Staff Meeting

Dumbledore’s idea of a staff meeting was bloody ridiculous in Severus’ considered opinion. Somewhere, buried amongst the jests and twinkles and offers of sweets, there would be assignments that no one ever quite remembered volunteering for after the fact, teachers would occasionally attempt to discuss the students, and then all were treated to at least thirty minutes of Filch’s whinging. It was a time-honored structure that hadn’t changed in thirteen years.

Until now.

“… seems to have a fascination with creatures that may not actually, erm, exist,” Lupin finished. “Or at least, I haven’t been able to find any mention of them in any of the Magical Creatures texts.”

At least that explained what he’d been doing in the library the other day.

“I think you will find that Miss Lovegood has an ability to see what others miss, even if she has a rather unusual way of communicating it.” The headmaster popped yet another sherbet lemon into his mouth and offered the bowl around for the sixteenth time.

Lupin cast a glance over at Severus, then looked away quickly.

What the devil was that about?

“I think you will find that Miss Lovegood has an ability to see what others miss, even if she has a rather unusual way of communicating it,” Albus said, popping yet another sweet into his mouth and offering more to the rest of the staff.

Remus declined yet again. Considering what Albus had just said, he stole a glance at Severus only to find himself being watched already. Remus gritted his teeth as he felt his trousers tighten under the scrutiny.

If he only knew what he does to me just by watching me.

As soon as Filch had finished his ritualized statement of complaint against the students, Remus fled to his quarters and a shower set as cold as it would go. He bowed his head under the onslaught of icy droplets and prayed to any being listening for some peace.
