2003

"A little birdie in my head told me you'd be here." The mocking voice sent a chill down Faith the Vampire Slayer's spine.

"Ooh. Exciting." Angelus had that damn smirk on his face as he looked at Faith and Wesley before Faith stepped forward, determined as she aimed the dart gun and pulled the trigger. Fucking vampire reflexes. Angelus dodged, kicking Faith hard in the stomach, making her stumble back and crash into a column. Dimly she heard Wes fire the shot gun.

"Gotta do better than that, Wes," Angelus mocked. " Come on, I'll give you one more." But Angelus grabbed the gun instead, still smirking. "Strike three." As he threw Wes casually through the glass, Faith knew she should be concerned. But all she could focus on was the broken needle in her hand. The Orpheus trickled out, useless. The plan, the only plan they'd had, was ruined. And Angelus wasn't finished.

"Uh-oh. Vampire with a gun." He shot at Faith, sending her running until she fell down the stairs. "I can see why he likes this thing." Casually he followed the fallen Slayer. "Wow." He almost waved the gun in her face as she looked up from her position on the ground. "You really have gone soft now, haven't you? Hey, you remember that time you tried to get Angel to kill you because you felt all weepy over being such a bad little girl. Huh? Do you still feel that way? Do you still wanna die?"

Faith looked away, feelings of both pain and shame crashing over her before she replied, her tone no more than a mumble. "No."

He could hear her, she knew that. Vampire hearing and all. But still Angelus looked at her. "What's that?"

"No." Louder this time, hating herself for doing it.

"I can't hear you." That sing song voice of his was rapidly getting on her nerves and she snapped, yelling this time.

"No!"

Angelus looked down at her, cocking the gun anyway and making her flinch away.

"Too bad, because you're gonna." He kept cocking the gun, over and over again, each click echoing around the large space before he smirked. "But not like this."

Furious, Faith kicked the shotgun away from Angelus, before taking a swipe at his feet. As he jumped out of the way she took advantage of the pause and jumped up to her feet and started punching him in the face, making the vampire laugh.

"Looks like we got a live one." He punched her hard in the face with a smirk. "For now." He kicked her, hard enough to make her stumble backwards. "A little tired, sweetie? You wanna take a break?" Another kick sent her rolling away, before she forced herself to her hands and knees, her body still not healed from the fight with the Beast screaming for a break as blood dripped to the floor.

"Now, this is disappointing," Angelus continued. "You never used to bleed so easy."

"Screw you." Faith retorted, the pain still clear in her voice.

"Maybe after," Angelus sounded like he was actually considering it. " I like my girls to lie still." He glanced up, a show of casualness as he called out to the barely conscious Wesley. "Hey, buddy, how's it goin' in there? Good old Wes. Always count on him to tackle a bad situation and make it worse. I mean, hey, look how you turned out. But then again, I guess he really didn't have much to work with now." The grin he offered down to Faith made her really want to knock his teeth out, even as she forced a laugh.

"Save the head trip, GQ. Wes told me you'd try to get under my skin. Gave me just what I needed to scratch you out." As she coughed, Angelus laughed darkly, rolling his eyes.

"Oh ho. Don't tell me. The rousing stiff upper lip speech. Rah rah. Good over evil. Do what must be done. Hang in there, kitten, it's almost Friday. Is that what the scraggly little ponce armed you with to fight the big, bad boogey man?"

"Yeah, and this." Faith grabbed the knife she'd hidden in her jacket, throwing it into his chest. Before he could react, she yanked it out again, slicing him a few more times before he kicked her away and jumped up into the scaffolding.

"That hurt, baby," he called down as Faith tried to work out where he was. "Kinda liked it. How 'bout you? There's my girl. I knew she was in there somewhere dying to come out and play again."

"Shut up"

"I know how it feels—forced to be someone you're not. Hurts to the bone. You try to bury the pain, but you can't get the hole deep enough, can you? No matter how much you dig, it's still there. Broken shards stabbing every time you breathe, cutting you up inside. You know, there's only one way to make the pain stop." Suddenly he jumped down behind her. "Hurt someone else."

Faith turned to try to stab him again before he grabbed at her wrist, forcing her to drop the knife. He kicked her hard, hard enough to send her flying up into the scaffolding. As he jumped up to follow her, she ducked and swung around, desperately trying to avoid his blows as they lept from one level to the next. But she just wasn't quick enough. Finally Angelus caught up with her, throwing her to the ground before jumping down to land next to her.

