Who - Clary Morgenstern and Ruby
What-  Happens upon trouble she didn't cause
Where- LAWC
When- Not long post the LAWC attack
Rating- TBD
Status- In Progress

Focus on other things, all the other things. Anything Ruby could think of to do in her now ridiculous amount of spare time she took up to do. She needed to, figured she'd have gone mad months back otherwise, and even with it all, sometimes...

She'd gone through the places in town that might have been looking for a boost of magical protection, now that Cas was letting her use magic again just not for whatever personal reasons she might have once had and now that she was in the shop she'd turned her mind and her magic toward protection. The magic she'd put on the Winchester house, with John's permission and even thanks, she throught wryly,  was still holding. Still keeping out the vampires and demons, the rest she couldn't do a lot to stop but the family had their own methods, she knew that all too well. But now she needed to focus on why she was going where she was.

She turned the corner toward the LAWC and quickly headed up the steps, it would be a quick visit, talk to Cathy, explain no, she wasn't evil, she was legitimatly offering, they could check with Cas if they didn't believe her, they could have Anya or Lavender do something instead if they weren't comfortable with her, the usual stuff that she so hated but understood all the same.

It wasn't till she got closer that she knew something was wrong.

Just inside the door, signs of a struggle, of fighting, plants spilled from cracked pots, tables knocked over, a weapon, a blade lying not far from...a girl...bleeding, she was bleeding and its scent was...

Ruby made herself focus on the facts. She was bleeding, the girl on the floor that Ruby remembered was called Clary. And there was no sign of Cathy McDonald.

One of those times where a hex bag might actually have been legitimatly useful even just as smelling salts, she knocked the table away with a wave of power from her hand and knelt beside the girl examining her. It was a bad cut but she didn't think life threatening, and she would try to wake her and if not she would call to Cas to come and help. She shook the girl just slightly, gently hand at her head in case she was in shock or anything when she woke.

"Clary..." she called softly "Clary can you hear me?"

Someone was trying to wake her up, she became aware of that, and a second later aware of the feeling that her head felt like it was trying to split open. When was the last time she had a headache that bad? A few weeks ago, though someone had healed her before it got bad. So why hadn't someone drawn the rune yet? That was what usually happened. You get hurt- you get healed, right? It took her a minute to remember that she wasn't at home. She was in LA. Memories of the fight came back to her. It hadn't really been a fight though, more like Clary getting her ass kicked and Cathy-

Oh hell, Cathy.

Focus. Someone who knew her name was beside her, she could feel the persons hand. A woman, it had sounded like a woman. She began to stir, and slowly opened her eyes, only to shut them again when the light assaulted her vision. It was still day time. Either the attack happened yesterday - which she doubted because Cathy's husband would have showed up before then, or the attack had only just happened recently.

"Cathy." she said breathlessly. "They took Mrs. McDonald." not that she had the slightest clue who they were, though if she thought about it probably wouldn't be that hard to figure out.

Try to force her body to move, her head- followed by her stomach screamed in protest. Keeping her eyes shut, she reached for her pocket to pull out her stele- it looked like a tricked out pen. "Can you use this?" she asked, holding it up to the woman. She hadn't got a good look at her yet, and she forced her eyes opened to see who it was.

She recognized her. Ruby, that was her name. "Like a pen." she explained. "Here." she used her other arm to roll up the sleeve on her arm. On her upper arm was a scar that looked like some sort of celtic design. "Trace the design." unless Ruby had some sort of healing power, this was the fastest way to ease the pounding in her head.

She was alright.

But Cathy McDonald was gone. Taken somewhere...They...Whoever they were and in LA there was usually one big shiny corprate culprit. She nodded once, still focused on the girl, Cathy she couldn't help right now, this girl she could try to. She was alive and breathing so she was fine. Well, probably hurting. Probably a lot. But she wasn't in danger of death and she was handing her something while trying to sit up.

Trace a sigil?

"Can I?..." she asked forgetting to explain, the girl still came off as strange to her, she couldn't figure it out but Ruby felt she needed to ask. Had to specify... "I'm a demon. I don't know if...will it work?"

She didn't know why it wouldn't, but then she didn't know what the girl was that could heal herself with marks on her arm and she didn't want to do anything to make her feel worse.

She squinted her eyes slightly, looking at the woman again. Demon. Hm. Well, pretty demon Clary had ever seen. The ones from her world were various, slimy and usually smelled bad. Either way, she didn't think it really mattered who drew it. She'd seem werewolves use it and it still worked.

