Entry tags:kitty pryde, the tenth doctor

WHO: Kitty Pryde, NPCs, and OPEN
WHAT: Jogging, an attempted mugging, and some fancy footwork
WHEN: Late evening
WHERE: Somewhere in the city
RATING: lowish, but with some violence
STATUS: Incomplete

A pretty young woman, out jogging on her own at night in LA? Well, that was just a recipe for a mugging- in fact, that was just what Kitty had in mind. She'd been feeling a bit restless after a day spent monitoring hacked security feeds, so she threw on a pair of shorts and a tank top, and gone to pound the pavement a bit for an impromptu bit of patroling.

It only took her a few blocks before she heard a group of young men following her. They were laughing, elbowing each other as she slowed down, pretending to stop for a drink from a sports bottle. "You lost, baby?" one of them asked her as his friends circled around to surround her. "We can help you get home... for a price." More laughing, and one reached out to grab her in a choke hold.

When she simply passed right through him to stand facing his back, the guy cried out in shock. In a few quick, precise strikes to a few nerve clusters, she forced the man to the ground in a crumpled heap. She took out two of his friends in a similar fashion, using a mix of traditional Japanese techniques and Krav Maga. The last two ran for it- she let them go, shaking her head. "Maybe you should consider a new career path!" she called after them, picking up the knife that one of the fallen thugs had dropped. "You tried to mug me with a Swiss Army knife? Seriously?"

The Doctor had stopped by now on of his regular restaurants to grab something to eat in his way back to the TARDIS. A well made fish taco was always good for the walk back home. It was better then buying a bag of potatoes chips which he saw more of a watching TV snack then really eating it anywhere else.

He decided to walk though the park when he heard the voice of a few idiots. Usually he saw idiots before he heard them so he took this as his skills improving. He headed in the direction of the voices in time to see some very impressive moves coming from the 'victim' but at this point that statement was debatable. It was common practice for the victim to run away in terror but not this time. He walked out of the shadow clapping, "Bravo miss. That was an impressive display of martial arts. You must have studied for quite a time."

Kitty spun to face the man (or, well, Timelord) once she heard him approaching, reacting at first as if she were expecting another opponent. His words, however, relaxed her a little. "Oh, thanks," she said brightly. "Since I was thirteen, with some pretty extensive training," she told him, shrugging modestly. There was the whole demon ninja brainwashing matter, but that just wasn't every day conversation material. At least, not outside of Xavier's.

Wow thirteen was young but he didn't know if that was normal where she came from. Not that humans didn't start trying at even younger ages then that, it really depended on where you were from. "I started training at eight. Well not that," he said as he waved his hand in her direction. "But it was an impressive display, those attackers should feel honored to be apart of such art." He was sure that they wouldn't admire her skill as he did.

"I'm the Doctor."

"The Doctor?" she repeated curiously, but didn't comment on it. After all, she ran around calling herself Shadowcat half the time. "Nice to meet you, I'm Kitty," she introduced herself, offering her hand in greeting.

No sooner did she do so, when one of her 'friends' returned, waving a gun. "Ha! Not so tough with your ninja moves now, are you, bitch?" he taunted, aiming the weapon at the two of them.

Kitty acted quickly, linking her arm with the friendlier of the two strangers and making the both of them intangible, so that when the man fired, the bullets passed harmlessly through them, lodging themselves in the concrete wall behind Kitty and the Doctor.

Once she heard the distinctive click-click-click of someone attempting to fire an unloaded weapon, she let go. "I'll explain that in a second, assuming you don't run away screaming," she told the Doctor, before turning away to deal with the returning criminal.

[ooc: If any of this (ie, her grabbing/phasing him) is un-cool with you, just let me know and I'll change it.]