"Come on, Faith, you're not even trying." Angelus sounded almost bored as he punched Faith. "Or is that why you really came back, huh? Not enough to punish yourself in prison? Is that it? Still looking for someone to help beat the bad out of you?" He punched her in the face, hard enough to send her sprawling to the floor. "You know what the funny part is, darling? I could beat you death, and it wouldn't make a difference. Nothing will ever change who you are, Faith." A kick to her face made her yelp with pain. "You're a murderer." Another, harder punch to the face. "An animal." Another punch, this time followed by him grabbing her hair and pulling her face close to his. "And you enjoy it." A final punch sent her to the ground again as Angelus stood back with triumph. "Just like me."

That was enough to make the Rogue Slayer see red, jumping up and lunging for the smirking vampire, raining blows on him until he went down. Even when he was on the ground she stood over him, hitting his face over and over again.

"No," Faith made herself stop, snarling slightly. "You're wrong. I'm different now. I'm not like you"

There was a pause before Angelus kicked at Faith's ankles, pulling her feet out from under her and sending her to the ground. His movements were swift as he grabbed her from behind and vamped out.

"You will be." The words sent a shiver down her before he bit down on her neck. A cry escaped her lips as the fangs pierced her skin and she tried to pull away. But Angelus held her too tightly as he kept drinking her blood. Wesley finally crashed through the last layer of scaffolding, intending to come to her aid before he froze in horror. This hadn't been the plan. Angelus was supposed to be drugged by now, not still drinking from her. All the former Watcher could do was watch as the light gradually drained from his Slayer's eyes. Finally, Angelus stopped, while Faith was still, barely, able to breathe. He looked up and smirked darkly at Wes before he used his fang to tear open his own wrist and forcing it to Faith's mouth. As much as Faith tried to resist, the vampire's blood began to pour down her throat before the world went black.

2006.

Faith the vampire lounged back on her chair, looking mostly bored. Once upon a time this whole begging for their lives thing had given her a thrill, but not for quite a while. Her eyes moved up and met the dark gaze of her lover's. Her Sire. Angelus. It had been an eventful few years. After she had awoken, Angelus had brought her her first meal, a pretty, young teenage girl. Faith had torn open her throat and drained her dry. Then they'd gone and had fun. Killing Wesley had given her such a kick. Tying him down again, with the flames and the shallow cuts so he would remain conscious. But this time there was no crying out from him, no attempts at sarcasm. Just his constant gaze on her, looking simply sad. This time there was no rescue from Angel. Just Faith finally getting bored and ripping into his arteries.

Gunn and Fred had gone down swinging, she had to give them that. But against two vampires like them they hadn't stood a chance. Cordelia had tried to bargain again, but something about her scent was just wrong and Angelus had sneered before snapping her neck. The green demon had fled while the brat tried for bravado. Faith played with him a while before killing him. Angelus had entered and looked down at the dead body of his son before smiling darkly at his creation.

"Let's go to Sunnydale."

That had been fun. Ripping into the people she'd considered both friends and enemies at different times. A new Slayer was already activated in Sunnydale, a young brat named Kennedy. Faith had enjoyed torturing her to death. Buffy had been Angelus's. Played with while Faith amde the others watch. None had escaped by the time the vampire duo skipped town.

That had been three years ago and the whispers about the pair had spread across America. The Scourge of Europe has returned, the rumors said, before Faith swiftly corrected them. She was not Darla, nor the insane seer. She was the Rogue Slayer, turned vampire. She was something this world had never witnessed. Angelus had created something entirely new.

Finally the begging bored her too much and she leaned forward and dug her fingernails into the soft neck of the cute little hunter before her, tearing out the throat before she sat back and idly licked the blood from her fingers. Angelus laughed darkly as he watched her.

"There's never any challenge for you any more, is there."

Faith uncrossed her leather clad legs and jumped up, prowling towards her lover. "Then find me something good. Something exciting." She reached up and kissed him, letting her taste the blood on her tongue. His hands tangled in her hair as he pulled her roughly to him.

"Go, get some sleep and I'll bring you something fun for when you wake up."

She grinned before turned away, a strange mixture of a yelp and a purr escaping when he smacked her ass before she sauntered up to their bed.

When she woke up everything was different. The room was all wrong, there were no screams echoing from nearby. The vampire looked up sharply, her lip curled back to show her fangs. She got up abruptly, moving to pick up a framed picture on the nearby dresser. It was her. Only different. Her hair was longer in the picture, and she had a faint tan. Angelus preferred her hair short, just as when they first met and Faith now wore the cold paleness of someone who hadn't seen the sun in years.

She gripped the photoframe so hard the glass cracked. There were others in the picture, people she didn't recognise. What was this? Was this the something new Angelus had promised?

She nearly wrenched the door off it's hinges as she stalked downstairs. As her eyes took in the surroundings she realized she knew this place. It was the Hyperion, as impossible as that was. They had burned it to the ground years ago, laughing as all traces of Angel went up in flames. Her vampiric features retracted, leaving the face of the girl she once was behind as she looked around, confused.

