Bonus Points: Team Brendon: Life's What Happens When You're Making Other Plans
All I Want Is You

Brendon and Ryan. That’s how it is. Sure, if you’re thinking of the band, you think Spencer, Ryan, Brent, and Brendon, and if you’re thinking of old-school friends who know everything about each other, you think Spencer and Ryan, but it you’re thinking of the pair of your friends who confuse all your other friend, you think of Brendon and Ryan.

Spencer knew that there was always something weird going on between them. There was so much chemistry there. He knew there was something going on, even if they didn’t.

***

The first time they kissed, it was amazing. Amazingly awkward. There was the banging of teeth and noses, and it was awkward. They got used to what the other did though, and it got better. Kissed got more heated, more interested. There became more touching in places, and Brendon liked it a lot.

***

Brent had never been very observant of his surroundings. It wasn’t till he went over to Ryan’s house one afternoon, he opened the door and Brendon’s hand was deep in Ryan’s boxer-briefs, did he figure out what was going on.

They didn’t notice the door opening, they didn’t hear his gasp of shock, but they did hear him slamming the door shut then running down the stairs and leaving.

***

They had been dating for four months when December hit. The December to change their lives forever.

***

“Hey, man,” Ryan said, walking up to his younger friend, “you want a smoke?”

He held out the lit cigarette in his hand to him, who pushed it away, shivering on the swing he was sitting on.

“No way, Ry. My parents freaked when they smelled my coat the other day. I was almost grounded, and I had to make up a story about how I was talking with Spence’s mom when she was smoking.”

Ryan nodded, and put on the cigarette on the side of the swing he sat on, and then wrapped it in the tissue he keeps all of his half-smoked cigs, and put it in his inside coat pocket.

“Why the hell are we meeting here, Bren? It’s fucking cold! We could’ve just done this in my room; my dad never catches us up there.”

Brendon smiled and pressed a kiss onto Ryan’s cheek, making him smile a bit, despite how uncomfortable he was in the cold.

It never really got below the thirties in Vegas, it didn’t snow, but there was always wind and it made it horribly cold.

“I wish it didn’t have to be like this,” Brendon sighed swaying his swing from side-to-side.

“I know, I don’t like sneaking around anymore than you do, but we’re both well aware that coming out would get our hides so tanned by our parents.”

Brendon sighed. He hated that. He wanted people to know how much he loved Ryan.

***

Ryan used to date this girl before he and Brendon started seeing each other. Katy. He liked Katy a lot, she was a nice girl, and she was the first girl he ever slept with. They had been dating for about five months when the first did it, and they did it a couple of times afterwards, then he and Brendon started seeing each other in late-August, and they broke up.

Katy had really liked Ryan, and she had wished that she could be with him still, but he was gay. Well, he was gay with Brendon, and she knew that Brendon was definitely gay. It made her sad, but she and Ryan stayed friends. Her friends made fun of her for it, she made boys gay, ha ha.

***

Brendon hated the closet. It was definitely the worst place in the world to be. He hated not being able to be himself, it made him feel awful. He was very much about self-expression. He was glad he was born when he was though, him being mixed, he would have hated being born just twenty, thirty years earlier, being so judged and hated because he wasn’t all one race. He hated oppression, he hated when people hated one another for things they couldn’t help.

He was gay, mixed, and Mormon. He would have been an easy target back in the day. He still is, somewhat obnoxious, loud, and he loved to cause a scene. He liked drama, that’s what day-time soaps were for, his guilty pleasure. But sometimes, real life drama was just too much for him.

***

Sometimes, Ryan would go on these little bursts of creativity where he would be stuck in his room for days with his guitar and notebook. Brendon loved coming to visit him during those times, because when he was going through a short little writer’s block, he would be crazy in bed, frantic, searching for an idea on Brendon in every crevice he could search, and Brendon would love it.

You see, Brendon was the bottom in the relationship. He didn’t have the stamina for top and he just loved having Ryan’s dick up his ass.

Brendon loved those tiny spurts where Ryan couldn’t figure out what to do next, but at the same time, he loved when he was just being creative, because he was so gentle, like Brendon would break with the slightest touch. Ryan was just all over amazing in bed, at least in Brendon’s point of view, but he loved when Ryan was creative. He was so amazing.

***

It was in December when Brendon figured out that he loved Ryan. That he wanted to be with him forever. He didn’t say it, but he knew it. He knew Ryan loved him too, it was the way that Ryan looked at him. Neither of them would say it aloud, but they both knew how the other felt, even if they had only been dating such a short time.

