Who: Jack, Sam, and Sky
What: awkward times are awkward.
When: after Tori and Alyssa visit. Later in the evening.
Where: Memorial hospital.
Warnings: Erm..TBA? Who knows. :s

It was getting late, Sky still wasn't back. No word from Sam. He'd assumed that meant he couldn't be found. Jack was trying to be good and stay put but he didn't know how much longer he could really stand it. Where the hell was he? Was he that upset? He knew he'd freaked him out pretty bad, and he couldn't really blame him for being pissed but still. Jack wished he'd come back. Wanted him there..needed him there. He was seconds away from pulling free of the obnoxiously steady beeping heart monitor behind him when a nurse came in to change the bandage one more time and watched him with a confused, skeptical eye as he was half out of bed.

Jack grinned innocently and tried to swat at the air as if there had been a fly or something that he was reaching for and the woman shook her head. "I thought you weren't going to give us anymore trouble M.R.Landors." She spoke evenly and looked a little stern but it was only half hearted. Nobody liked being cooped up in a hospital, but Jack had been more than a handful. He'd tried countless tricks in attempt to escape or get doctor release already she thought he couldn't possibly have anymore left. But apparently he figured out the last one he needed was just to get free of the I.V. drip and heart monitors holding him down.

The red ranger didn't do good at places like this. He was trying, he really was. But the worry was eating away at him. "Won't happen anymore, really. Scouts honor." He still had a few more ideas up his sleeve. Good thing he wasn't a scout. The woman went about her job once he settled back and let her work, the wound had torn open a little, but the nurse was good and fast. Restitched with little effort, and re bandaged the area. "Now stop moving around so much or you'll have to stay here another week." She threatened lightly and was on her way out. Jack just frowned and sank into the sheets. Two days he'd been there..it was worse than prison. T.V. wasn't keeping his attention anymore. It was on in the background, but there was a restless look in his eyes. He had to find Sky. This was like torture. Ever since Sky left last night, that was the only thing he could think of. The only thing on his mind.

He was told to make sure that his friend kept still. That was the first thing that Sam Winchester heard when he asked for Jack's room number. Faintly amused at the image of Jack trying to squirm his way out of the hospital with a team of nurses holding him down, Sam promised to keep the younger man in check before following the directions out to the room. The only thing that he appeared to be carrying with him was his case for his laptop. A simple enough thing for a person to be tugging into a hospital - even if, by default, it didn't have what was supposed to be on the inside of the case there. Sam had been rather hesitant about stuffing fast food in his precious laptop space, but he felt that it was for the greater good - Jack's greater good, anyway - so he went ahead and cringed his way through the painful process of organizing the grease ridden foods inside.

Carrying the bag in his hands, Sam gave the doorway to Jack's room a light knock before he stepped inside. A polite smile immediately forced its way in Jack's direction, soon followed by a heavily concerned look.

"Hey, man," he started, moving into the room, "how are you feeling?"

Oh he'd tried that already. It failed rather quickly considering the physical condition he was in. But the point was he tried. He was pretty easy to subdue at the time being. Still a little loopy from pain medication, but grateful for it all the same. There were still a few food trays left over by hospital personal in hopes that he might actually eat it. No chance that was happening. It was a miracle he was still there at all. Even considering he'd damn near died two days ago he didn't want to be there. He could take care of himself, the only reason he did this was for Sky. He was trying to make the right moves, trying to reassure him that he didn't have a death wish and he knew what he was doing. It was hard and heart breaking. He didn't understand how he was supposed to react to his partner. He was between a rock and a hard place. It was all starting to hurt his head-but then there it was. Just the distraction he needed and he offered a lopsided grin at his friend in the doorway.

"Better but still alot like I've been stabbed. I thought blaster burns were the worst. I was wrong...so wrong. Hey is that grease I smell? " He said trying to keep the humor in his voice. He was trying to keep a good attitude about everything, but behind it there was hurt. Fear. It was a hospital..he was scared of them.

A sympathetic wince was given in response to Jack's response. "You wanna explain what happened a little more in detail to me?" Sam grabbed onto one of the nearby chairs and dragged it over to the empty space next to Jack's bed. He paused before sitting down, prying open his laptop case to reveal the bag of fast food that he had hidden away on the inside. "Definitely grease. You ask, I deliver."

