WHO: Sam Anders and OPEN! (Multiple threads welcome!)
WHAT: the life of a bar owner
WHEN: evening- 21st July
WHERE: the Lux
RATING: TBD
STATUS: OPEN- In progress

Despite it all, life was good. Even with former Cylon selves running around, and despite the bastard Jettise Solo running around and winding Mirta up, Sam Anders was pretty happy with life. He was with a woman he loved, and who loved him in return which was actually new for him. And there was their baby on the way. The doctor appointments had been going well, although Sam was wanting to get a second opinion as her pregnancy progressed, just in case of any hybrid complications. She was just starting to show, something that Sam was surprised to find out he absolutely loved.

The business was going well as well, the Lux bringing in good profits every single night. There were times he still missed the thrill of combat and flying, but that was far outweighed by the less of a thrill aspects of fighting for his life every day, and eating the rations of the Galactica. He'd take the quiet life of running a bar any day.

Well, usually quiet. Right now, it was looking like two groups of frakking idiots were gearing up to start a fight. Even with violence being impossible inside the club, fights could still brew and then explode the second they were outside of the sanctuary spells, something that was bad for business. Plus, even if punches couldn't be thrown, shouts and insults still could and that was just disturbing for other patrons.

Sam sighed and made his way from where he'd been refilling the spirits to the two groups.

"Alright, you kids want to take this somewhere else, or just calm the frak down?"

"What the man that controls the booze said," came another voice. Roy could be a rather imposing figure when he wanted to- which he was putting some effort in to doing right now. The table where he'd been trying to chat up one of the bar's female patrons had been right next to one of the rowdy groups, and their obnoxious shouting had made it very difficult. "Calm down or take it to somewhere that won't kick you out all on its own if you try anything stupid."

Man who controlled the booze, Sam liked that title. He smirked as he looked from Roy to the idiots with a faint 'what you gonna do' expression. The idiots themselves had gone from looking arrogant to doubtful, clearly looking at Roy as someone they possibly didn't want to piss off.

"Come on boys, don't make me get my girlfriend to kick your skinny asses out of here," Sam's smirk widened. He was more than capable of kicking them out himself, but it was always just funnier to see idiot men being drop kicked by a tiny woman like Mirta. There was a pause before they slunk out, metaphorical tails between their legs.

Sam turned to Roy with a grin. "Thanks man," he glanced behind him to the woman waiting, clearly eying up Roy. "You having a good night?"

"Aside from those morons ruining my shot with that blonde over there? Yeah, pretty good. Hell, send her a drink on me, anyway- I don't like giving up," she said, grinning a little. And then he saw a man come in and sit down next to said blonde, who greeted him with a kiss. "Okay, cancel that," he said, shaking his head. He checked the time on his cell phone. "I still have two and a half hours before I told the sitter I'd be home, so the night's still young."

Sam shot him a smile of sympathy as the blonde kissed the new man. "Tough luck, mate," he headed back behind the bar. "Still, two and a half hours, time to find a better one right?" He grinned easily. "You got a kid then?"

In two and a half hours, if he really put effort in to it, Roy could probably find more than a better one. Or so he liked to think. Still, he wasn't so cocky that he'd actually say that much. He just nodded, then went on to the second question.

"Yeah, little girl, five years old." There was a bit of pride that came up when even mentioning Lian. Okay, maybe more than a little. At least he wasn't digging out his wallet to show of pictures. Yet.

"Yeah?" Sam grinned widely. "What's it like, being a father in this city?" He was curious, new to the whole idea himself and facing the rather daunting task of raising a child himself.

"My partner's expecting a child," he couldn't wipe the smile off his face. "Due this winter. Very new experience for me."

"Congrats, man," Roy said, genuinely- the guy looked like he was happy about it. "It's... well. Stressful. And enough to make you lose half your usual hours' sleep, but... totally worth it. And it sounds like you won't be raising the kid alone, which is always a plus. Not that I'm alone alone, but Lian's mom's been out of the picture for a while. Either in jail or a fugitive or..." a wave of his hand. "Let's just say she's not Take Your Daughter To Work Day-friendly," he explained. "It changes the way you think. And live. And... just about everything."

"Thanks," Sam was still grinning, he couldn't help it, talking about Mirta and the baby just had that effect on him. "It wasn't something we were planning, but I can't say I'm not happy about it now." He paused before he smirked. "Just remind me I said that when the sleepless nights and the stress hits."

His expression gained some sympathy as Roy talked about Lian's mom. "You two split up badly or something?"

"You could say that," said Roy. "Jade and I had some philosophical differences. She thought it was okay to kill people for money... or fun... or both. Kinda clashed with my good-guy gig," he explained.

"Ah," Sam's eyes widened slightly as he nodded. "I can see why that would be an issue. Trouble with the bad girl thing right? Hot as all frak but they really can burn you if you get too close."

"Frak? I like that," said Roy, absently. "And you're right- I think they manufacture the bad ones extra-hot," said Roy in agreement. "Not that the good ones aren't bad either. Drop-dead gorgeous a lot of the time," his mind went to Donna. And Grace. And Kendra. And Huntress. Huh. "I think, maybe, I just have a thing for women who could wipe the floor with me if they wanted to."

"A swear word back home, I keep forgetting it's not common here," Sam smirked before he nodded with a rueful agreement. "You're not the only one, my ex wife was a Viper pilot and out out-drink, out-swear and out-fight any of the men in her squadron. And, well, my partner Mirta, tiny little thing," he gestured with his hand of Mirta's height, not quite up to his shoulders. "And she can wipe the floor with several men at once." He nodded with a wide grin. "It's so hot when she does that."

"Dated a girl on and off who could throw a car like it was made of Styrofoam. Amazonian- and I mean that literally, she was an actual Amazon, from Themyscira. Wonder Woman's sister, if that means anything to you," he said, grinning at the mention of hotness. "There's just something about watching a beautiful woman tear up a wall to take on a small army that's so utterly sexy. Men who get intimidated by the strong ones have no idea what they're missing, man."

Sam shook his head with a rueful laugh. "Wonder Woman, Amazonian, means nothing to me, sorry. But I get the gist on the strong women thing," a wide grin spread across his face. "I don't understand the men who get intimidated by strong women. They're incredible. I wouldn't trade Mirta for some quiet women for all the money in a thousand worlds." He paused and amended that statement. "And not just because she'd kick my ass half way around the galaxy if I tried."

"Whole island of warrior women," said Roy, smiling a little wistfully at the thought. "I don't think there are any quiet women in my line of work back home," he said. "But then, running around in tights or leather kicking ass isn't really the sort of thing a wallflower signs up for."
