It was cute, the female Oracle decided, watching the mortals reach for their loved ones and pull them to safety. Marcus was watching the same scene and simply rolling his eyes at the predictability of mankind, before he turned on the demon.
"You think we care for your excuses, demon?" His tone was mild, deceptively so as he looked around at the assembled mortals. "In case any of you were feeling a little on the slow side, I was Marcus Hamilton, think of me as Eve here's brother. Then I was annoyingly killed and I stand here before you both as him and as the Senior Partners. I don't just speak for them, I am them."
"And you also talk too much," the male Oracle interrupted before his sister took over. "We are here to discuss a specific matter, not pamper to your ego."
"Right, specific matters," Marcus sneered as he then turned his attention on the demon. "You. Were trying to raise Lucifer."
"This is something we cannot allow."
"In any dimension, ever."
Marcus glanced at the two Oracles, taking over each other's sentences flawlessly. "It's creepy when you two do that."
The beings blinked a moment, before they continued on, each finishing the other's words.
"Things are in balance."
"As they have always been."
"Freeing Lucifer damages that balance."
"It would start in one world."
"But then spread to them all."
"The balance of the dimensions would be shattered."
"And reality would descend into chaos."
"Right," Marcus gave the pair a dubious look. "Long story short, demon girl, a free Lucifer would eventually want to come and play in our playground and we really don't want that, because, hey, it's our playground. We built it, we have rules and we're having fun here. So, Lucifer, bad and we really don't want you trying that little stunt again."