He placed the bag on the table beside the bed and settled into the chair next to Jack's bed. He took a moment to examine the interior of his laptop case, looking less than pleased about the fact that he had to put food anywhere near the space that he had put his most valued personal object.

Frowning, he set the case aside, clasped his hands in his lap, and leaned forward to look Jack over. "You look like shit," he commented, the grin that followed showing that he was joking. He was trying to stay lighthearted. Easygoing. Sam hadn't really seen Jack in a while. Not before his big demon blood secret had been discovered. He regretted it now, especially since he had to visit Jack in a hospital room.

Sky wasn't trying to upset Jack. Or at least he didn't mean to. He just needed time to deal with the fact that Jack seemed to have a death wish. So, while Jack was in the hospital, Sky slept after the hospital. He was just so drained. There was a sick moment when he woke up where he thought about rolling over and go into a coma.

But that would be un-Sky. With Jack having lost his mind, there wasn't room for Sky to start losing it either. So, Sky did what he did best: he cleaned and made sure everything was neat and up to regulation. Twice. Eventually, though, he knew he had to go back. He wasn't cruel. So, after venturing into the horror that was Jack's room, he gathered some clothes for his friend. Something told him he would probably want to wear some pants. Clean underwear. Stuff like that.

If Sky had moved on and wasn't still pissed off, he might have brought Jack's favorite meal with him. But Sky wasn't feeling too nice at the moment. Once he arrived, he sat outside of his room for a few moments, trying to decide whether or not just to give the nurse his clothes or go in. Sky didn't regret anything he said. Truthfully, how Jack felt at the moment rated a little low on his Like I Give A Shit Meter. He just wasn't sure if he could look at Jack the same.

Taking a deep breath, he stood up and entered the room.

"Oh," he said as he entered seeing Jack with a friend. "Sorry," he said. "I'll leave."

"Your the best. Hey if that hunting gig of yours craps out you've got a promising future in the art of secret food delivery. Safe and sound and under thirty minutes..." Jack paused as he peered into the bag and hungrily went for the burger. "I could have been hallucinating but you know I think I watched a cartoon about that last night. Secret delivery ninjas." He offered a grin in return and teased. At least he could say he was feeling a little physically better. Mentally was a whole 'nother story. But just saying it was at least a step in the right direction. "What're you talking about Sam, it's the latest trend didn't you know? Better catch up on the times, dude." He shifted uncomfortably in bed and pulled some more of the blankets up. "I can't offer you pizza we talked about last week, but I can give you pudding and muffins. In that order. " He mused, he was glad to have the company. It seemed like forever since he last saw Sam. He wasn't really in the mood for serious discussion, so at least Sam didn't have to worry about the demon blood issue coming up. It helped that again Jack didn't have the words for the situation. He honestly didn't know what to say. He was sure when he did come up with something good, it would be an awkward conversation. This was quite possibly one of the few times he was happy to be king of the procrastinators.

Looking up at Sam he put the half eaten burger down in thought and tried to pull everything together. The fight itself was still hazy. It was quick. "There must have been six of them, if not more. They were in uniforms looked kinda like soldiers, or Nazis. More like Nazis..they might have killed me if I didn't play dead." He corrected as he chewed at his lip and looked down at his phone beside the bed distantly. Sky hadn't called. Sam hadn't found him. It was tearing at the ranger. He just didn't know how to fix things. If he could fix them. For a moment there he'd zoned out, watching a minute change on the face of his phone. Distracted until he heard a familiar voice and he froze. Sky.

He was leaving again. God..Jack hated the tension. He hated the distance between them. He hated that Sky thought he'd forgotten everything. He had to do something or he was going to leave again and Jack was going to feel that pain again. "Sky wait. Stop." He tried his best 'I'm red ranger this is an order-voice'. "You don't have to go. This is Sam. Sam, Sky. " He wasn't really good at intros, but maybe if he just kept talking he'd get lucky and finally say something right.

Nazi demon soldiers. This place had everything swimming around in it, didn't it? What next? Confederate vampires? He'd add Nazi soldiers to the list of things to look for in his research. Sam wasn't the best part of the team as far as all of the information seeking went, but it was a task that made him feel useful. He was trying to become part of a team again. Working with people, being semi-social. The outing here with Jack was actually the first outside of going for ice cream with Ben that he had accomplished thus far. It was a well worth reason to throw himself out of his cramped room. Jack was his friend. When a friend was in the hospital, that generally meant that it was time to stop holing oneself away and up and face the world for the bitter, unpleasant place that it was.

