Who: Jacen and Tenel Ka Solo
What: An AI Walk In Case
Where: AI and then Downtown LA
When: 6th November Early Evening
Rating: PG, Jedi being violent at things
Status: In Progress

It was quite a distressing case and Tenel Ka was not afraid of using her Force influence to calm the poor man down. He'd gambled his son to Kailiff demons. But he'd done it as a last resort, desperate and broken he'd needed to pay for the boy to have an operation and Tenel Ka's heart had broken for him as soon as he had walked through the doors of the hotel and told his story. She'd never known poverty like that but she'd known desperation. Faith had given the case to her and Jacen, deciding that as parents themselves they could be sympathetic to the man and his plight. Also as Jedi the Kailiff weren't going to pose them a great deal of problems.

Not that it would be easy even for the Solos.

"Now listen to me Bhiral, We'll find your boy, do you understand?"

She stood beside Jacen, fixing her hunting knife in her boot and making sure she had everything she would need for the case. They'd wanted to take it as soon as they'd heard what it was, a child in danger was something close to their hearts for obvious reasons.

Those demons were going to suffer for this, and painfully.

If there was one fact that remained true no matter which galaxy he was in, Jacen Solo could not stand those who preyed on children. He couldn't even blame the father, the broken man who had come into Angel Investigations for help to find his son. Faith had been right to give the file to them.

He adjusted his belt slightly, with the two lightsabers firmly attached. He also carried a single stake out of habit, tucked away in his jacket, the only weapons he found he ever needed. The Force gave him everything else.

They wouldn't need to take the file, currently laying on the desk. All the details had been memorized, starting with the club where the backroom poker game had been held. Starting there was the obvious plan, and both he and Tenel Ka were more than prepared to take on any Kailiff that would show.

Bhiral nodded weakly at Tenel Ka's assurance. He couldn't even seem able to cry any more, every scrap of energy he had already used up. Jacen simply reached out and squeezed his shoulder slightly in reassurance before nodding to his Queen.

"We should move."

He grabbed the keys to Faith's car as he moved towards the door. Bhiral would probably wait right there for them, probably clutching at the coffee that was no doubt cold by now and not even sipped at, not moving until they returned with his son.

"Fact" said the Hapan softly and followed Jacen toward the door, a look of little else than worry in her eyes as they walked toward Faith's car, Tenel Ka climbing into the passanger seat. Jacen really needed to consider getting one of his own. She thought she might like it.

"Lets get there, quickly as we can Jacen, I don't know what they'd do with the boy and I'm not about to see that poor man grieve for a desperate act"

She knew full well she didn't need to say it, knew Jacen felt the same as she did.

"Whats the plan, blaze in lightsabers on and hit until we get the boy or will we try subtle?"

Jacen nodded grimly, in complete agreement with his wife. The man had done something tragically foolish, but ultimately desperate and understandable. And if they were too slow he would pay a terrible price for it. The child could be killed, or even sold off as some kind of slave. The possibilities were all too unlimited.

He gripped the steering wheel tightly as they pulled out into the traffic, part of his mind considering buying one of these. As much as Faith still had her bike to use, there were too few vehicles for AI.

"What do you think?" He glanced next to him to Tenel Ka, wanting her opinion. "Both plans have merit. Choose the wrong one and this could go badly. So which one is right?"

Tenel Ka noted the tenseness of her husband, he always got like this before fights, before things got bad. He always got this focused.

"I'm going to say caution. Go in as a couple, shielding our minds, hiding our weapons, pretend to be interested, play the game, scope things out and then find the boy. Once we sense him. You get him. I defend. You're the better at outright attack. Going in weapons blazing could get the boy killed and I refuse to have to explain to that poor desperate man that he'd entrusted his son's fate to us only to leave it"

She looked back to Jacen, tensing herself slightly.

"Do you agree? What do you suggest"

Jacen considered Tenel Ka's words before he nodded, agreeing with her assessment. Even with the information they had, they didn't know enough to go in with a full attack.

