Eddie had been staying at the Athenaeum InterContinental Athens for the last few days. It was a luxury hotel, and well situated for his meetings, although he thought he might need to find a flat soon. That had been his intention all along, really. At least, once his initial meetings were through and he had decided whether the company would go forward with this new operation or not. Now that he'd been here, though, he was starting to think that he would find a flat and stay regardless.
His meeting had ended promptly at eleven, and he'd hurried back to the hotel to shower and change into a fresh suit. Funny, for these meetings he dressed as he always did in what the Americans would call business casual. But for lunch, he wanted to look his best.
Cleaned up and dressed in a pinstriped suit of dark navy blue, he ran a nervous hand through his hair and sighed once. He'd never been on a blind date before, and so had no idea if these nerves were for the blindness of the date, or for the fact that the date was with a woman who seemed to share his dreams.
Could it be her? Could he have found the dark-haired beauty who'd been haunting him since he'd hit puberty? Through a book?
Stranger things had happened, though.
He picked up the bouquet he'd bought on the way back to the hotel and smiled at the scent of flowers wafting from it. It really was a masterfully done piece. White roses and lavender and bright red poppies without a bunch of the filler greens he usually saw, it looked professionally arranged (which it was), and yet still held the wild essence of the flowers his dream-woman liked to pick.
Checking himself one last time, he left his room and headed up to the roof where the Premiere was. He'd made reservations the night before after that strange conversation, and the hostess led him to a table. The weather was cooperating, so the table was outside, the view of the Plaka and the Acropolis uninterrupted and magnificent. There were a few other diners here, but not many. The restaurant was quite expensive, the staff in tuxedos even at lunch time and the few other diners clearly in meetings.
If she showed, it would be obvious who was waiting for her.