Claire had been worried, things were conflicted and everyone, Everyone. Was on edge. She could see it in her sister, in Nathan, everyone at the Hyperion. Things were building to something and she didn't know what, didn't like it whatever it was.

And she could see it in the vampire Slayer as she took the last steps into the lobby. Faith looked confused, and Claire couldn't blame her, she'd been supposed to go meet Sam Winchester. Sam who seemed a little off lately, stranger even than usual and the Winchesters were pretty odd at the best of times.

"You okay Faith, thought you were going out to meet Sam"

Or maybe she did, maybe she met him and it had gone badly.

"I'm gonna make a coffee, you want one?"

Faith turned at the voice, anger flashing in her eyes.

"Who are you?" Her voice was more of a growl. "Why are you talking like you know me?"

What the hell was even going on here? The vampire was confused about how this was even possible. What had Angelus done? The Hyperion was back and seemingly populated by some perky blonde cheerleader type. She never had liked them.

She tilted her head to one side, listening properly for the first time. Heartbeats, breathing. There were people here, many of them. Far more than Angel had had back in the day.

She snarled, her face shifting as the fangs grew and she turned on the blonde girl. "This isn't funny," she snapped before moving quickly, vampiric speed getting her close to the girl. Swiftly she reached out and broke her neck. Having just fed she wasn't even willing to drain her dry. All she wanted was to get the hell out of here. As the body dropped to the floor she stormed out, slamming the doors wide as she headed out down the street.

Talking like she knew

"Faith what's...FAITH!"

Claire tried to get away, tried to pull back but she was too fast, faster than she should be and...

Before her neck snapped Claire managed to say one thing and one thing only

"Holy Shi..."

It was a few seconds later when she came back, sitting up, hands lifting to her head to push it back into place, she hated broken necks, uncomfortable and horrible as they were, but this time she didn't even think about it, running to the computer as soon as she was on her feet to sound the alert.

She'd been turned. Something, some vampire had turned Faith.

She had to warn the hotel. She didn't even take the time to be scared, or grieve.

The Machine had come into the room then, weighted footsteps sounding on the floor from his boots. He had replied immediately. This was not good.. Faith being turned. He accessed his files and set it so that the vampire would not be terminated. Not this one. The hotel and city needed Faith normal again and slaying her was not an option. It would be a similar situation if Spike had been made evil. He believed that others felt the same.

He glanced aside and saw Claire, after locking the windows. He'd leave the magic barrier work to others. He asked the girl, "Where is Faith now? Is she still present within the building?"

Entering quickly, Nathan moved to the desk and Claire, reaching for her even as verified that the security system was completing the hotel lockdown process while Gabriel started on resetting passwords and the myriad of other details needed to be done for a likely security breech of this level, given that a team member with intimate knowledge was out there and turned. One arm around his daughter's shoulders, Nathan pulled up multiple screens within the security system program, expression steely as he traced Faith in the system.

She'd logged out, not long enough ago yet that she'd have needed to check in. There'd been no re-entry to the hotel, but there had been a second exit by something that both was and wasn't Faith. What currently had Nathan cursing was that the system hadn't notified him of this the moment a turned-Faith had been detected. The system was designed to do that, especially with changes as drastic as living human to dead vampire.

"She's not," he said to T-850. "Not only that, Faith shouldn't even have been in here because she's logged out and didn't come through that door again – only out a second time." That said, he turned to face Claire, shifting so both arms were around her.

"What happened, Claire?" Despite the intensity of his actions to this point, Nathan forced himself to soften it all for her, so the question was voice calmly and gently.

Claire was more than a little confused by what Nathan found. The fact Faith had left twice and not come in as a vampire. Cause of course she couldn't have, the system would have known wouldn't it. She was mostly aware of being hugged. She'd needed to be. Needed her bio dad and as usual he was there for her.

She'd looked up, to tell the Terminator that Faith wasn't still here but Nathan had taken care of that, and was asking her now to explain just what had happened.

"Came down and she was standing in the lobby looking all confused, I thought...I dunno I thought something had happened with Sam and I said did she want to talk or did she want coffee, then she just vamped out and ran at me, she broke my neck before I could get out of her way. Its just scary, if it had been most people down here she'd have killed them for good"

Even if he lived to be two hundred by some feat of future science, Nathan hearing his children talk about being hurt would always affect him beneath the careful layers of Petrelli control. Hearing his daughter talk about her neck being broken like another might talk about a broken arm, that would still always feel like a kick to the gut and those a person didn't experience without outward expressions of the feeling.

Biting back the anger that rose at the thought – because this was Faith and without a soul, there were exceptions to be made, exceptions Nathan would find harder still if Claire wasn't healed in front of him – he carefully inspected her neck, unnecessary as it was, until he was satisfied.