"It's a good plan. We don't know for certain that the boy is even going to be at the location, or what sorts of numbers we will be dealing with. Some subtlety is appropriate," he glanced next to her with a small smile, though he lacked any real humor.

"And besides, we can always move up to a weapons blazing attack if it is needed."

He pulled the car into the appropriate road, parking it up a little distance from the place where the backroom poker had been held. He still felt mildly sick, gambling for kittens was one thing, but for a child? It was repulsive.

Taking a deep breath, he centered himself, suppressing the emotions he was feeling so he could focus on what he needed to do and he opened himself in the Force to increase the connection to his wife. Their minds and actions could work as one, it was useful in a fight. And helped cheat at poker.

She would never tire of that feeling, that moment when Jacen let her into his mind so completely it was as if she knew every facet of him, and she supposed she did. That was part of marraige wasn't it. Rather, a part of love. He hated why they were here, hated that anyone would do that to a child but he'd buried it. He was not calling on his darker emotions to fuel his power and she was as ever proud of him,

"...We do subtlty?" she commented, lightening the mood slightly, or so she hoped. They would have to act slightly more like they were happy to be here. She moved up beside him covering her lightsaber with the long coat she wore and pushed open the door, by hand this time, finding as expected a room full of demons, and a card game, and yes. Some kittens.

"I told you this was the place darling" she started, quickly searching the minds of the patrons for a name. "I told you that Gregson wouldn't let us down"

Jacen simply responded with a smirk as he followed his Queen into the dark room, a dimly lit table in the center of it with a group of demons of various races sitting around with their cards in their hands and piles of poker chips in front of them. The game was clearly in full swing and Jacen could hear the mewls of the kittens coming from baskets.

That was it, they were rescuing the kittens too.

"He hasn't let us down about the location, but whether or not the game is all he promised is another matter," his tone was almost drawling as he stepped up to stand beside his wife, playing along with her act completely. He reached out with the Force, sensing how many Kailiff demons were standing around, the silent body guards that they would need to deal with. Not too many, maybe half a dozen. Enough to deal with the four players currently with the demon who was clearly their boss, a particularly large Kailiff at the head of the table. Jacen ignored the other players and addressed him directly.

"So what do you say? Got room for another one?"

She might let him keep one. Might. If they rescued the boy and the kittens he could have one. Not the one trying to crawl its way out of the bag though. It was trouble, she could tell.

"Yes well I suppose thats up to these fine gentlemen isn't it" she told him, people often told her her Hapan accent sounded vaugely European by the standards of this world, so she played it up.

The demons were obviously intrigued, the Solo's were unfamiliar to them and they looked...well they certainly were unique as a couple.

"What happened her arm?" one asked, a question Tenel Ka preempted Jacen getting annoyed about, by shrugging.

"Black market betting has its downsides" she said,

The larger Kailiff was sizing Jacen up, he didn't like the stoicism, it was hard to read, though if he could get him to bet the little lady at some point it'd be worth it.

Jacen almost gave Tenel Ka a disapproving look. That little kitten was not trouble, he was just being determined. And maybe he would keep two.

He would never get tired of the sound of her accent, the lighter tones from Hapes sounding almost exotic. His own accent was a blend, some of his mother's from Alderaan and some from Coruscant, he only tended to slip into the brasher sound of his father's Corellian ancestry when he was tired. Or drunk. The result was something between American and British of this world, and right now he played up the British side, the colder, slightly cutting arrogance he needed to be to gain some interest.

Even if the interest in Tenel Ka's arm wasn't exactly something he liked. "You win some, you lose some," he shrugged. He pulled out a small wad of cash, throwing it onto the table. With his clothes being well made and his wife being beautiful, the implication was that there was much more where that came from.

"So, shall we play?"

There was a pause before the Kailiff in charge nodded and Jacen smirked, pulling out a chair for Tenel Ka and then sitting in another himself.

"Deal them in," the boss gestured to the dealer, who handed them each a pile of chips and dealt out the cards for the next hand.

Determined but trouble, all the other kittens telling it it was best to stay where they were and come up with a plan, but it, oh no, it had to try and escape on its own, and where had the idea of two come from. Two was pushing it and she told him as much through their link.

