Who: Megan Jones and Parvati Patil
When: Monday Night
Where: Outside the Gryffindor Common Room
What: Megan has to deliver some very bad news
Rating/Status: Low/Complete

Megan didn't want to be the one to tell Parvati what had happened. But, she figured, if one of her best friends had been kill she wouldn't want to hear it from a Professor. And Gwen didn't exactly know how to be tactful so that left Gwen.

Lingering outside the Gryffindor common room, Megan paced back and forth. She hoped Parvati hadn't gone inside for the night. This was going to be awful. Incredibly awful and Megan wasn't sure she was strong enough to go through it. Finally, Megan spotted the pretty Gryffindor and took a deep breath.

"Parvati?" Megan waited for the girl to approach and offered her a shaky smile. "Can we talk for a moment?"

Parvati had gone to have tea with Professor Trelawney after supper and had conveniently picked up a few books on dreams from the professor's personal library. The castle had been seeing too much blood lately, one had been her own sister. They needed to figure out what was going on, Parvati was sick of it.

She knotted her eyebrows together as she approached the portrait to the Gryffindor tower. "Yes?" What did Megan Jones want with her?

"Um. Is there somewhere quiet we can talk? I think-- I think you're going to want to be somewhere private for this." Oh hell, this wasn't going well at all. Megan spotted a small, unused office across the corridor and nodded towards it. "How about in there?"

Parvati's eyebrows grew closer together as she tucked the books close to her chest. "Sure, this is fine," she agreed slowly, making her way to the small room. What sort of odd conversation was about to ensue? Megan never had much to do with her before, and Parvati hadn't done anything to her.

Megan shut the door and took another deep breath. "I.. I have to tell you something and I really don't want to. I wish it wasn't true, but I wanted you to hear first. No one should find out bad things in the journals." Megan bit down on her lip and wished there was a better way to say this.

"It's about Lavender. She's.. she's..."

What was she saying? There had been a lot of bad things happening lately, and if it were anyone else but Lavender, she would have assumed the worse, but it had to be nothing, right? The poor girl was probably in a bathroom, still crying and fussing over her red hair.

"What about her?" she asked sharply, eyes narrowing.

"She's.. I found her outside with my sister. Someone.. someone hurt her and she's.. I'm so sorry! There wasn't anything we could do!" Megan wanted to give Parvati a hug. What if had been Ernie or Stan or Sally? Megan would've died along with them. "I wanted to fix her, but she was already gone and I don't.. I'm so so sorry."

Parvati took one step backwards. What was she saying? Why was this girl telling her this and not a teacher? She made it sound like a childish accident. She shook her head. "I think you're mistaken. I just saw her." At dinner, yes. Or had that been the night before? "What are you saying?"

"She's de-dead." Megan hated how that sounded on her lips. "My sister and I were walking outside and we found her there. I'm so sorry," she said again. Megan couldn't apologise enough for what had happened.

"Someone killed her, Parvati. I didn't want.. I didn't want you to read it in a journal or during a staff announcement."

"She can't be." Parvati took yet another step back, her books slipping from the grip of her fingertips. "You must have found the wrong person. It's still...so terrible." She felt her words vibrating inside her. As Megan spoke, it sounded as if there was water between them, and Parvati was drowning.

"I'm sorry. Can I.. can I get someone for you? Do you need a hug?" Megan wasn't exactly friends with Parvati, was she? But still.. someone was sad and she didn't like seeing anyone upset.

Megan stepped forward and caught the books that were about fall to the floor. She set them down on the floor and pulled Parvati into a hug.

Parvati shook her head, the only expression she was able to convey was confusion and misunderstanding. That was all this was. It had to be. The war was over! Her best mate couldn't be gone.

And next thing she knew Megan's arms were around her. Parvati pushed away, almost disgusted. "What are you doing? I don't even know you!" She turned towards the door. "And I'm sorry, but you're mistaken. Lavender is up in her room." With that she dashed off, fully expecting to find her friend laying in her bed, her freshly painted toe nails hanging up in the hair as she poured over a magazine.