"Did she say anything to you that you remember?" he asked as he turned – keeping one arm around her – to cue up the screens for the cameras in the lobby, to review the last few minutes of image and sound.

Nathan was examining her neck and Claire would never understand that, she hadn't felt it, hadn't felt anything. But she supposed telling her father what he already knew would never stop him checking. Besides she didn't mind that he cared.

"Its healed now anyway" was all she said.

"She was just all confused, thought she'd had another fight with Sam" she told Nathan before something else came back to her, just how deep Faith's confusion had run. The cold look in her eyes before they had turned to that horrible yellow.

"Asked why I was talking like I knew her?"

"She did?" That comment of Claire's fanned the flame of a thought Nathan hadn't yet given himself a breath to consider, even though it was the logical explanation for how a person could exit a building twice, minutes apart, and be human once and a vampire the next. Even now, he held it back until he'd seen it with his own eyes.

Stopping at a point further back, Nathan watched their Faith exit the lobby, then sped it up past the point where the front desk person had moved into the office, then played at normal speed to watch – ad listen – to the brief exchange to come when the vampire Faith appeared.

By the time the exchange was over, less than thirty seconds later, Nathan was gripping the desk with one hand to control the angry urge that came at seeing Claire's neck snapped. He turned away from the monitor and faced those closest to himself and Claire.

"I don't think that was Faith, not our Faith."

Claire decided it was weird watching herself get her neck broken. Creepy too. But that was her power. She couldn't help but notice how Nathan was reacting and all she could do was move her hand to her fathers arm, still gripping the desk.

She didn't say anything, there were other people in the room and Nathan had always struck her as someone who liked to keep his emotions private, including this one, It can't have been easy for him to see it, but she was here now, and she was fine.

And she was admittidly a little confused.

"Not our Faith, You mean there's two, like with me and SBC, only, y'know, with fangs"

"Yes, exactly," Nathan said with a nod, pressing on, but not letting the hand on his arm go unacknowledged as he briefly squeezed it with his free hand before turning his attention to the computer.

"See, look here," he said, pulling up the security logs on one of the computer screens. "Faith left with a standard log-out. And here," he pointed to a line that had been flagged to be looked at, but not as any security breech, as it should have, "this blip from the upstairs sector where Faith's room is didn't register, something Gabriel wouldn't have seen until doing daily maintenance, and it's just a short time later. A minute and a half after that blip, Faith as a vampire appears in the lobby, according to the timestamp, then exited the building."

He turned from the screen to look at Claire. "Two exits, one human, one vampire. I'm not an expert, but I'm relatively sure that vampires take longer to make than a few minutes."

The squeeze was acknowledgement that yes he'd noted her worry and was now getting on with things, that was fine. He knew she was okay now even if it obviously still bothered him deeply.

She didn't really understand the log stuff yet she'd been mostly working the patrols wanting to make herself a better fighter so it wasn't always so completely defensive, but it made sense.

"So its another Faith. A different one somehow, and ours is, what, gone. Hidden somewhere? Can we find her wherever she is?"

Even without the alarms that Claire had sounded, Heidi would have known something was wrong from the moment she saw her husband and his daughter standing there. There was something decidedly off about them, though Heidi couldn't put her finger on just what it was, and it left her feeling unsettled.

"Where who is?" she asked, coming in on the tail end of Claire's words. "What did I miss, and what is up with the alarm system?"

He knew that he had not been the best of the best when it came to being the ideal boyfriend lately. Sam had lost track of time, himself, even the days of the week after having spent so much time sneaking around with Ruby, lapping up her blood like it was something that he had done all his life. It was disorienting. Confusing. Yet, at the same time, Sam couldn't find the strength in himself to stay away. In fact, it was slowly turning into a reverse situation where he repeatedly came to Ruby for the blood rather than easing into the idea with the subtle hints she would throw at him about the procedure. Sam could not stay away from it; the blood was too much for him to turn away from. He liked the way it made him feel. It was because of that reason, in addition with a few bouts of werewolf debate, that Faith was getting so frustrated with him. Sam promised her that tonight they would be together in hopes of temporarily remedying her concerns. Having resisted the urge to call Ruby again for another drink, Sam forced himself out to the location that he and Faith had agreed to meet up at and quietly waited for her arrival. She said she'd be around after patrol. Sam had gotten there at eleven thirty, as promised, and ended up waiting for over an hour for his girlfriend to show. Having managed to build up a steady steam of his own concern throughout that duration, Sam had just been about to call her when he received a text from the younger Claire.

Then, just like that, less than fifteen minutes later, Sam was pushing his way into the Hyperion with hell in his eyes. Faith wasn't coming out to meet him, Claire had said. That meant that something was wrong. They wouldn't invite him here otherwise. Not with the current conflict between them.

