Who: Claire Bennet & Spike
What: Claire's testing her abilities again
Where: Spike's Club
When: 9pm 25th July
Rating: TBD
Status: In Progress

Claire wasn't carded when she finally arrived at the club. She'd signed out of the Hyperion like she was supposed to, had done everything all above board and would answer if anyone called her, unless she was in the cage. It was probably a stupid plan, idiotic. Dangerous, all of the above but it was what she had decided to do. She'd go, and she'd fight and if they killed her she'd be aware when they did, see did she feel anything, because sometimes, there was a moment, a single moment, when she felt. The moment she died.

She ordered a coke, she wasn't about to drink she wasn't really big on it and she was in Spike's club, she knew there were rules. She had the money in her purse ready to hand over to Spike once she found him. If she found him, all manner of creatures some demon some not looked oddly at the little blonde in their midst. But then looks were decieving weren't they.

"Is Spike around?" she asked the barman when he returned with her drink. "I was told to be here at nine"

The barman looked oddly at her, nine? Did the kid think she was getting in the cage?

Claire took her drink and looked out over the floor with a close grip on her purse, Stupid, stupid plan. But the only one she had.

It was not the first time that Spike had accepted someone from the younger crowd into his club, nor was it the first that he had allowed one into the ring. The fact that the little girl was part of Petrelli's crew only made the entire process that much sweeter. Fuck yeah, Spike enjoyed pissing them off. It was a fun hobby. Almost as good as stealing candy from children. Not that he did that. Ever.

...much.

"Lookie here. The cheerleader makes an appearance." A few minutes after her question and Spike was moving across the inside of the bar, distractedly shuffling through the shelves for a bottle of vodka. "Didn't think you'd show, shortstuff." He popped the bottle open and took a swig right out of it. The burn was a welcome feeling.

Sarcasm. Yeah he really seemed to not care that she was here, or doing this. And that was fine with her. Most people would talk her out of it but it wasn't all that different to dying time and again just to see what she could take. It was only recently Peter had stopped her letting a train hit her after all.

"The Cheerleader does. You can announce that if you want. People won't expect a Cheerleader to be able to fight them. I'm gonna want this back with interest" she told Spike, reaching into her purse and lifting out the wad of cash she'd gotten from her account earlier. It was all there.

"Told you I'd show, and I keep my promises" she said, it wasn't to be rude or anything like it. It was just true. She wanted to get this started, feel something. Anything would do.

"People won't expect a cheerleader running around these parts at all," Spike responded dryly. True enough. Not unless they were there for a purpose that had nothing to do with fighting in those cages at all. It was usually to make a few quick bucks with a lucky man. Sometimes even woman. Most times more than people would think, actually. Smirking, Spike took another swig from his bottle and dropped it onto the counter. He then reached for the bundle of money, flipped through it, and shoved it into his pocket before moving around the bar and gesturing for her to follow him out to the floor.

A match was just finishing up. Spike guided Claire off to a large demon in a leather studded shirt and pointed to her.

"This one. Put her in for the next round." The demon hesitated. Spike clapped a hand to his back and leaned toward him, keeping eye contact. "I said do it." A nod was given before Spike retreated to Claire's side.

"You sure about this, kidlet?"

"All the better for me then right"

She took a gulp of her coke before setting it down and moving to follow Spike across the floor, he wasn't waiting or questioning beyond what he'd said already, that was good at least. He had his money. That was that.

She still wasn't used to demons like this, the guy was huge. Still the worst her opponents could do would be to kill her. And that was sort of the plan.

Next round. That was fine. Better than fine.

"Very sure." she told Spike, all humour and lightheartedness gone from her eyes. She was ready, hell she was looking forward to it. She watched the bloody demon walking victorious around the cage and nodded to Spike and the other demon.

"Put me in"

The other demon, the one who had won out the prior fight, declared that he was more than willing to take on the little blonde. Spike waved a hand at them and watched casually as the door lifted. "Your funeral," Spike told her, leaning back against one of the barriers that separated the crowd from the ring. "Don't say I didn't warn you. And if you cry, I'm not taking the blame for it when Peter and Nathan come knocking at my door."

He was more than happy to do something that would piss them off, but if they came at him with pitchforks and irritating holy water, Spike was going to say he had nothing to do with it. Nothing. At. All.

"Go on."

The demon inside paced the cage, looking more than amused at the concept of beating up a small child. Ha!

"Peter and Nathan don't know. None of my family know"

Claire cast a final grateful gaze at Spike and stepped into the ring facing off against the ugly demon thing. It could have been a good guy for all she knew, could have been a kitten eating demon, could have been a psycho. Either way it would fight her.