No one could know they were dating except their small circle of friends. Not parents, not teachers, no one but them. In Ryan’s mind, no one else deserved to know. Brendon wanted to come out so bad, but Ryan told him no, always no. He couldn’t. So Brendon didn’t, because he loved Ryan, he didn’t want to lose him.

***

The first time they had sex, Ryan came too quickly, only lasting a minute, and he knew he had hurt Brendon. So, until he worked an erection back up again, he finger-fucked Brendon, then stuck it back in and he lasted a bit longer, and Brendon came with him that time.

To Brendon, it was amazing and weird. The first time he’d ever had anything but crap in his butt, and it felt good. He liked it, and the next day, Brendon asked if they could do it again. They did, and it was better, and it kept getting better, Ryan’s stamina and aim, Brendon knew what to concentrate on in order to cum faster and make it better for him. They experimented with it, tried rimming, and they decided to try to include that in there as often as possible.

***

Ryan was in college while Brendon was a senior in high school. Ryan was lucky with his scholarship under his belt. Brendon had decided on not going to college already, wanting to go to beauty school. He wanted to do hair. He had always loved playing with his older sisters’ hair when he was younger, he actually cut their hair now. Stylish, layered, he knew that he would do great. He practiced putting in weaves at his mother’s friend’s beauty shop that he would work at once he was done with school. He actually did work there already, washing hair and sweeping up. He could tell that he and Ryan would lead a happy life, interesting, a hairdresser, and Ryan wanted to be a teacher. He couldn’t wait.

***

In that December, that awful, cold December, Katy came out to them. She was pregnant. She didn’t want it.

Ryan, despite the fact that man lying with man is an abomination, he was still Catholic. He couldn’t let her kill it, and he hated the government system, he couldn’t let it go into a foster home.

He asked her to keep the baby so he could take care of it.

***

Brendon didn’t know what to do. Ryan was having a baby. Ryan was eighteen, Brendon was seventeen, and they couldn’t take care of a kid.

But Ryan was so sure. He was already in love with the kid and he didn’t even know it yet.

Life was becoming so fucked up for Brendon that December.

***

“We have to tell our parents, Ry,” he said.

Ryan was nervous. It was so evident in everything he did. He was going to be a dad, a gay dad with a gay lover who would be the kid’s second gay dad.

“I know, I know, I’m just, this is pretty freaky. I mean, we’ve still got all the legal stuff to take care of, all the papers, we’re going to be seeing the lawyer about it tomorrow, this is just all too hectic to just come out to them right now.”

Ryan’s face was buried in his long, thin hands. Brendon pressed a kiss to the top of his head and rubbed the sides of his arms.

“You’re stressed, I know, so am I, so is Katy. It’s all really crazy and stressful, that’s why I think we need to come out to them. Maybe not today, but soon.”

Ryan took his head from his hands while Brendon spoke, then nodded when he finished. He understood what Brendon was talking about.
“Not today. Not tomorrow, but soon.”

Brendon smiled, then pressed a chaste kiss to his lips, making Ryan let out a small sigh. Things would get easier.

***

When they saw the lawyer the next day, they discussed adoption issues for Brendon. By the time the baby was due, Brendon would be eighteen and able to adopt it. It was due April 26, 2005, so they decided they would have the adoption papers signed as soon as Brendon turned eighteen. Till then, they had the paper that signed off all of Katy’s parental rights after the baby was born ready and done. Katy signed an oath not to abort the baby and everything was becoming so real.

***

A few days later, after most of the papers had been signed, a closed adoption agreed by all parties, did Ryan and Brendon come out to their parents.

They started with Brendon’s. Ryan was there, holding Brendon’s hand the entire time while he told them everything. He and Ryan were in love, and they were having a baby. The baby part confused his parents, but then they explained about Katy.

His parents mourned and celebrated their son. In a way, they had lost him, but they gained a new part of him, a part they didn’t know about, and they were going to get a grandbaby out of it.

They didn’t feel comfortable about how young they were, but they would help them all the same. Because even if Brendon didn’t adopt the baby legally, he would still stay with Ryan and they would unofficially declare it both of theirs.

They decided they would get them to attend parenting classes. Began to get a room ready for them and the baby, their older son David’s old room, which was a bit bigger than the one that Brendon had been staying in all of his life. They would stay with them till they could get a place of their own, till they were sure that they could take care of the baby all by themselves. After all, they were still kids themselves, they couldn’t roam out there in the world with a kid.

Ryan’s parents weren’t as accepting. Traditional Catholics, they didn’t like the gay aspect in it. They thought it was honorable that Ryan wouldn’t let his child be sucked out of his ex’s uterus, but they didn’t like that it would be raised by gay parents. Ryan and Brendon knew they would get used to it, both of the child’s parents were considerably good looking, Katy, always a rather handsome woman, strong, dark features, curvy but skinny. Not beautiful, but handsome. And Ryan, being the ever gorgeous Ryan, at least in Brendon’s opinion, he needs no description, he is beautiful itself.

