WHO: Castiel WHAT: This is how an angel freaks out WHEN: 2nd June 2006- early evening WHERE: Guardian Angel Catholic Church, Pacoima, LA RATING: Pg13 STATUS: Narrative
Castiel knew the rules. This dimension belonged to the Powers That Be, and the Old Ones. Some would even say that angels had no place here. But here he was regardless and in all the billions of years he had existed, he hadn't felt quite so helpless.
It was different to fighting direct threats. Lilith, Alastair, Azazel. Glory, Caleb, Kumiko. All were something real, something he could take action against and fight. But here and now, all he could do was sit and watch, helpless to do anything to prevent what was happening. The frustration had been building for a while as he'd longed to bring Sam's child back to him, or return Claire's father to her. But this, this was something greater, something more. Three so far had been changed, plucked away and replaced with other versions of themselves. And the angel suspected they would not be the last.
Why now? Castiel wanted to shout and scream at something. Why upset the balance now when there were so many questions that urgently needed answering? Questions that would now be brushed away and ignored. Something was wrong with Sam. And Ruby. And this had come at the worst possible time. What were the Powers even doing? Where they paying attention? Did they not care?
Once upon a time, before Castiel had met anyone with the last name Winchester, even thinking such questions would have been considered blasphemy, even against a different Higher Power. He couldn't tell exactly which one of them had made him start questioning like this, but he was sure it was one of their influences. Not for the first time he longed for another of his kind to be here, even Uriel. Just someone who could offer him guidance.
He'd found his way to a church, quiet at this time of the evening, in the early twilight hours. Guardian Angel. He found the name mildly ironic. Still, he made his way inside, gently easing open the door before closing it firmly behind him and making his way to the alter and kneeling in front of it. He was a warrior of heaven, an angel of the Lord and a servant of God. And for the first time in far too long a time, he prayed.
"Please."
Give me the answers, give me strength, make this right, fix all of this
