page (wording and such) to hopefully make a few things clearer. The Behavior & Conduct and Activity section got a major update regarding activity and how we'll be monitoring it. Please make sure you familiarize yourself with the new update and let us know if you have any questions. Between June 15th and June 29th, monitoring of activity has been waived as we get into the swing of things.

CURRENT CHARACTERS
Some players may have noticed on this page that there are a lot of bio or journal links that have been struck out like this. These characters, regardless of the state of their bio's (or lack thereof), have been grandfathered into the game. Why? Well, some of these characters were created and developed during the PSL stage of PoP and didn't have official apps or bios made because of this. Other characters are returning characters from before the PSL stage. Characters that don't have bios or journals will officially get them within a reasonable time-table. The exception to this are the Holds. Current Holds must stick to their designated due dates and rules. Questions? You know what to do! :)

INTRODUCING YOURSELF & CHARACTERS
If you want to introduce yourself in an OOC fashion, that's fine but it's not required and while this isn't in the rules, it's strongly recommended that brief info regarding new characters be introduced here. This will help you get your character known to other players and get them involved in SLs/threads. It is also strongly recommended that your character introduce themselves IC on their journals. This, too, will help them get involved in stuff to do and interact with other characters.

We open on June 15th, 2013
I'm pleased to announce that 99% of the Mod journal is complete enough to my satisfactory that I feel we can start advertising and recruiting. There is more information to add, but some of that information, like locations, will always be sort of a work-in-progress that I'm not worried about it. Other information, while important, is not immediately needed right away and shouldn't be a problem if there is a player who is interested in joining.

Stuff To Add
A Locations Page—This will contain information regarding the various places, buildings, etc. that people either stay in or visit in-game.
Monthly Chatzy Event—The Mods want to hold a monthly in-game event where more than a pairing of characters are involved. Basically, it would be an event that is either plot-oriented, or just something random for many characters to get involved in at once. At the moment, I'm not quite sure how to present this information and what it'll entail fully, but once I do, an update will be posted here.
Free Zones—More information, once it is added, will be found on the Territories page.

WE REOPEN ON JUNE 15TH, 2013!

This is just a progress report of what's going on so far with the Mod Journal and what's on the agenda after today.

What's Been Changed/Re-vamped So Far:
Premise—The premise has been re-worded slightly to better fit other information that is posted.
Applications—The applications themselves have gotten a face lift and, hopefully, is easier to fill out. Examples of each type of application will be added soon.
Holds & Characters—This page has been completely redone. Just one or two more finishing touches and it'll be 100% done. It is now completely finished.
The Territories—Not only did it get a face lift, but the Territories have also been completely re-assigned.

What's Been Added:
Character Masterlist—The list can be found here. This will also be the place to submit holds in the future.
Monthly Chatzy Event—This has not been added, yet, but it will be soon.

What Still Needs Work:
Rules—This needs to be tweaked, edited, re-vamped, etc.