She decided to let it take the first swing, and it did, hard, shattering a bone in her jaw, she knew only cause of how it moved, she had felt none of it.

"Come on ugly" she taunted hitting it, she was trained by Faith so she did know how to fight hand to hand, but ability aside, Claire was human, and not like Niki. She was human. Just not very fragile. The demon soon realised her punches weren't really a threat to it and so fought back, hitting her, kicking her, throwing her against the wall.

Nothing.

Until one hit was too hard and her neck snapped, it was an unmistakeable sound, almost heard over the crowd, but Claire heard it, felt the moment she 'died' and for a moment she was still.

But then her eyes opened, she raised her hands caked in blood from wounds that had already healed and readjusted her neck.

"Not that easy" she told him and moved forward again.

The next few rounds passed a similar way, the demon getting more and more tired, Claire obviously didn't want to kill him, it was pointless to kill him. She'd hopefully tire him out eventually, he'd killed her four times.

And that moment...it made it worth it.

Spike was in serious doubt about Claire's ability to hold her on here in the fight. Yes, the girl could take a hit, but could she deliver? The crowds wanted to see some action, not the special girl with the freakish abilities that would confuse the hell out of everyone. If he had not felt this way, he would have retreated back to the bar. But, because he was a bit concerned about the entertainment and perhaps a tiny bit about the girl in question, Spike chose to lurk instead.

And, as predicted, he did not like what he saw.

The first time, he didn't mind. The second, he decided that it was an accident and that she'd come back from it. But when it was nearing the fifth, Spike let out a low growl of irritation and pushed his way past the security team and into the ring.

Immediately grabbing Claire by the shoulder, he yanked her back and pointed to the floor. "Out. Now."

The demon on the other side didn't seem to appreciate that. He had been putting on a show for the fans, after all. "She's mine," he roared, "she's signed for a match! She has to finish! Put her -"

He didn't get a chance to finish that sentence. Spike stepped forward and, in a series of quick and easy movements, punched the demon back, sent him flying into the cage wall, and snapped his neck.

"There," he declared, "problem solved." With the crowd silent, Spike moved back over to Claire and pushed her out of the ring. "Throw someone else in," he muttered, nudging the girl away and toward the back room before she had a chance to protest.

She could do it, she could wear him down, tire him out, it was long and it was arduous but it was something exhilarating even. She could keep this up all evening. Would have too if a hand hadn't grasped her shoulder and pulled her away. No, no that wasn't fair. She'd paid same as everyone else. That wasn't fair.

"What!, Why!, I didn't loose and he was getting slower and..."

Protests seemed to fail as Spike snapped the demons neck by punching him into the cage wall before pushing her forward toward the back room, he couldn't do this. That wasn't fair. If nothing else she'd wanted to win her money back. And feel that rush again. Feel something properly again.

She didn't have much of a choice with being pushed into the back room but as soon as they were somewhere more quiet Claire whirrled on the vampire furiously.

"Why'd you pull me out?"

"Because you're an idiot." A simple enough explanation, wasn't it? He shoved the door shut behind them and leaned back against it, arms folding over his chest. The only way out was through him and judging from the way that Claire had held up in that ring Spike was more than willing to bet that she wouldn't be getting very far if he tried. Temptation to throw her out the door aside, Spike was very curious as to why she thought that it would be useful to her in any way to let someone beat her down like that.

"You don't come in my club and make with the suicidal bullshit," he growled, pushing away from the door and advancing toward her furiously. "Able to come back from the dead or not, you get in that ring and you FIGHT. You don't fucking stand around and let the opposing party KILL YOU FOUR TIMES!"

Blocking the door. Lovely. Still it was Spike, and much as he complained about it he was a good guy. She'd never been in any real danger, thats why she'd come here, not enough to alert anyones attention.

"It wasn't suicidal. As it happens I like my life for the most part, family, friends, a job, training, a position in AI. I don't want to die, thats not why I'm here"

How could she explain this? In any real way how could she put it into context.

"You get hit. It hurts right, you know you hurt. Now look at me. Not a scratch on me, like I never went in that ring and thats how I feel, didn't feel a thing, but four times. Every time I 'die' in there, theres a moment where the adrenline takes over from the numbness and I like it. Is that so wrong?"

She sighed "Besides he'd have tired out eventually and then I would have won my money back with interest. Its a tactic"

Oh fuck. Just what he needed. Blonde, cheerleader, wanting to feel something. Where had he seen this one before? Oh. Right. "Look, kid," he started, tugging a cigarette from his pocket. "You don't pull that shit in here. One? Because it's cheating. Two? Because I don't like it. Maybe I'd let the first one slide - well, all right, I definitely would, but that's beside the point - but if I don't like something? It doesn't happen. Not in my club." Spike lit up his cigarette and pointed to a chair in the corner.