"Where is she?" He declared to the lobby, without even checking to see if anyone was actually there. He was so terrified and determined and angry all at once that Sam didn't even care if he woke up half the hotel in order to get the answers that he needed. Faith had to be okay. They were supposed to meet each other. They were supposed to make things right. This was not right.

By virtue of being closer to the Hyperion than Sam had been because she lived less than fifteen minutes from it at a normal driving speed, Claire had arrived before Sam and so it was she who turned away from the front counter first to face him. She wasn't thinking about mediating the scene by being the one to answer him, rather than her father, who likely wouldn't take any amount of attitude from Sam, or anyone else who currently was not happy with Sam – she was only thinking about the enormity of what was happening and what had to be said to him.

"She's not here, Sam," she said, eyes wide, the delivery nearly one of a person announcing a death – perhaps because, in a way, that was exactly what part of this was. It was there that she stopped, because the rest just seemed too much to put on him all at once, especially because the truth of the situation was changing with every piece of information.

Dean came into the building, his eyes looking instantly for Faith and Sam. When Claire sent him the message saying they couldn't patrol that night because something was wrong with Faith, Dean's mind went to all that could be wrong, and despite the fact that Sam yo-yoed between being there for everyone and being Ruby's bitch, he knew that Faith was very important to his brother.

Spotting Sam and Claire across the room, Dean rushed past a few people to get to them. "Hey," He said, voice cautious, what's going on?"

The younger Claire Bennet looked up when Sam got to the hotel, she'd been the one to text him after all and even now knew he had to be told the truth, SBC had gotten there not long before him and before she could say too much Dean had arrived. But Claire was focused on the kind of scary look in Sam's eyes.

"You should maybe sit down. You'll need to..."

She decided it was easiest just to come out with it.

"Its Faith, Sam, she...Something..."

She had to tell him, because keeping people in the dark was something that had been done to her so very very often and she'd hated it.

"A vampire, got to her and made her one. She got bit Sam and I don't even know where to begin to explain it"

She looked over to SBC and Dean, who knew him better, who she hoped would be able to help him deal with the utter scary enormity of all of this

Having been still and quiet at a slight distance from the rest of those gathered, to better conference mentally with his brother, Nathan's suddenly flurry of action as he punched the top of the front desk was likely all the more obvious. For the past twenty or so minutes, everyone had been piecing together information from all sources, the picture slowly changing from the initial assumption that Faith had been turned.

There were too many details pointing to the one thing no one would want to accept, Nathan knew. Faith leaving the Hyperion, completely fine. Faith not reentering the hotel as a vampire, yet suddenly being upstairs. The fact that vampires weren't created in mere minutes. The vampire version of Faith in the hotel long enough that the security system not responding was a serious issue, but not long enough to do more than hurt Claire. The things Peter could sense and the ones he couldn't. They all fit together to say that this likely wasn't the Faith that had left the Hyperion the first time.

"I don't think a vampire got to our Faith," he said, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear him as he headed toward the secondary grouping of the Winchesters and his daughters. "I think we need to face the likelihood that this vampire Faith isn't the Faith we know, based on what we've put together so far."

Fred had seen plenty in the few years she had been with Angel Investigations but this kind of situation never got any easier. She hovered outside the group, trying to help gather any information they might have on the situation, listening to them talk as she struggled to make sense of it.

This couldn't be happening. Not to a friend. The thump from Nathan's direction made her jump and she crossed her arms tighter over her stomach.

A small frown appeared and she looked over at Nathan, her head tilting slightly. "You mean like an alternate version of Faith?"

Rubbing his jaw, Nathan looked at Fred and nodded. "Yes. One from a dimension where her choices were different than the Faith that belongs here. It's not the first time duplicates and alternate timelines have happened," he said, nodding to his daughters, "but Faith – our Faith – vanished as abruptly as this vampire appeared. Call her phone – the call isn't going to voicemail, it won't go through period, which has happened before with people who've been sent back with their phones."

It was getting harder to talk about this, but Nathan pressed on. "The problem is, Faith has always been here, this is her world. There isn't any 'back' for her."

Faith? Turned? What? Sam was quite literally on the brink of exploding at every single person standing in that room with him, demanding an explanation as to why they thought that throwing something like that at him would be amusing. Jaw tight, Sam glared past Dean and focused on Nathan, hearing his words cut in before he could spew out a few of his own.

"Someone made a wish. They had to have..." Sam turned his back to Nathan, hands raking through his hair. How could they not see it? Had they forgotten what had happened to him? Nostrils flaring, Sam wheeled around, immediately scanning the lobby.

"Where the hell is Anya?"

He was done fucking around with her. The bitch was dead.

