When Kennedy had returned from LA the first time, Vi had listened in surprise at some of the stories she'd told. The city sounded wild and crazy and now finding herself suddenly dropped into and stuck there, her skepticism had been completely erased. In the first few days, she'd seen that. Halloween, as funny as it had been, was strange even for what she was used to.

She needed to get back to New York and the cell that she and Kennedy co-lead. Georgina was a smart girl, good slayer, but she'd never been put into the leadership position. Now it was trial by fire. As much as Vi was growing to really like the Angel Investigations crew and their allies (all right, really, really liked because they had some very interesting and nice people), it didn't set well with her to have just dropped her duties.

But she was going to help in any way that she could while she was there. So she decided to familiarize herself with the city. Coming from a small town, most of her experience with cities had come in the last couple of years and LA's layout was still a complete mystery to her. So with a stake stuck in her back pocket and her jacket hiding it from view, she headed out.

Angel was not ashamed to say he had hidden from the toys. Puppets, puppets come to life and bad memories had ensued, He'd kept to the Hallow'een traditions for vampires and stayed out of trouble. He'd...for lack of a better word, brooded. He'd been doing that a lot since he'd gotten here and since Cordelia had gone again.

He hadn't found a place to fit yet. He wasn't the Champion, Faith was in charge of offence and doing a good job at it, It didn't bother him really but he needed something to do, something to stop the brooding maybe.

So he'd gone back to the classic and patrolled. And upon leaving the Hotel he immediatly sensed a Slayer. He knew enough about them to know how they acted, how they moved, and the young redhead moved like a Slayer. One of the new ones Willow had created.

"Hi" he said simply, he wasn't a man of many words on first meetings, Buffy could attest to that. "Kennedy?...or Vi?".

Process of elimination. Buffy, Faith and Kendra he knew.

The Hyperion was in a nice neighborhood, Vi had decided a few minutes into her walk. It wasn't high class and snobbery, but had that feel of Old Hollywood without the added bonus of 'you're about to be mugged around the next corner.' It was quiet but there were still signs of life around, cars that didn't look like they belonged in junk yards, business closed for the night. She liked it.

Her hand moved down to her side, inches away from the stake as she her "spidey senses", as one of the girls called it, kicked in. There was someone heading her way, someone she didn't know. "Hi," she replied, giving him a hesitant smile. She squinted in what little light was available, studying his face. Definitely familiar and otherwordly vibes.

"I'm Vi. You're with the Hyperion, right?"

"Yeah," he told her, supposing he was. Just in a different way than before. "I'm Angel" he explained, wondering had she heard of him, or like a lot of the Slayers did she know him from when he'd been in charge of Wolfram and Hart.

"You patrolling?, I know the city pretty well if you don't mind me coming along. I could do with getting out of the hotel. I mean I understand, if you don't"

He knew there had been issues with his place in the city before now, Andrew Wells had told him as much. That still confused him more than a little. He'd taken the firm over for good reasons or so he'd believed.

That name she knew. Well, sort of. What she knew of him had come from Spike, Andrew, and Mr. Giles. Vampire with a soul like Spike but he'd taken over the Los Angeles branch of Wolfram and Hart. Which obviously didn't take very well since he was here and Lilah was there and the two of them were not buddy buddy. So that was going to be a little confusing.

"So you're the infamous Angel," she stated, sliding her hands in her pockets. "I've heard a lot about you." And that was the phrase that made conversations uncomfortable. She didn't do well with uncomfortable. But patrolling, that was a very safe topic to talk about.

"That'd be nice, actually. I've never been here. Ever." She motioned down the way she'd been walking. "So getting to know some of the city at least would be great?"

Infamous was one word for it. Not entirely inappropriate much as he wished it was. Still she hadn't gone for the stake so obviously she knew enough about him to know he wasn't a danger. Usually.

"...I can imagine you have. And since you still want to patrol with me I can only assume it was good things. Mostly anyway."

