Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:jacen solo, xander harris (future plot)

WHO: Jacen Solo and Xander Harris (future)
WHAT: Badness, lots of badness
WHEN: After Xander's message
WHERE: The address Xander specified
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

Jacen was more relieved than anything else when he received the message from Xander. In all honesty, he was worried about his friend- and he was still Jacen's friend, even this future version. He had still been the best man at Jacen's wedding. So much had happened to change him and Jacen truly did want to do what he could to help.

Even play poker.

Maybe even without mindtricking the dealer. Maybe.

He signed out of the Hyperion, as was protocol, even if he didn't have a chance to send any message to Tenel Ka or Allana, who were probably off doing something girly, to let them know where he was going. It would be easy enough, he reasoned, to open a link through the Force to them if he was going to take too long. The main thing was seeing what he could do to help this version of his friend.

As ever, his own presence was closed off in the Force, and with no immediate dangers around, he didn't bother stretching his senses out. Instead, he just wandered to the address specified, at the time requested.

When Jacen arrived, Xander was there waiting. Hands folded behind his back, shoulders squared, eyes set on the path ahead, he stood quietly at the edge of the street in which they had agreed to meet. He wasn't feeling terribly confident about what he was doing to the man he had once claimed to be a friend, but it was a necessary move in order to ensure the safety of their future. Their future, his friends. A few lives were worth it. It was the bigger picture that mattered the most, after all, and Xander wasn't about to see it shattered into chaos. Again.

"Jacen." A strained smile crept it's way across Xander's face as he approached the man. Dressed in uniform, he stepped forward and extended a hand for Jacen to shake. "It's nice to see you."

It was. This was the first time that Xander had seen him face to face in years. While he was doing something that he was, without a doubt, going to be ashamed of, he also felt a sharp touch of emotion at being able to see him again after all this time. It was almost as it was with Buffy. A part of him wanted to tug him over for clap on the back; a handshake was so cold and foreign for two people who were friends.

It seemed so strange to try to reconcile the soldier standing in front of him with the only man in the universe who could get away with calling the former Sith Lord 'Jackie'. They truly seemed like such different people. But then Jacen Solo, formerly known as Darth Caedus could hardly argue that sometimes events couldn't change a man so completely as to make him unrecognizable. He just hoped there was still something of the Xander he used to be inside him.

He shook the offered hand with a smile more relaxed than the one offered to him. It was hard to resist the urge to open up his senses somewhat, but he managed. He wanted to help Xander and simply diving into his mind and taking the easy answers would not be the way to do that. Some subtlety was needed, even if it took longer.

"It's good to see you too," and it was, good to have the opportunity to talk to him more in person. "How are you? In this version of Los Angeles I mean."

"I'm adjusting, as I said." The streets were cleared through, save for a couple walking down the sidewalk ahead. That wouldn't do, but Xander could work with it. He tilted his head sideways, motioning toward an alley to his left. "If I remember correctly, we don't start up the gambling for kicks thing until later in my timeline. Or do you remember that Roddie owns the old stint down here?" He was making it up. All of it was fake. But Jacen couldn't have possibly known. There were still a few good months between now and the future attack beginning for he and Jacen to realistically get into something like that here in the city. It would do for now.

Hands sliding back behind him, Xander resumed his prior stance and watched him closely. He had to play this the right way, otherwise Jacen would realize he was being duped and Xander would lose everything.

Failure was not an option.

Adjusting. It wasn't the best word in the world. Jacen hoped that he would have the chance to make things better for him, actually help Xander get back some of what he had lost, maybe not in his friends, but in himself.

"I'm afraid not," he smirked slightly. "I guess it must happen later in the timeline than this. Still, it's no reason we can't start now."

He eyed Xander's stance, with a faint grin. "Relax Xander. You are allowed to relax you know."

Xander hardly relaxed. He did force another false smile, however. "Wonderful. I think you'll find that you're going to enjoy it very much. It was always a good way to get away from the stresses at home when we both needed a break." He tilted his head, gesturing toward the alley again. "Right this way." He waited for Jacen to start walking before he followed him, keeping close behind but not enough to be directly by the man's side.

"The second time we played here, there was a brawl in this alley. It was funny, actually - Roddie took off his shoe and started beating one of the dealers upside the head with it for cheating out one of his patrons." Xander slid a hand into his pocket and kept walking, fingers wrapping around a cloth that he had specifically tucked away there before his arrival.

Jacen shrugged, clearly more relaxed than Xander as he hoped to lead by example. Maybe, just maybe, if he acted like this was just a poker game with a friend, then Xander would remember what it was like to have fun. "I'm all for getting away from stress," he smirked. "Not that I am in any way referring to my wife and daughter as stressful, just so we're all very clear on that." Tenel Ka would do the glare if she thought he was implying that.

"So I'm guessing I should try mind tricking the dealers then?" He grinned cheekily, glancing over his shoulder a moment at Xander before he looked back in the direction he was walking. "Or is that how we made our money in your time?"