But down to business.

She took the offered seat once the Kailiff decided they were to be allowed to join and looked around at their compitition as the hand was being dealt, all sorts of emotions, lazy confidance, fear, confusion. Oh this game was a pit of iniquity. They were no better than the Hutts, and she would enjoy this.

She looked at her offered cards, Faith had explained the basics, and Jacen being his fathers son had picked it up pretty quickly, and she had the mind link. They'd be alright for now.

"This will be fun!" she exclaimed keeping up the pretense she didn't know a whole lot about what they were doing. Misdirection. She enjoyed it.

Gambling was gambling, no matter which galaxy one was in. The details may have been different but the fundamental basics were the same. Details like bluffing, and reading your opponent.

Which really was made easier if one was a Jedi. It wasn't cheating, it was taking full advantage of one's natural abilities. Really.

Still, Jacen had to fight to suppress a smirk. He was planning on saving the boy and winning all the kittens. And keeping one. Maybe two.

The game was called Texas Hold'Em, and he had seen Faith play it for fun before and he understood the rules, even as he put on an indulgent smile for his wife. "Let's just not lose any more limbs, okay, darling?"

A nod to the dealer had them get their cards. He glanced at his, the Jack and King of spades. Not bad, high cards, of the same suit. A quick sense of the table told him that the Kailiff in charge was holding a hand he considered to be weak but not unplayable, while the others seemed slightly more confident but not assured of victory just yet. Jacen held up the poker chip needed to keep him in the hand, the value of the blind.

"I call."

Tenel Ka smiled sweetly, "I'll try darling, I just enjoy the game so much"

Tenel Ka looked around the room. Her hand wasn't that good, not at all, but she wondered if she mightn't help Jacen out with it. She looked at the chips in her hand, sharing the mental link with her husband that told her he had a good hand this round.

She sorted some chips.

"I shall raise" she said simply doubling the bet.

Jacen had to know what she was doing, he'd adjust his game accordingly and they were both already mentally searching for the boy.

Jacen could sense the mood around the table, some were confident, others less so. When Tenel Ka raised, one of the demons, a breed he didn't recognize, folded. The lead Kailiff however, along with three others, all called, as did Jacen when his time came. The dealer nodded and gathered the chips before burning the first card and dealing the three flops.

Two more spades hit, the 10 and the five, along with the King of Hearts. Not bad, it put Jacen in the running for a flush draw as well as giving him the top pair on the board. The Ace of Spades was still in question though and that was enough to keep his confidence from being absolute.

A few low bets went around the table. Either the table were all playing it safe or they had middling to weak hands, the feeling varied from player to player. When it came to Jacen's time, he considered a moment before he put down double the number of chips.

"I raise."

He didn't need to glance to his wife to know what she was doing, mental links were a joy to have. His main focus was on the lead Kailiff, the one who had the boy. Jacen needed to know, how much would he gamble and where did he keep his winnings.

Tenel Ka put enough chips in to ensure that Jacen would get a good lot of money from her if, no, when, he won this round. It was a tactic she was happy to use given that she was focusing more on finding the boy. The Kaliff wasn't expecting telepaths but she believed he was just naturally strong willed. She'd get through, and if not there was the man beside her. They'd get the information on the boy and Jacen would probably save the kittens as well.

She watched the game for a little while, trying to gauge emotion, worries. The usual for a game with such stakes. The trick was picking out what lay underneath that.

It was down to another demon's bet and Jacen smirked slightly, deciding to use just a little bit of Force persuasion.

"You should bet those kittens."

The male blinked before he nodded. "I will bet these kittens."

They were safe then. Jacen was confident, especially when the next card was dealt, the three of diamonds. A round of low betting went on and he focused mostly on the Kailiff, simply matching the chips when it was his turn. And finally the Jack of clubs was dealt, giving him two pair. And any chance of the flush was gone.

Jacen raised his eyes to meet the Kailiff's, putting every amount of persuasion in that he could. "I raise. You will match my bet with the boy."