Sarah had been quietly waiting for something like this, wanting it to be different but knowing Sam Winchester would find a way to blame someone in this building. How did his family put up with this constantly? She wasn't worried for Anya, at all, but it did piss her off. However, she had to control it, or she was going to get out of hand and direct it all at Sam.

"Because I know you're just lashing out," she said, sheer willpower alone being the only thing keeping her voice even as she moved closer, "I'm going to calmly remind you that Anya can't grant wishes anymore. She is human, not a vengeance demon, and can no more give anyone a wish than you can."

She stopped when she was close enough to meet his eyes, but still outside the barriers of personal space. A safe distance if he tried anything, but a distance to show she wasn't going to back down from him possibly threatening anyone in the building.

"We're not going to play the blame game here, we're going to get Faith back and restrain the vampire version of her. If you care about Faith at all, you'll focus on finding who's responsible – because God knows there are enough possibilities as play here as to who did this – instead of blaming the people who want her back just as badly as you."

Perhaps more than you, when it come down to it. But the thought remained unsaid.

It was more bad timing than anything else that had Anya enter the lobby just as Sam spoke. She'd seen the message from Claire and had figured out quickly the gist of what had happened. A vampire version of Faith, fun all around.

But for someone to actually think she'd done it? That she even could do something that powerful these days?

On the one hand, flattering. Nice ego boost of how the magic was seen. But on the other, bigger, more important hand, terrifying. Especially considering the kill-happy person thinking it.

"It wasn't me," she said quietly, before anyone had even noticed she was there. "I didn't do this, I swear. I've not even gone near messing with dimensional shifts since the dracu vamps were here. I don't even know if I could do something like this."

She stepped more towards the group, arms wrapped around herself defensively as she stepped closer to people she liked. Like Nathan and Sarah.

"And I don't know where to begin trying to get her back."

Jacen entered almost silently, watching much of the exchange with one hand on his lightsaber, just in case. As much as he liked Sam Winchester, and he did even if the boy infuriated him sometimes, he would not tolerate him threatening any of the people of the Hyperion. With Sarah standing so close to him, Jacen's gaze sought out Nathan's, waiting for any hint of an order. He was confident in his ability to restrain Sam without harming him if he needed to, but he was still going to wait for the order regardless.

And hopefully keep people focused on the matter at hand. Something Nathan said bothered him more than a little.

"This is Faith's original world isn't it? Not just reality, but her timeline as well?" He spoke up for the first time, theorizing out loud and hoping he didn't end up making people explode.

"Most of the time when people disappear they go home, but this is her home. So in theory she could still be here..." He paused a moment, closing his eyes briefly and searching through the Force. "Which I doubt since I can't sense her," he continued. "Or she's gone to the dimension this vampire originated from. Or.." A third option came to him and he considered keeping it to himself. He made himself look at Sam, wondering if he would erupt at the possibility. But Jacen had never believed in shielding people from reality. "Or she's ceased to exist. Completely."

Tenel Ka wasn't suprised at Sam's reaction, this over reacting, the coldness, she had started to expect it from her friends boyfriend. She stepped out from the kitchen tiredness in her eyes more than anything else and rested an arm against Jacen as she usually did. he could still move if Sam became a threat, But the Hapan Queen wasn't sure he would do.

Jacen's options weren't pleasent, but all of them, every one, had logic to it. The idea of Faith ceasing to exist, replaced by this, shell of her. It bothered Tenel Ka more than her stoic expression let on, Jacen of course would know.

"Sarah is right. We should focus on finding the vampire version and working on a way to get our Faith back. Placing blame is a foolish endevour that will get us nowhere fast, there are possibilities as Jacen has pointed out, but lets focus on what we can do. What do we have by way of a plan?"

It took every bit of restraint that Sam had to keep him from hurling himself at Anya when she appeared. His expression settled into a look of fury, one that he directed at no one but her. If she didn't personally stand behind the sendoff, Anya either shared her secret with someone else or passed on the inspiration because of what she had done to him. Either way, if Sam found one single shred of evidence that would prove that she was responsible for what was happening, he would find a way to force Anya to bring Faith back and then he would kill her. After kicking her ass.

"If I find out you had anything to do with this, I'll kill you," Sam warned viciously, "I swear to God, Anya."

Jacen and Tenel Ka were the next to arrive. He couldn't help but lash out, again, at the next idea that flowed by him. "What do you mean cease to exist?" Oh God. Oh God!

The look that Nathan sent Jacen immediately following the outright death threat to Anya likely spoke his very thought without the word – that Sam had officially been given his last strike. One more threat or attack on one of their teammates, he would be kicked out or forcibly removed. While his tolerance for this Winchester brother was zero on most days, Nathan refused to deal with this right now when people who were just as invested in this, who cared just as much, were still managing to control themselves.

Jaw literally making a faint grinding noise as he turned his head, Nathan looked at Sam, political finesse handed over in favor of a no-nonsense steely tone.