It was time to lecture. Gee. Just what he wanted to do with himself tonight. Lecture a little girl about suicidal behavior. Whoo-hoo.

"Sit your perky little ass down. Now."

Cheating? She hadn't thought of it like that, not really, it had been a way to feel something, that was it. Nothing more than that. "I'm sorry" she told him "I didn't think it was cheating or anything. I wouldn't have..."

He confused her further by pointing to the chair, Perky little ass? She had officially just had a first. Never before had a lecture been begun with a comment about her ass but then this was Spike. And that kinda threw all the cards out the window. Or something.

"I won't do something like that again okay? Not in your club"

There were other ways, she'd used to record them with Zach way back when, then tried again only to have Peter pull her out of the trains path.

"Yes, you would have. Now sit down before I really get pissed off." It wouldn't take much more to do it either. Raking a hand through his hair, Spike puffed at his cigarette a few good times before he reached for a chair and dragged it beside the one that he had ordered Claire into.

"Physical pain is the problem, is it?" He shook his head and leaned back. "That's never healthy." His voice was a tad bit calmer than it was before. There was no yelling, at the very least. "However, it is a problem that can be solved. Ever try feeling in other ways? You could...get tossed. Have sex. Smoke weed. Normal things that kids your age do to get themselves off."

She sat. Unkillable or not. Scary vampire told her to sit and she sat looking actually fairly contrite for what she'd done. And maybe he was right, maybe she would have.

"Not the first time. I like...testing the limits sometimes, what I can do, what I can come back from. My ability used to hurt y'know, couldn't die, but it would still hurt. Then, before I came here, few weeks before, someone...did something to me. And now theres nothing"

Sex...drugs...

He really was Billy Idol Vampire and she went sutibly red at the talk of sex, she wasn't a prude or anything but talking about it to Spike so casually. But she wasn't sure.

"I've never done drugs, I...drank before, It doesn't really do much. I think it can if I do enough but..."

She looked down.

"And the other thing...there's no one."

"What'd they do to you then? Throw you in a lab, play around with you like a rat?" Spike tilted his head to the side, a single brow rising. "They didn't happen to put a chip in your head, did they? Because, hey, that would actually explain a lot." They could put one in that caused pain. Why not put one in that prevented it? That was logical. Spike had logic.

Spread out into the chair he had placed beside her own, Spike took another puff off his cigarette and offered it to her. "We can experiment, you and me. I've got a bit of time to kill tonight anyway, so get yourself comfortable, take a hit off of this, and we'll give that drinking thing a shot, eh?" He had plenty of booze. Hard liquor would make this kid a new woman with plenty of fun feeling.

No one? That was also something Spike could take care of. "There's a floor full of demons out there. A few humans, too, I'd say. I'm betting I could find someone out there willing to give it to you one good time. Maybe even a couple over, if you've got the energy for it."

"A Serial Killer came into my home, hunted me down and cut open my head while I was still awake to feel it and poked at my brain actually" she told him matter of factly, leaving out that it was a later version of the recently departed Gabriel Gray. "I think the lab might have been a more pleasent experiance, either way since then...I don't feel anything"

He offered her the cigarette and Claire looked at it bemusedly. Well it would hardly mess up her lungs.

One drag had her coughing, more from surprise than anything else. Also it tasted foul

"Why do people like this?" she asked, trying again slower this time, it was still gross. "And I'm not 21 yet" she added, she was 18 legal for pretty much everything but alcohol, she didn't want to get his club in trouble.

The random hook up though, no, that wasn't her.

"Its not...look...I know I'm pretty okay, blonde and a cheerleader. I could get someone if I wanted. But I don't want just...I'm not some kind of tramp but I'm not a prude either. I want to know the guy. Not saying it has to be the guy I marry but there has to be trust there. First guy that tried to have sex with me before I was ready killed me cause I fought back..."

She took another drag off the cigarette trying to figure out if it made her feel anything.

"...So I drove his car high speed into a wall with both of us in it" she confided. "So...trust, trust is key"

"Then maybe you need to have someone crack open that noggin of yours to find out what's wrong," he suggested. The girl got killed off by a serial killer, killed off by her boyfriend, and drove a car into a wall. She certainly had the best of luck, didn't she? Spike had his fair share of traumatizing experiences, but he was far from a little girl. Then again, when one looked at Buffy and all those other Slayers, they were young and had a lot on their plates too. Some of them went mad, others turned out all right. He didn't want the former to be an issue in Claire's case. She seemed like a decent kid, all perkiness and emoting aside.

