WHO: Mitchell and Lauren
WHAT: Facing the ex
WHEN: June 29th, afternoon
WHERE: Lauren's motel
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In progress

It had taken him longer than he'd like to admit to gather the courage to go and face his ex. That was the easiest way to think of her, the ex. Not as the woman he killed, the woman who's existence he'd ruined. His responsibility, his mistake. Just, the ex.

She had a power over him, ever since that night when he'd lost control and sunk his fangs into her neck, feeding from her, condemning her. It wasn't love, it was something far too messed up for that. But he felt drawn to her, something about her always calling him back.

Even when she killed people. A whole family, dead because of her. Because of him in a way, he was the monster who turned her. Something he was still finding hard to live with.

Mitchell didn't tell anyone where he was going as he left the Hyperion, the collar of his leather jacket turned up as he hunched his shoulders against the LA sunlight, sunglasses protecting his sensitive eyes. Maybe he should have left a message or a note of some kind. 'Off to see the ex. Don't wait up' Because that wouldn't have looked suspicious at all.

It felt oddly like old times as he made his way to her motel room, knocking on the door as he leaned against the wooden door frame.

Lauren moved further into the motel room, sitting on the side of her bed and focusing on a spot on the wall, anything other than the flinch that had crossed his face. The apology. She didn't want him to be guilty for her forever, that wasn't fair. He'd told her once the things she'd been doing. The killings. That was hers to be guilty for. Not his, and she was, she honestly was. Even if she wanted to do it again.

"Don't be sorry. You don't need to be."

Problem was he was a hero. One of the good guys, much as he'd had to overcome. He'd walked away from the vampires. From Herrick. Twice. She'd only managed to do that by. Well, asking him to help her. To end her.

"More of one than me. You stopped, you keep stopped much as it must tempt you. I should know, I was the one doing the tempting the last while."

Mitchell stepped further into the room, standing awkwardly with his hands in the pockets of his leather coat, shoulders hunched slightly.

"I do."

He'd slipped up, he'd turned her. And then he'd been the one to finally kill her. He had a lot to be sorry for and now, it seemed, she couldn't even rest in peace properly, these strange Powers bringing her back, here.

"You really tempted me." Both as a vampire and as a human. It was hard, being around her and not giving in, something Herrick had known and gleefully exploited.

"I guess I just decided other things mattered more."

There it was again, all of his guilt. All of his regret that he'd turned her, taken her life and left her this crazed needy murderer. And sometimes she'd blamed him, when she was killing that woman he'd gone drinking with, she'd thought maybe she was even saving her just in case he lost control again. Saving the woman from this life. But no, no she was just lost in the kill, and whatever crazy messed up feelings being around Mitchell brought with them.

"I was supposed to. I mean when Herrick..."

God, the video, the hidious man she'd hated that they'd gotten. He'd hurt her. Is that what she wanted out of life to be that. He'd looked so disgusted with her.

"I know what used to matter. I know what I used to want from life. But thats all gone. All I can see now is the kill, the blood. But just sometimes there's you. I look at you and how you stay off it and I think maybe, but you're stronger than me Mitchell. You always have been. So thats why I need you to help me"

Mitchell closed his eyes at the mention of Herrick, an odd mixture of emotions stirring as they always did when he thought of his Sire.

"There can be more to your life than the kill, Lauren," he insisted, staring at her unflinchingly. "I'll help you as much as I can, you know I will. But you're the one who needs to make that choice and stick with it."

He paused and looked awkwardly around the motel room. "I'm nothing special, I'm just a guy, a vampire who made a choice. Any vampire could do the same if they want it enough."

She knew it in theory. Things he said to her back home, and the same thing here, more to life than the kill. More to life than the blood. But it was hard to think of that when she'd had Herrick and Seth in her ear telling her otherwise. Telling her she was something else now, beyond human. Better.

But look how that had worked out for her.

"Okay. Okay I'll try alright. I'll see how it goes. But you have to promise to be there Mitchell, you have to cause doing this without you. Look how it went the last time I tried it"

She wasn't sure she believed that she could do it if she wanted it enough. But she'd try. Because the alternative scared the hell out of her.

Mitchell didn't consider himself anything special, no extra strength or willpower that allowed him to quit when others didn't. He was just a guy, one ordinary guy with friends and a reason to try to stay human.

"I've already promised haven't I," he pointed out to Lauren. "Herrick's not here, Seth's not here. None of them to try to tell you what to do, just you and me now. And Annie. And, okay, George might be less keen on the whole helping you thing at first, but he'll come around. We're here to help you, Lauren, I know you can do this."

Lauren was ready, she knew she would find it hard, awful, horrible. But she knew as well that she would try it. Because of Mitchell, because the alternative, what she'd need to ask of him again. What she had asked him to promise. That was unfair on him.

"I know...I do. And you all have every right to tell me where to go after everything I did. But it means a lot, especially from you"

She patted the bed beside her, not entirely assuming he'd want to sit with her but wanting him close, maybe even needing it.

"Come sit?"