The Doctor nodded and took her hand, "Its a pleasure to meet you Kitty." Although her name brought back memories of those cat nuns Rose and he had a tiff with back on New New York. Which sent a chill down his spine that he quickly shook off, she seemed like a nice girl and so far didn't look like an evil cat nun so more points for her. Then a sudden voice caught his attention and it was one of the idiots for a moment ago. The Doctor stood up straight as he saw that the attacker was now armed with a gun which probably meant he was going to shoot it at them. Rose would kill him if he regenerated so soon after their reunion. The Doctor was about to do something stupid and heroic when Kitty took his arm, he looked at her but didn't move. He inhaled as he felt every molecule in his body became intangible. It was a rather odd feeling but not as painfully as the bullets would have been.

"Oh no problem. Beat away," he said as he looked over to the attacker who was still attempting to fire the empty gun. One would think he got that fact that he was out of bullets by now.

[OOC - Its fine by me.]

"Know what I hate?" said Kitty, advancing on the man to take him down similarly to his cohorts- though she also phased his gun out of his hand in order to take it by the barrel and beat him with the butt of it. "Guns. Know what else I hate? Getting shot at with guns!" And with that, she plunged the hand holding the weapon into the ground, and let it go, where it fused molecules with the pavement. One less gun on the streets... now in the street.

"That was a pretty rude interruption," she said, turning back to the Doctor, catching her breath. "But I think that was the last of them." She tilted her head, "you don't seem too weirded out by the phasing," she noted- part surprised, part grateful.

"I dislike guns as well," the Doctor added as she continued to beat the attacker. Which was true, the Doctor did perfer the less violent ways of ending a conflict but even he knew not to get in the way of a pissed off woman. Practically would be signing a death wish if a man did that. He just stood back as Kitty finished off beating the last attacker. Which he found slightly entertaining to watch although he did not agree with her methods.

"It was indeed rude," he nodded in agreement. Then he looked up at Kitty, "What? Oh the intangibility thing you did a moment ago, no big. Although a little warning next time I wasn't prepared for my molecules to rearrange." He knew that she was probably used to humans freaking out a little when she did that but it didn't phase him. Pardon the pun. "I'm over 900 years old, it takes a lot to weird me out."

That revelation really should have weirded her out more. But then, her best friend was an alien dragon about the size of a house cat. "And you don't look a day over 700," she commented, smiling a little. "And if you're wondering about the intangibility, I'm a mutant. Just a little extra oomph in otherwise human genes," she explained. "And the molecules don't so much rearrange as... pass in between those of everything else. I'm told it takes some getting used to by other people- it can kinda tingle sometimes."

"I know right," he laughed. Usually people assumed he was in his thirty's because of his appearance and he didn't mind that so much. Most would freak if they knew he was a nine hundred year old alien with two hearts and could travel though time. Well time and space. "Hm, a mutant," he repeated as he looked at her, his head tilting slightly. "Yes well I'm an alien. I haven't really run into a mutant here before so aces on being the first."

"My best friend is an alien," said Kitty, brightly. "Obviously a different species, of course. Small, purple, dragon-like," she said, holding her hands apart to approximate Lockheed's size. "So, I take it you're one of the people the Powers pulled here too?" she asked. It was either that, or he was actually a crazy guy who just thought he was a 900-year-old alien. And Occam's Razor never applied to her life- if anything, it applied in reverse.

"Oh how wonderful," the Doctor beamed. "I'm sure you two are the perfect match." He looked at the distance between her hands, it wasn't that small. It seemed like the perfect size to him. "Actually no. I have a ship, my TARDIS. I came here of my own free will but I can't seem to leave."

"He saved my life when I first met him, when I was thirteen," she shared. "Ship? That's gotta be hard to hide in LA... unless you've got cloaking tech, I guess. Up until I got here, I'd been hurtling through space, trapped in what was essentially a giant bullet, which I'd rendered completely intangible in order to save the world." A beat. "I'm not entirely sure why I'm telling you this right after meeting you. Hi, I'm a mutant, alien dragon, space bullet... not the sort of things I'd normally bring up in a conversation. But then, how often does someone tell you they're a 900 year old alien?" Another beat. "I'm rambling."