"Different reasons," Spike commented on the cigarette. As for the age issue? "I'm running a fight club, cheerleader, do you honestly think we give a damn about legality?" She really was a bit daft if she did.

Rolling his eyes a bit, Spike listened to her talk on about how she preferred her men. "What? My word on a man isn't enough? I know plenty of trustwo -" Well, not really. "- I'm not saying you need to settle down and marry whoever you find. You've just got to lure him in for a quick screw and get out. You get your feelings, you get what you want, you get rid of the man who gave them to you. No attachments, no problems. Badaboom, you're done."

"I went in those Pit things when they were here...and it made my Power normal, like SBC's. Same as it used to be, so...whatever Sylar did to me he changed it, so maybe he's the only one who could change it back, or maybe its just new like that now."

She wanted off the topic of Sylar and her powers, the memories weren't pleasent. "How come you smoke? Just cause you think it looks cool?" she grinned slightly, maybe he had a point about legality. And anyway he was British and she was legal to drink there so that counted. And she was here, and her family wouldn't know, she'd sneak back into the hotel. It would be fine. "...Okay then...One drink, just one"

She actually laughed for the first time all night. How was a vampire giving her sex advice?, when had she become someone for whom a vampire had sex advice? "Badaboom huh? Its not about attachments. Its about knowing I can trust them not to...y'know, kill me, or hurt me or..." she shook her head "I know how it sounds, but its true. If you can find me someone like that then sure, I'd consider it, but I need to trust them some. Or I wouldn't enjoy it and isn't that sort of the point"

"Long story," Spike told her, shrugging. "Short version? I couldn't hold a cigar down when I was a human. Always tried it, never could get it right. Turned into a vampire, didn't have the problem with the hacking anymore. Now it's really habitual. Doesn't do too much to me." It was the alcohol that really hit the spot. If cigarettes did anything to him, it was nothing in comparison.

She agreed to a drink. Too bad they weren't going to stop there and he already knew it. Spike hopped up from his seat and strode over to the door. He poked his head out, barked out a few words to one of his nearby employees, then moved back across the room and flopped back into the chair. "This city is full of opportunity and magic and wonderful fairy tale things." Which usually turned sour. "You might be able to find something or another that could help you with all that brain stuff, you know. Doesn't have to be old crazy ass brain digger that you've got to look to." The serial killer. Whatever.

"You can trust my word, can't you?" He offered her a wide eyed look. "I'd never get you hurt, kid. Petrelli would kill me." Actually, they all would.

"I don't think its doing anything" she told him, looking at the quickly dwindling cigarette. "Its...just...being a cigarette. And people don't think they're as cool now there are like 3 places in the city you're still allowed smoke"

Maybe he had a point about the magic, she thought as he went to get whatever crazy ass drink he'd decided to start her on, but people had been looking into it. AI had been looking into it, but her brain was different now, Sylar had made it different. And she'd never felt comfortable with asking Gabriel. That could have ended way badly.

She was about to explain this when he told her she could trust him. With sincere face. There was sincere face.

Spike version anyway.

"You fail at that innocent face, you have to do it like this" she explained, pulling a perfect innocent face, she suspected it was her family history in Politics and the Company. She could lie well. But he had a point.

"Nathan would kick your ass and declare you more inappropriate than SBC's boyfriend, who I think he already suspects of being a bad bad influence."

She was really trying to teach him how to look innocent? Spike tried not to look too amused by it. He was supposed to be the cranky vampire after all. Didn't want to go off and ruin his good - well, bad - reputation with this kid. He was already putting a lot on the line merely by offering to talk with her about her issues. And helping. He was actually helping. But this was for one night and, in the future, if she ever asked about it he would claim that he had been bored. It wouldn't be about caring. Pshh, caring. Spike cared for nothing.

"No, see, Nathan would try to kick my ass. He would fail." Spike seemed amused at the idea of the old stiff even trying to have a go at him. Ha!

A light tap at the door indicated that their drinks were here. A demon stepped inside, juggling a bottle of tequila and a few glasses for them to drink out of. He dragged a small table over and set the items down before Spike ushered him off and pointed to the bottle. "Go ahead. Give it a whirl."

"Hey now Nathan's pretty badass you know. I wouldn't be entirely confident of your chances" she told Spike, defending her bio dad a natural thing for her to do and besides it distracted her from the drinks being brought in and the talk about her sex life, or distinct lack thereof

Tequila. That was tequila. She knew that much.

She poured shots of the drink into the two glasses and looked down at it for a moment.

And drank.

And there was a burn, not a painful burn but a pleasent tingly sensation more she suspected from warmth than anything it was doing to her insides. But she had felt it whatever it was, warmth. It was something. She smiled slightly looking across to Spike "It was warm" she told him.