He followed the route Vi had started down, already alert for any dangers, though a Slayer and the Vampire with a Soul. Or one of anyway, they would make a formidable team. He worked well with Slayers.

"Its a strange city, even without the people from other dimensions. It takes some getting used to but we can do real good here. Which you're already starting to. I'll show you around, point out some of the demon bars and whatever else you think you'd need to know. Faith could probably go into more detail on the last year but I'll get you started"

"Mostly," Vi agreed and then her shoulders rose in a slight shrug, "and that little part with you and Wolfram and Hart but I'm guessing since you're here and someone else is there that it didn't work out?" It came out as more of a ramble than she expected, which she hadn't done in a while, but it was a weird thing to ask.

There was also the whole Scourge of Europe thing but that had been before the soul, so that wasn't nearly as important as the CEO thing. Spike had been hanging around them too so it looked like things had turned out all right. "I think Andrew might've exaggerated a few things."

He was taller than she'd thought he'd be, but just as dark. She could definitely see him being the broody type. "Thanks. I know my part of New York like the back of my hand but I guess the Powers That Be wanted us here." She kept an eye on their surroundings, arms crossing lightly over her stomach so that she could quickly reach for her stake at any time. "It's really neat, the people that they've chosen. Not for them, I guess, because they can't go home, but there seems to be a very ecclectic group in the Hyperion. I mean that in a nice way."

Yeah there it was. Made sense, he remembered Andrew taking Dana away because they hadn't trusted his connection, he'd had his squad none of whom, he'd told Angel, had ever slept with him. He'd only ever slept with the one Slayer...and that hadn't ended well.

"We ended up taking down the Black Thorn...so it wasn't all bad, but I get it, we made the wrong call."

They walked a little way, the girl moving like a Slayer, alert and ready, he was decidedly impressed with Willow's spell, it had definitely put a dint in the evil.

"Its unique, I mean, Jedi and a robot and witches and all sorts. And I heard someone talk about a couple of actual Angels hanging around"

Note to self: Look up Black Thorn for better understanding of the magnitude of that fight. The name sounded ominous and Angel and his people having been against them, that was a point in his favor. There had been so many threats to the cell lately that Vi's head was full of weird names and possible problems. Studying one more wouldn't hurt.

"That's fair." She looked over at him. "We only heard that you guys had taken over. After all the grief the New York branch has been giving us, it's easy to look on that a little less favorably. Taking down a group of evil, that changes it up a little," she explained. "Any association with Wolfram and Hart tends to give the heebie jeebies."

Vi grinned as he listed off the strange newcomers, a little excited. It was a once in a lifetime chance of having people like this in one city and getting to meet them. Even if she was a co-cell leading Slayer now, it still didn't stop her from having the ridiculously dorky squee moments. "Like the kind with wings and a halo?" she asked in surprise, pointing to the top of her head.

"It was an unexpected oppertunity, and one we all thought we'd be stupid not to take, fight from the inside out, we did try to make it better than it was but I suppose there are some evils that can't be fought. Still we used it and its resources to deal with the Black Thorn and that can't be discounted."

He remembered of all people Lindsey telling him to make Wolfram and Hart play his game and not let them make him play theirs. Nice sentiments if he hadn't later tried to kill him and all. Still, he hadn't been entirely wrong.

"Understandable though" he responded finally "People like Lilah, Eve and...some others. They've never produced anything good"

Enough about Wolfram and Hart, more than enough, he didn't like talking about that year. Though they had offered him help with Connor. That had been enough for him to accept.

"Angels, apparently. Not so sure about Halo's haven't met them. Suppose youd have to ask them. Not seen anyone around the city sporting a Halo though"

"They didn't tell us that," Vi admitted. "Actually, all we got was you guys took it over. Just a short little blurb. Without some of the details it didn't sound all that good." Which Harmony's show had managed to do with the Slayers. "I'm understanding better as we talk and walk." Which with them being on the same team was a good thing.