"I think I might have read something abou -" His voice trailed off at the sound of a third voice. Lifting his eyes from Jack, Sam turned to see an unfamiliar face wander into the room. It didn't take very long for Sam to realize as to who it was that had shown - Jack's introductions saw to that. Rising from his chair, he extended a hand in Sky's direction and tried for a friendly smile. "It's good to finally meet you. Jack often talks about you."

Sky stiffened and wore a thin smile. "Nice to meet you," he replied and shook the man's hand. He stood there for a few moments, feeling the tension in the room intermingled with first meet awkwardness and held up a brown bag. "Clothes." Pause. "For Jack. Figured he'd need something about now before he tried peekaboo with the nurses."

Sky should probably relax and not seem so off-putting but Sky wasn't exactly comfortable meeting new people in a hospital room. It was bad juju. Sky wasn't exactly a fan of hospitals, either. Bad things happened here. He held out the bag as if he expected Sky to take it, but it only lasted about half a second before he placed it onto a chair.

"Didn't mean to intrude," he said. "I'm sure you two have a lot of catching up to do." Sky was just talking at this point. Jack hadn't really told him much about his friends. People, statistically, tended to come together when someone was in the hospital. Especially people who hadn't been around. It was a guilt thing. Of course, he didn't know that whether or not Sam was one of those friends either.

Jack just frowned. The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife once the other ranger came in "Thanks Sky. " What else did he say? Letting the two talk for a minute he looked away towards the single window on the other side of the room. His arms carefully folded over his chest in attempt not to touch the wound or anywhere near it. The area was sore and tender. The doctors had been easing back on the pain medication to see how well he gradually handled it and test when he'd be able to go home per his requests. So far so good. There were only moments when it hurt like hell, but they eventually passed. Now was one of those moments.

He was almost grateful for the distraction-even if it meant a searing pain. It would pass, he wasn't sure whatever going on between them would anymore. Sky spoke again and he just sighed. Jack was getting tired of walking on pins and needles. How many times could he admit the stupidity of his ways? He was trying to do the right thing. Trying to show Sky he still had the ability. He stayed in the hospital despite that it terrified him. He tried to be more agreeable and let the doctors work but once again it seemed to be backfiring on him and he just didn't have the energy. He was tired and wanted to go home. Sky could hardly look at him. What would it take? Jack was frustrated and just was quiet until the pain passed and he looked up at the other ranger.

"Stay?..please."

The awkward silence in the room that followed was really painful to endure. Sam glanced between the two younger men and frowned. Jack had said that things had been bad, but this bad? Really? "Uh..." Of all the things that the demon blood addict wanted to do with his time, it was far from standing in the middle of...well, whatever this was. He shot Jack a worried look before taking a few steps back and shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans. "Right. I think...maybe I'll go get a cup of coffee?" They had stuff a few floors down in the cafeteria. He could make a round trip, give the two time to talk, then come back up in hopes of things being less tense? Yeah, okay. The way things were looking now, Sam didn't know how things could actually lighten up at all between them.

"I'll be back in a few." Sam glanced over at Sky. "And I think that the nurses mentioned something about the importance in him having company right now. It's the meds that he's on. They make him kinda..." He put a hand to his head before drawing it away and waving it in the air. "If you know what I mean. So if you could stick around until I got back, that'd be great."

That was a lie. Or at least Sky was fairly sure that Sam was a big fat mutant giant liar. His jaw set and he wore a thin smile as he crossed his arms with a nod. "Better go," he said, eyes narrowing slightly but not entirely so that it seemed unfriendly, "wouldn't want it to get cold, now would it?" He quirked a brow slightly as his eyes shifted their focus from Sam to Jack.

He waited for Sam to make his exit, of course, and took a seat in the chair and took a deep breath. They'd eventually have to talk and this might as well be it considering Jack nearly died. Sky knew he was being antagonistic at the moment, but could anyone blame him? Yes he was aware that his friend just nearly died. He was there. He saved him. But he was allowed to be pissed at him for even putting himself that position in the first place. There wasn't a Get Out of Jail Free Card for nearly getting yourself killed.

At least not in Sky's book.