Clary began to shake her head slightly, but stopped. Bad idea. Wincing, she shut her eyes again. "Shouldn't matter." it was the power of the symbol being used on the right person. As long as the stele was on her skin and not someone else, it would probably just kill them.

"Just don't prick yourself with it." she didn't think a dot would do anything, it was the runes that had the power, and the one she had in mind would at least let her focus. It would reduce the cut, ease the pain in the heard. Though if she had a concussion of some kind, it wouldn't be strong enough for that.

It must have been complete luck that Ruby had found her when she did. Demon or not, Clary was pretty sure she'd never been so thankful to see someone she hardly knew.

She needed to get a hold of Lindsey. Clary couldn't do that without help at this point.

She listened to the instructions somewhat suprised still at Clary. The main instruction seemed to be about the stele. Don't get cut with it herself. Interesting and making her all the more curious about what this girl was but she was fine with that right now. There were other things to focus on.

"Alright so just draw the rune right?" she said, starting to trace along the skin drawing the shape she saw there. Not the strangest thing she'd ever done so she worked quickly and drew the symbol with the stele.

"So tell me what happened?. When you can I mean"

She looked around again at the even more ruined table and the signs of battle, not to mention the sword that had been dropped.

"So a fight?. Something took Cathy?"

Nodding only ever so slightly at Ruby, she kept her eyes closed, knowing the second the stele touched down. The took left a black line it its path, bringing the symbol forward, as if it were a freshly inked tattoo. The familiar burning sensation was becoming almost more soothing than painful now. When the rune was complete, the cut on her head stitched together, bringing it through a few stages of healing, though the red line was still there. The tension in her skull eased up, and her nauseous feeling subsided. Breathing in, she sighed. "Thank you." Clary said, before pushing herself into a upright position, using the wall to lean against.

"Yeah." she said with another small nod. "I was in my room. I heard a crash, it was probably the desk being flipped and the plant breaking, and I heard a scream."

When she took the stele back, she gripped it in her hands. The tool was quickly becoming like a security blanket to her. "So I grabbed my seraph blade." she tilted her head slightly, looking from the blade on the floor, then back to Ruby. Focusing on Ruby was easier, to she just gave the woman her complete attention.

"There were three demons. Big, curly horns, and one...human. I guess he was human, he looked it." she smiled slightly. "Though that might not mean anything. One of the demons had Cathy, they must have knocked her out somehow." she said, shutting her eyes briefly to recall the scene.

"I had to try and stop them." she said, though she knew that had been foolish. "I got one of them." she seemed slightly satisfied by the fact. The evidence of the kill was on the blade of her sword. "But then the other one got me." yeah, she was lucky to be alive. "...I think the human guy wanted to be gone fast, because he made the demon leave me, and so they dragged away the dead one, and Cathy."

Her bright green eyes focused on Ruby again. "I don't even know how they got in." she half whispered, the whole thing had been over in seconds.

Ruby watched the marked shift in the girls demenour just from what she'd done with the stele. It was unusual to say the least and maybe one day she would ask her how she had just done that.

"...Three demons and a human. Did he look like the ringleader, wanting to leave quick like that, leaving you alive...thats targetting. They wanted her."

She knew from experiance having been in and lead squads like that for Azazel back in the day. They'd come barging in, took Cathy and left satisfied, probably a bit suprised at the young girl with the sword. As to how they'd gotten in.

"The magic is waning here. I can feel it, the one that did its gone from LA and you need to be kept safe here. I was coming up to offer Cathy what I or any of the magic shop people can do to keep the Welcome Center safe. Whoever took her must have been watching."

She nodded once, raising her hand to touch her forehead where the cut was, it still stung a little. "Yeah, he was pulling the strings, that's for sure." she already had it figured that Cathy was the target. Otherwise they would have just killed them both. Or they would have taken her as well. She just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Or the right place, depending on how you look at it.

The magic was waning. Well that she hadn't counted on. What Clary did wasn't magic, that was a Warlocks job. She wouldn't mind having Magnus here right now. So demons had some tie to magic, where ever it was Ruby came from. That was both interesting and scary. Demons could be nasty enough without magic backing them up.

"So they knew it was fading." she stated, working out the situation in her still pounding skull. "And they wanted Cathy." well it didn't take her long to figure out who they could probably look to. She didn't have to be here long to figure it out. "Wolfram and Hart." she sighed, leaning her head back.