She made a face. "Not that we've heard of. The current regime at the New York branch keeps trying to find ways to put us in jail. It's nice here because you guys have your own lawyer. Also, your own bathrooms, which is just as amazing actually." She'd experienced the morning rush one too many times. It wasn't right to have to fight for the shower.

"It probably wouldn't look all that out of place around here," she said, laughing. "I will ask though. It'd make a great weapon. Kind of like Xena's chakram."

"Thats the problem I suppose. Unless you know the whole story there's always going to be room for error. There's always going to be things that just get explained wrong or thought about wrong, and its no ones fault." It had happened so many times before in his experiance and would happen again. Also, it had been Wolfram and Hart. And he had once been a monster feared across the world. They weren't a good combo.

He laughed. He didn't get the crazy need for the bathroom free which a dozen or so girls in one place seemed to need. And there was the halo thing

"...You should ask them. The Angels. I think it would be a wonderful idea" he added amused.

"Or its someone's fault because they never thought to check their facts in the first place," Vi added, a little bitter. "Like a certain reality show. People devote their lives to protecting the innocent and all it takes is some ditzy blond with the media's ear to make them into something they're not." She shook her head. "Sorry. This is probably the last thing you want to be talking about."

She'd never thought about asking angels for anything, much less about their headgear and its usefulness in violence. "If I meet up with one, I think I have to now, because I'll keep thinking about it otherwise."

Vi frowned, staring ahead. "You never think you'd be in a position to ask angels anything." LA just got stranger.

((Heaven hath no fury like the Halo Chakram :p))

"Yeah that could be it too" he added, knowing full well how much trouble Harmony was causing the Slayers, Causing all of them really. Still they'd pulled her out when they thought she was being threatened. Harmony might be a bit of an idiot but her people were smart whoever they were.

"Its alright. I have a little bit of a vested interest in the fate of the Slayers. Faith's a good friend, and Buffy's...she's Buffy"

Angel kept walking glad of the topic of the Angel Halo to distract him from thoughts of the blonde Slayer.

"Did you ever think vampires were real before you found out what you were? I know I could have never fathomed the idea of vampires before I was one. The world is weird Vi. Its wasier just to go along with it and do the best you can"

"I meant with the law firm but it's good to know that you're interested," Vi said quickly. "It's nice to have people who think we're not evil in general." Not that that number was staggering either, but it was enough to not be comfortable. "I remember when MTV used to be all about music and not reality shows."

She shook her head. "There was stuff like Interview with a Vampire and stuff like that but actually real vampires? No. I didn't even see one until I got to Sunnydale and then it was a Turok Han. Vampire on steroids." She glanced at Angel.

"That's what we're trying to do. Take it one day at a time, make the world a better place a little at a time, and hope you can keep your crew alive doing it." Vi shrugged. "Or so the inspirational say."

"I blame that heiress girl" he confided, and he did. Reality TV was something he'd never had to consider until now, and he didn't like it. He missed when TV was good, and he liked those police shows in various cities. And detectives, he loved a good detective show. "TV these days..." he grumbled "Never used to be like that"

He liked the point, Vi was right, one day at a time so said the inspirational, whoever they were.

"Interview with a vampire set vampires back years y'know, absolute years. That Cruise guy has a lot to answer for"

"Paris Hilton?" Angel blaming Paris for something amused Vi in a way she could not explain. She pressed her lips together, trying to fight the smile that was trying to make an appearence. "It goes back to Survivor, I think. It was so successful that people wanted some of it for themselves."

The smile finally did break. "You sounded like an old guy saying that. Did you walk twenty miles in the snow uphill to get to school too?" she asked, unable to help it.

Vi made a face and shook her head. "I never got that movie. Those vampires were so whiny. I think that's all Louis did. Championship whiner."

"Reality TV, Seriously what person thought that up. Its probably a Wolfram and Hart Client you know, should have had Lorne look into it before." he considered, it had caused more trouble than it was worth. It had made Harmony a celebrity. That was frankly, terrifying.

