It wasn't until he heard Dean's voice that Sam painfully pried his eyes away from the demon and focused on his surroundings. Everyone else was there. Even Ben. Sam looked at them all warily for a long moment before he lowered his gaze, feeling ashamed. Whatever they were here for, it was nothing good. Maybe it was because of him. Maybe they had decided to give up. Maybe he was done for.
The man. He was from Wolfram & Hart. So that meant the others...
Sam looked up at them, both anger and fear guiding his gaze. These were the people who had brought them here! They took people away, they brought them here, they played with them like stupid, little toys. He wanted to up and yell at them all over again, but his words were stifled at the sight of their advancement on Ruby.
End her. Yeah! They should!
Yes. And...and no. No, he needed - but it was wrong. Sam's shoulders tensed. Maybe if they killed her, cut her open, spilled her blood all over...maybe he could go over and take it. Just a little.
But they were letting her live. Why? What could they possib - whoa. No, no, no. They were coming toward him. Sam immediately took a step back. It actually looked like he was trying to hide behind Faith from the way he had taken an uneasy step behind her. Damn, why was she so small? Goddamn midgets!
His eyes widened slightly when the Wolfram and Hart guy started talking about ending him, but to his relief, that idea went out the window fast. He was left facing one of the Oracles and just being that close to one sent unwanted chills down his spine. He had always imagined this moment. Where he'd finally get to face them off and curse them to high hell for taking so much away from him and making his life so confusing. Instead, he went silent. Speechless. Mute. He couldn't speak, not even when the woman addressed him.
He looked down shamefully. One more chance. A final shot at a life with both his family and Faith in a world that seemed to be doomed. Sam didn't know whether to be grateful or displeased.
