WHO: Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne
WHAT: Fixing a communicator and getting reacquainted
WHERE: Wayne Manor
WHEN: Early evening
RATING/STATUS: PG, in progress

Although it wasn't right where she recalled it, to Diana the stately Wayne Manor looked exactly the same. Did Los Angeles alter things, as well, carving them to fit into what it needed? Peter and Sarah had called it a name...the Powers That Be. Diana knew the phrase, but had never heard it used to describe a real entity. Whatever this thing or things needed, apparently that included the manor along with Bruce Wayne.

Eight months. With a little research, she figured out that this Bruce had arrived shortly after she'd disappeared. Silently, she prayed that it wasn't in response to her own departure, in case that meant her rearrival would have the opposite effect. No, perhaps it was just that these Powers needed both of their expertise. And at eight months, he was the Batman who had been here the longest. What were the others? Close but not right for what Los Angeles needed?

She had no car, so she'd flown there, silently, landing far enough away that she could smooth her hair and the simple pantsuit she wore. Going to the front door meant civilian clothes; showing up as Wonder Woman would only draw attention to playboy Bruce Wayne. In multiple ways.

Walking up to the enormous front door, she used the knocker to announce herself, idly wondering if Alfred was the same here. Surely, one couldn't have Wayne Manor without Alfred...

It was a blonde who shuffled in to answer the door. She self-consciously brushed a stray strand of hair away from her eyes, ran her palms down the front of her dress, took sudden notice to how loud she was chewing her gum and put a stop to it. With Alfred in Gotham where Bruce would prefer him to stay, she was one of the three employees trusted enough to be allowed to stay on the premises after sunset. Batman didn’t want to be bothered and she was good at letting him be. She could tame Terry with sandwiches and she could tend to the wounds that needed tending to. She could answer the door without asking a million questions and gawking simultaneously.

That was good enough for him. It gave her worth and it made her a person that was needed. She took her job seriously and Bruce appreciated that. He was finicky when it concerned those who worked for him at night, in the manor that housed secrets that weren’t to be let out by anyone but himself.

She opened the door and stood aside, peering out at the woman who had used the knocker that she thought looked too ancient to still be there. “Mr. Wayne’s waiting for you. Come in and I’ll show you to him, Miss.” There was a hint of the south in her voice, a politeness that was difficult to come across these days. There was nothing aggressive about her. She left that part to her boss, and to the British butlers that Terry had no affection for.

Although brief disappointment flitted across Diana's features for a moment, she put aside her thoughts of Alfred and instead smiled politely at the young lady. The blonde was unfamiliar, but Diana had become used to that in this alternate reality, where things were almost right but never quite complete. Likely anyone else who spent time with Bruce would assume very impolite things about young blondes who answered the door for him, but it wasn't in Diana's nature to speculate about that.

"Thank you," she merely said, stepping inside and waiting until the woman closed the door and started to lead her to where Bruce waited. In truth, Diana was so familiar with the manor that she likely could have found him on her own just as quickly, but she understood, as royalty, the use of decorum.

All the same, the halls only reinforced her slight apprehension, knowing that no matter how they looked, they weren't the same as the manor back in her world. It remained to be seen how different Bruce would be as well.