***

Nearing the end of December, they got the first glimpse of their baby. It was a boy, the ultrasound technician said. Their baby boy. Even in the fuzzy, black-and-white ultrasound picture he was the most beautiful thing either had seen. It was the baby they were going to have together. The baby they would raise. They were so nervous, so anxious, they were really having a baby.

The classes that Brendon’s parents had signed them up for, they helped. It got all three ready for birth and then taking care of him.

Four more months, it seemed like such a long time away because December had taken so long. It was Christmas, and they got a few outfits for themselves, but mostly, they got baby things. A crib from Brendon’s grandparents, a high chair from Ryan’s aunt, lots of baby clothes and bottles. It was nerve racking, setting everything up. “Nesting” baby books called it. It was necessary for them. To make it “more real.” Like it could get any more real.

***

On Valentine’s Day, Brendon and Ryan needed time to themselves. A nice day off to forget the upcoming date. They went for diner, then they went over to Ryan’s old room at his dad’s house and they made love. His dad was out with some girlfriend of his, so they had the house to themselves. It was amazing, because they always had to be so quiet at Brendon’s house. They had both been staying there in the room they would share with the baby on their double bed. It was nice to be together, but the circumstances were highly stressful. One night alone.

Afterwards, they talked. They talked about their worries and about their dreams. Brendon still wanted to go to beauty school, but he didn’t know how they were going to be able to pay for everything with both of them as fulltime students with a kid. Brendon mentioned maybe postponing beauty school, just get a fulltime job somewhere, but Ryan wouldn’t have it.

They could handle it. They always would handle it.

***

In March, one of the most frightening things happened to Ryan, Brendon, and Katy. Katy went into early labor after a rather heated argument with her new boyfriend, Zack. The hospital had to drug her up, basically, to stop the birth. She had to keep calm and stay in bed for the rest of the pregnancy, and it was evident to Ryan and Brendon that her new relationship wasn’t helping. There had been stress-related issues before that, so Ryan and Brendon decided that she needed to stay at Brendon’s for the time being. She obviously couldn’t go to school for the last month of pregnancy, so Brendon would come home from school and tell her all the latest gossip and give her homework assigned by her teachers.

She was restless and bored constantly. The boys would often hang out with her on their days off when they weren’t at school or working to keep her company and keep her from going mad, same with her other friends from school and Brendon’s parents and siblings. They wanted to keep her as sane as possible, the baby as healthy as possible.

***

It was official. Brendon was eighteen, the papers were all signed, and the baby would be Brendon and Ryan’s. The room was ready, they had everything they needed for he baby. They were so scared all the time. Every call from Katy in her room could be the baby ready to come. Brendon was the worst though, every time she called, he would get the suitcase, ready to go the hospital. Frankly, it quickly got on Katy’s nerves, her moods always so ready to swing from playful to pissed off to depressed to horny back to playful and this happened about six times a day.

***

When the day finally did come, when the baby was actually ready to come, everything was hectic. Everyone was trying to get her to the hospital as quickly as possible, but she ended up with Ryan and Brendon and Brendon’s mom together in Ryan’s car. She was calm while Brendon had his own little melt-down, stressing about how he probably will be an awful dad, and just freaking out in general. Brendon’s mother in the backseat yelled about how he needed to shut up, that the baby feels whatever he’s feeling so he needed to calm the fuck down. Just hearing his mother curse was enough to shut him up.

***

Ten hours later, their little boy was there, so small in Ryan’s arms. He didn’t really have much hair yet, his face was squished up and pink. They had already agreed on a name months before, Julian Derek.

He was beautiful, despite how pissed newborns always look. He was so precious, everyone so careful with him. His cousins, his aunts, his uncles, his grandparents, and definitely his parents were all so careful holding the little bundle of joy.
It was definitely real now, with their child in their arms. Taking him home the next day, so carefully setting him down in his crib. So careful, so precious.

***

The first few months were the worst, but the best. Watching their baby grow so quickly. The months pasted so fast, probably due to lack of sleep. But they wouldn’t have given it up for anything.

They worried their relationship would suffer, and the intimacy portion did somewhat, but their emotional bond grew so much more. And they thought they loved each other before.

With Julian tucked away, sleeping in his stroller on Ryan’s nineteenth birthday, a year from when Ryan and Brendon started seeing each other. Not a hairdresser and not a teacher yet, but still much happier than anyone their age could be.