There was some confusion from the others around the table as they clearly wondered which boy Jacen was referring to, but the Kailiff merely nodded. Jacen smirked, sure now that he had the right demon and the boy was still in his possession, before placing his cards down.

"Two pair. Kings over Jacks."

There was a long pause before the Kailiff snarled, reaching for a gun.

"I think he lost," Jacen staged whispered to Tenel Ka before he stood, not quite going for the lightsaber, not yet.

"Where is he?"

Now that had been cheating. Force persuasion to win the boy and kittens, Tenel Ka had never been as proud of her husband as she was right now. When he won, her danger sense told her of the gun before it found its way pointed at them, It didn't phase the Hapan. Bullets could be stopped.

The Kailiff didn't answer, of course it was on his mind. Tenel Ka pushed caring little about the comfort of the demon. Back room, there was another room hidden in the wall of the back room and the boy was hidden there, given only the basics to live on. Treated as well as any collatteral was. But he was about to be freed. Because just as she knew, now so did Jacen.

"Go ahead darling, I'll stay and chat with our new friends, and keep an eye on the kittens. Of which you may keep one."

Her lips curled into a thin smile, her hand resting near but not yet on, her lightsaber. She was a faster draw than any of them even one armed, and she knew it.

"So.." she began "Kidnapping. I don't know if you know this, I suspect you don't since none of you appear telepathic but I really do hate kidnappers. Its not so much your reasons as I'm sure you have committments, its the act itself, its lazy. And really, its just uncivillised. And then we have to fight and limbs are lost in the fighting and generally its unpleasent. So ideally you will wait until my husband returns with the boy and collects the rest of what he's won here tonight"

The Kaliff fired and Tenel Ka's turquise rancor hilted blade sprang to life disintergrating the bullet on contact.

"Or, you could be fools." she sighed and lept into the fray.

Jacen bowed slightly to his Queen with a smirk before he took off to go and find the back room and the boy. Amid his rage that a chil could be treated that way was the relief and the certainty that the torment was to come to an end.

It didn't take him long and the padlock on the door was nothing to a Jedi. As the door swung open and the light poured into the room, the child looked up, terrified.

"It's okay," Jacen murmured, soothingly, sending some calm through the Force. "I know your father, Bhiral, he sent us to help you."

The use of his fathers name seemed to calm the boy, enough that Jacen could slip an arm around him to carry him out. He returned to the main room, where his wife was looking simply magnificent, her lightsaber twirling with an elegant grace.

"Don't worry, she's with me," he quipped to the boy, who was watching her with wide, awe struck eyes.

"Are you quite alright there?" Jacen called out, every instinct primed to pull out Alema's silver lightsaber and join in the fight if Tenel Ka needed the back up.

Tenel Ka smiled, though grimly as Jacen returned with the boy at his side, it was best if he focused on him. She wasn't entirely troubled by the Kaliff.

In fact she had just divested the leader of its arm because he had decided to run at her to attack. It had been the only way. The lightsaber was not a weapon designed to subdue. The two remaining watched her, and the returning Jacen and as one dropped their weapons.

The Hapan Queen didn't need to look at Jacen to discuss the next move with him.

"Down" she insisted, lightsaber still in hand. Jacen was calming the boy. She was calling on all her Hapan Training, The look she usually reserved for the Imperial Moffs.

"They'll comply, won't you?"

Even with the boy's fear, Jacen still looked at his wife with an open pride and admiration. He did love it when she got like this, so commanding and royal, in a way that no one dared to go against.

"I think they wouldn't dare not to," he answered with an amused drawl in his tone, as he kept one arm around the boy to comfort him, and raised his hand to use the Force to bring the box of kittens to him.

"That's my wife," he bent down with a stage mutter to the boy, who was gradually calming. "Isn't she magnificent? She's here to rescue you too."

The boy watched with wide eyes at the lightsaber before turning to Jacen. "Jedi?"

Jacen smirked slightly before he nodded. "Yes, we're both Jedi, so see, it's going to be just fine."
