The Chantry does not require that mages suppress their magic, they are simply expected to use their abilities in good faith. We, the Templars, provide oversight. Someone must be accountable if a mage is compromised; there must be protections in place against the misuse of such power for the good of the populace, but also a bulwark of support to keep mages from slipping in the first place.
I feel that if I knew better how these matters are dealt with in the Anderfels, perhaps it would be simpler to bridge the gap in our understanding. May I ask about your mother's people?