"One more threat against anyone here, Winchester, and we can and will do this without you. You're not the only one angry right now, but we need people willing to work to get Faith back, not stand around and make pointless threats and waste precious time."

That said, Nathan dismissed him with a look and turned to face the others.

"We're not gonna assume worst case scenarios yet. For now, we're working under the assumption that because this is Faith's world and we can't sense her, she may have filled the void left elsewhere by the arrival of this vampiric version of her. So we're gonna find a way to find her, get there and bring her back."

"As for the vampire, we take measures to keep her from hurting anyone." Else. Nathan suspected there was likely already bodies to blame her for. "We lock her up, we turned her human, we do what we have to without killing her because we may need her to get Faith back and because she's Faith down in there somewhere."

Sam was being downright creepy now, Claire looked over to Nathan and didn't miss the look he shot Jacen, they were wary of him, and he'd outright threatened Anya.

Nathan's decree to Sam was welcome, and needed. But Claire was more than a little worried about the reaction, she looked over to SBC trying to gauge an opinion from the sister that knew the Winchester brothers way better than her.

"We'll figure something out. We'll take her down and get her back here, we already have crazy fire lady down in the basement right? And vampires can be helped right, like Spike is. They can be given their souls back"

Claire had never really been sure about souls until she got to LA. She'd wondered back in Odessa if the fact she couldn't feel pain meant she didn't have one. But she did, she knew because she saw things without souls most nights and it scared the holy hell out of her.

But people with souls were scary too, she decided, looking over at Sam again and moving closer to her father and Jacen and Tenel Ka. She'd tried to talk to him, he'd been so nice to her during the whole thing with the pits but had brushed her off completely.

She'd tried, she wasn't about to try again.

Xander was always late to the gosh darn party. He simply blamed this on the fact that he spent too much time worrying over construction-like things rather than the important stuff, like Hyperion based emergencies that required much attention when they occurred. So he was late. But at least he had screws. That was the upside. The downside? Well. This entire situation was the downside, really.

Automatically, Xander found himself perching off at Anya's side. He had marched in just in time to see that Sam guy glaring at her like he actually wanted to start trouble, which immediately hitched up the defensive flares. If anything good could have been said about the part where he came in late, it was based on the fact that he had not heard the threat that came with the glare. Otherwise this meeting would have been screwed over by his act of manly defending of manliness.

"There is the re-souling thing," Xander chimed in, prying his own glare away from the Winchester. He had to glare. It was important. "Willow can help with that, I think. She's got the magics and she's looked over a spell for Angel one time a while ago. Maybe she can find it again?"

Claire only barely kept herself from groaning out loud in frustration at Nathan's declaration. It was his right to do it, the threats were bad, and it was how her father was, but Claire was bracing for Sam's reaction to the 'without you' part even as she closed the gap between him and went toe to toe with Sam. He was hurting and angry and he wanted the most convenient person to blame, the person he could make pay with some physical violence – and the PTB or the Senior Partners weren't the latter. While she was relatively confident he wasn't going to get physical with her just to start a fistfight with any of the others, if he did, then Dean would be motivated to knock Sam on his ass for hitting his girlfriend, which would stop any other violence.

There was one problem with people over a foot shorter than the person you wanted the attention of, however, and it was that you couldn't force the meeting of gazes by getting in their line of vision, so Claire resorted to a tried and true method of getting the attention of tall, angry Winchesters – she fisted her hands in the fabric of his shirtfront and tugged insistently.

"Sam, please," she all but pleaded. "We have to focus on getting Faith back as soon as possible. Everything that's happened before this, it can't matter right now. The only thing that can matter is that they have the resources and the people to get Faith back. That's what we want, isn't it?"

Turning her attention away from Sam briefly, given Claire was attempting to reason with him – something Sarah didn't see as likely, but who knew with those two – she nodded at Xander.

"I remember them trying that here. The research should be here from when they were going to re-ensoul Angelus last year, but Wolfram & Hart bought up all the orbs and – well, they didn't get a chance to finish the ritual in time."

Though said as a statement, it was part question, as a number of the people involved in that had long since vanished or been replaced with people who remembered nothing of their previous time here, which meant those involved in the research weren't around. Still, it was an important ritual, the information had to be in the building still.

"Is Willow going to need help to do it?" she asked. In dealing with a different Willow than she had been friends with, Sarah really wasn't sure.

This was not the first time Anya had received a death threat. Not even the first time she'd received one from Sam Winchester. But getting one that was so completely undeserved was actually new for her.

"I didn't do it," she insisted again, more vehemently as her tone became more upset and shaken. "The latest magic I've been researching is nothing to do with dimensional shifts and even if it was I don't have the power it takes to do something like this, not any more."