Was she laughing at him. "I did a few times actually, Galway weather wasn't much and when it snowed it really snowed, though it wasn't as bad as inland, we had a little bit of sea air around Salthill and places like that. Of course that was on the rare occasion I decided to grace the school with my presence"

She had a point about Louis though. Whiner, self absorbed whiney vampire. "Reminds me of Spike, doesn't he remind you of Spike?"

"Not all reality TV is bad. Some of it is a guilty pleasure. You come home from patrol and kick back with a bowl of popcorn and America's Top Model." She frowned, tilting her head in confusion. "Who's Lorne?" Since the name hadn't been said in disgust, she assumed it was someone he was on better terms with. One of his group, maybe?

Vi grinned. "So you were a slacker type when you were school age? I never would have guessed that." After everything she'd read, that was the last thing guessed. Angelus had been one to raise the bar and Angel was no slouch in the world saving department. Neither version screamed 'slacker' to her.

"Spike is more of the 'I've got a cocky attitude and I know how to use it' kind," she answered honestly. "I think he'd probably make Louis's life a living hell. Which isn't really a bad thing."

"America's what now..."

He decided very quickly that he really didn't want to know and waved off any answer she might have given. Reality TV was evil and obviously run by Wolfram and Hart. Maybe he could find a way to blame Lindsey for this 'Surrvivor' thing. "Lorne was one of my team a while back, big on the showtunes. Had him running the Entertainment Division when we ran Wolfram and Hart"

And now he had Silverlake...

"I was a tearaway, school was down my list of priorities as a boy and as I grew up it only went further. Then there was drink and women. The women as it happened prooved to be the downfall"

Liam. He sometimes wondered how his life would have turned out if he'd never gone down that alley. He didn't think it would have been much addition.

He scoffed at the sort of compliment to Spike.

"Yeah he is now...I knew him when he was writing bad poetry. And yes, I mean bad, bad poetry"

Vi was about to launch into explanation when Angel waved it off. Her lips pressed tightly together, fighting off another grin. "He sounds like a nice guy." Most of the people who liked showtunes couldn't be evil, right? Except for that demon that made everything a living musical.

"Oh. I knew guys like you when I was in school. Casanovas, only not because they were not nearly as great as they thought they were." That seemed like a lifetime ago, when in reality it had only been a few short years. Things really had changed. "A woman?"

Spike wrote poetry. Vi frowned and looked at Angel, trying to decide whether or not he was messing with her. "Seriously?"

She was trying not to laugh, he really really needed to insist on a moratorium on Slayers laughing at him. Buffy had started it. Unsuprisingly. "No he wasn't evil. Though I could have done with less of the showtunes sometimes, he does have a pretty extensive repitoire and a good voice I have to admit"

Guys like him, he doubted it. He hadn't so much been a Cassanova as a reasonably handsome boy from a good family. And there had been the kind of women that frequented the pubs he'd so loved.

"A woman. Isn't it always. Name of Darla, she was my sire"

Thoughts of Darla were painful now, everything in the last few years, finding her only to loose her again, also thanks to Lindsey. And she'd borne him a son. He missed Connor terribly, just like he missed her, and Cordelia, and Wes, and Gunn though thinking about him was painful too.

"Seriously" he told her about the poetry glad of a chance to move off topic "Really bad poetry too. Overuse of the word effulgent"

So maybe Vi wanted to meet this Lorne guy a little. Anyone who knew his way around showtunes, knew how to sing, and could weild a vocab? Probably wasn't all that bad of a guy. "I bet he was the peacemaker," she said, nodding once. "He sounds like the kind of guy who would break up fights and ask why we all can't get along."

Her lips formed an 'o', remembering that name. She'd come across it a couple of times in the Watcher Diaries, like Angel's, while looking for other information. She almost felt bad about being glad she was dust and Angel and Spike had souls.

"Effulgent," Vi echoed, frowning. "What does that mean?" That was one word that had never come up on her SATs. "I saw that once in a book we read for class. It sounds...fluffy."
