WHO: Wonder Woman and Robin
WHAT: Re-arriving...much to her surprise
WHERE: Top of the Bradley building
WHEN: Late evening, Thursday
RATING: It's Wondy. It'll be G. Maybe PG.
She had left Themyscira for the last time, although she certainly wasn't planning on it being for Los Angeles. No, she'd left because she had finally broken with her mother and her sisters, over Zeus' latest, most offensive, most unacceptable decree. It left her untethered, without home or family, but....but the alternative was worse. If Zeus had his way, she and her fellow Amazons would have set down their weapons and gone into exile, disguised as peace. Exile where Diana was forbidden to continue her mission to help those in Man's World. She wouldn't, couldn't, do that. Not when so many people were still in desperate need, each and every day. She wouldn't leave that burden to her friends and companions to shoulder on their own. Bruce, Clark, Dinah, Ollie...Cassie and Donna...no, she wouldn't do that, just because Athena was gone and Zeus had decreed that his all-male army would take the Amazon's place.
The others...they'd had to accept. To defy their god was unthinkable. Had the outside world changed her so much, that she alone could do so? She alone refused Zeus' orders and she alone left Themyscira, no longer an Amazon.
Of course, she had headed for her ambassadorial house in Boston. True, she'd lived in the United States only a decade or so, but she knew full well that Boston was on the East Coast, and this most certainly wasn't Boston. Not with the ocean to her west.
The building under her feet was familiar. Just unexpected. She was standing on the Bradley building, a multi-story office building she'd purchased from Bruce Wayne....a Bruce Wayne that hadn't known her, when they were both stranded on an alternate Earth. On that Earth, they had been fictional heroes from a comic book. That Bruce Wayne's home Earth hadn't had a Justice League, or superpowered people of any kind, but he'd thrown his lot in with her, and others from different worlds; Clark, Kara, Bart, Ollie. None of them had known her. It had been...lonely.
But if this was that same reality, she had been brought back. Why? She thought she'd helped Ollie start the Justice League for his reality, and left them with what legacy she could. In her own dimension, she'd done all she could for the Amazons. Perhaps that was it...since she was done with her home, this world may have needed her once more. And if that was the case..
Feeling in her belt, she wasn't surprised to find the old communicator the Bruce she'd last met had given her. Still, apprehension lingered as she brought it up. If the same amount of time had passed, everyone else she knew could have gone, to be replaced by other versions of themselves. Even Bruce had disappeared and returned three times, each time another person from yet another Earth. None had known her. The realization that there were that many alternate worlds in which they were not friends had been humbling.
She had not come so far to be cowardly. Resolutely, she clicked the communicator on. "Wonder Woman to JLA," she spoke, even and clear. "Please...respond."
