By the time she rounded the corner, Megan was gasping for air and all by dragging Natalie behind her. The eight year old's little legs could hardly keep up with Megan's much longer ones, and she felt guilty for pulling Natalie behind her, but sometimes you had to do what you had to do.
"Cas is going to freak." She groaned. Dad is going to freak.
It wasn't the most novel idea, a Winchester trying to steal a car, but getting caught? Well Megan couldn't remember the last time she had seen that happen. Though she had never hotwired a car by herself, she remembered seeing Dean doing it one time when he broke his keys off in his baby's ignition and he had to go to his garage and get a part, and thought she had most of the components down. However, what took Dean all of two seconds on his baby, which he knew as well as the back of his hand, turned into ten awful minutes of sweating and trying to remember which thing she was supposed to do first, and inevitably she and Natalie got caught. What followed was a foot chase that left them both dodging around crowds, racing down alleyways and through stores and trying everything they could to get away from the huffing, irate middle aged car owner.
"I think we lost him." Megan whispered, trying to make Natalie feel better. She had to be terrified. She was just a kid at 8, and Megan's niece to boot. She was Megan's responsibility, and she knew she needed to take good care of her so Dean and Claire wouldn't get their daughter back in pieces with a juvenile record...but for the life of her, all Megan could do was try to catch her breath and hope with all of her might for her Daddy. She might be a 'grown up' of fourteen, but at the end of the day, when she was frightened, she was just as prone to want her family near as anyone.