It made sense, leader, lackies, target. They'd been coming for Cathy and they'd gotten her because they'd probably been waiting for the chance.

"So targeted, and given who Cathy is...It can only be Wolfram and Hart can' it Did they say anything or was it just, y'know, smash and grab?"

The magic irritated her, it meant they'd been checking, probably doing the same with all the protections, she'd talk to people like Anya about that. See if something couldn't be done to increse the protections. "They'd have known...they probably kept people on it checking, waiting. Planned this long ago and took the shot when they could."

Ruby sighed slightly looking around before finally back to Clary.

"So what do you need to do? I figure we need to let people know about this, soon as possible."

"Smash and grab." she confirmed, pressing her fingers to skull again, this time wiping away the blood that was on her head, then holding her fingers out infront of her. Well, that was always a good sign. Guess there really had been a gash. "He didn't say anything useful." nothing past telling the demon to just leave Clary to her unconsciousness.

Clary flinched slightly at the idea. How had they not known about that sooner to get the wards stronger? Clary could have made her own protection had she known, and then maybe this never would have happened. Just wonderful.

Right, they had to tell people. AI was probably going to want to get right on this. But she could think of someone else who should know first. "Mister McDonald." she said flatly, before looking around. Was Cathy's phone still here? "I need to call him before you....activate the phone tree...or whatever contact whoever needs to be contacted." Cathy's husband had to know before anyone else.

Looking around, head swimming and vision going in and out of focus in the process, she spotted Cathy's purse. Telekinesis would be so useful right now. "His numbers probably in her purse." she explained, before attempting to move to her feet to get it. The whole room began to spin, so she placed her hands on the wall for balance.

Ruby's eyes followed Clary first to the blood which she looked away from almost as quickly still mostly curious as to what the girl was and then to the purse across the room where it must have been dropped. "No, you stay where you are" she insisted and with a shift of focus to where it lay, across the room the purse slid quickly across the floor landing in the demons waiting hand. She passed it to Clary.

"You're right, he should know first, you do that and I'll let them know on the boards. I can get to it on my cell"

Sam had taught her how it could work through her phone when she'd gotten it, she watched Clary dial and set to work, occasionally glancing up to make sure they weren't caught off guard. She didn't think they would be. This place hadn't been the target, its creator had.

She didn't argue, she really just didn't have the energy or concentration to argue, so she slid back down the wall, keeping her head back against it. "Okay." she said, sounding more relieved at the idea that she didn't have to move.

Clary watched the purse come sliding across the floor, and one eyebrow arched. "I've definitely never met a demon like you." she said as she reached for the phone. Clary didn't know who would be more dangerous. Both, in their own ways.

"This may sound stupid, but it's honestly confusing me. If you're a demon, why are you helping me?" weren't demons...well, not in any way interested in helping? That could very well just be a stereotype from her world, much how vampires were sort of different from home than they were here, and how Angels were different.

Flipping open the phone, she held it steady in both hands, and close to her face as she located Lindseys number, hit the button and set to work.

Ruby worked on her message and waited till Clary had finished her short conversation with Lindsey that had probably ended with him on his way to where they were now. Once the girl was finished Ruby let herself answer the question asked.

It was a fair question.

"I'm not from around here. In my world I guess we have other powers, other beliefs, agendas. I'm helping cause...well a while back I screwed up pretty irreversibly. Did something to some people, one in particular, that is unforgiveable. And yet I'm still here, getting a chance to make things better, to try make up for it. And if nothing else because its Cathy. And no I don't know her too well but she's done nothing to deserve this, not to anyone. She's pretty much one of the nice people in life. And she doesn't deserve this."

That said Ruby shook her head and stood finally.

"Want me to start seeing what I can do about the glass, you probably shouldn't move much till you get looked over by someone in the know about head injuries"

She listened to her explanation once Cathy's phone was snapped shut, her blank, impossible to read. She wasn't judging Ruby one way or another, she'd been curious. Her answer seemed reasonable enough. It threw her slightly, a demon feeling bad for what she'd done. But again, new world, new rules, so what did she really know? "You're right." Clary said with a sigh. "Cathy's the last person to deserve this."

Having lived here since she arrived, Clary had become very fond of the woman. She was always kind to her, she didn't do anything to anyone to deserve this. They had to get her back.

"If you have the time." Clary said, looking at the mess. "Lindsey will be here soon, but if you could get that glass....you'd be a life saver." right about now she couldn't picture herself getting out a broom to do some sweeping. She'd try, but Clary figured she'd probably just fall over in the process.