The power, the technicality of it all, helped her focus, helped stop the panic that was threatening to build.

"It's such a complex piece of magic to work with. I mean you take one reality," she held up her right hand, index finger pointing up. "And you take the second one." She brought her left hand up as well. "And then you bring them crashing together." She linked her two index fingers. "For a specific point in time only before you wrench them back apart, with the changes you want in place, shifting two realities completely." She pulled her hands apart again. "Even aside from the complexities of making sure you get the right realities out of the billions there are, and making sure you have the correct points in time you need, the simple act of bringing the two strands into such close proximity cold cause an irreversible crash, making the realities bleed into each other, permanently. And then even other realities could get sucked in, causing a massive, multi dimensional disaster or even an explosion."

She threw her hands up in a 'boom' gesture before she visibly deflated again. "You'd need someone with a god like power to control something like that, to that level of efficiency. Something with the power of the wish, like a vengeance demon or a genie." She bit her lip, taking a step back from Sam to almost hide behind Xander before she looked at Sarah and Nathan, suddenly feeling a lot younger than her thousand plus years.

"I could maybe ask D'Hoffryn, see if there are any other vengeance demons in town?" After all, it wasn't like Emo boy hadn't been earning some serious wishing. Though why Faith would wish for something like this was beyond Anya.

The re-ensouling spell was an idea, but Anya frowned slightly.

"I know the spell, the soul one. If there's an Orb around I could try it, I mean I know the words and all but..."

She trailed off, trying to think about how to phrase it. "Whenever Angel was re-ensouled, it was here. He was from here, all very here-like. Faith, this version, isn't from here. Which means her soul probably isn't in this dimension. I don't know if the spell would work if we have to drag the soul back from the original dimension she came from."

Jacen met Nathan's gaze with the slightest of nods. Sam had openly threatened a member of the team and that was never a good idea. He opened himself, just slightly, in the Force, allowing Tenel Ka to sense him, sense his intentions. If Sam Winchester did anything to put anyone in danger, Jacen would knock him unconscious.

"I don't get this whole magic, dimensions, soul thing," he said after a pause. "I mean if you want a planet destroyed or someone interrogated then I'm your ex Sith Lord, but this just isn't my deal. But your whole crashing dimensions thing," he looked at Anya, bringing his hands up and knocking them together in some vague mimicry of what she'd done. "It's powerful and rare right?" The former demon nodded before Jacen carried on.

"But don't we see it happen almost every day?"

He glanced around the rest of the group. "Isn't it basically what the Powers That Be and the Senior Partners do every time they bring us here or send us back?"

Fred bit her lip, gaze going back and forth to the party speaking as her mind worked. Off of Jacen's musing, she quietly put in her two cents without meaning to. "Matter is neither created or destroyed. For every action, there is an opposite reaction." It made even more sense for a switching of the two, unless...her stomach turned at the briefest thought of that option.

There was a minute shake of her head at Sam. She liked him but the threatening had to go if they were all going to work together. She brushed a hand against the handheld tranq gun sticking out of her back pocket, something of a safety blanket, considering the last time with Angelus, just in case Faith decided to return.

"There's no harm in trying, right? We could at least eliminate or prove the possibility of re-ensouling before we give up on it." If there was even a slim chance it could help, it was worth the time taken to try.

"It is, in a way. But have they ever switched a person like this before? It's either been disappearence or appearence."

Tenel Ka's eyes visibly narrowed at the outright threat, That he thought he could just walk into the heart of AI and threaten its members, every part of Tenel Ka that was a Queen and a Leader wanted to order him to leave. But she was neither in this city and it was not her place. So she just turned to him, she was most definitly using her angry Queen Mother expression.

"Sam we're all worried, She's one of my best friends, do you think even for a moment that I would stand by and do nothing. But blaming Anya is not only foolish, its distracting. So help us and cease the attitude or as Nathan said, we can do this without you"

She opened her mind when Jacen allowed himself to be seen in the Force.

"They've made people older before" she said almost at a whisper "And they've changed things, Jacen was here before but he doesn't remember, different timelines, different decisions, changes, any little action we take, any decision can change our lives irrversably. So...perhaps its true that this Faith is the result of a decision, or a mistake made that our Faith didn't make"

She glanced across to Anya, part to question, part to make sure the former vengence demon wasn't taking Sam's threats to heart. They'd have him unconcious by the time he was finished deciding to make a move against her. He worried Tenel Ka, the darkness in him she'd seen before. She'd seen it in Jacen, more and more every visit to Hapes. And then he was lost to her forever.

But she didn't know where to begin to prove her worries.

"Anya, Could we try it? This...re-ensoulment thing. If it doesn't work then as Fred says there was no harm in trying, and if it does we can focus on getting our Faith back without worrying what her vampire counterpart may or may not be doing"
