WHO: John Winchester, Barbara Gordon WHERE: library WHEN: Saturday, May 20, 2006; afternoon [backdated] WHAT: Researching! RATING: TBD STATUS: thread; in-progress NOTES: May assignment.
After determining that the room that held this library branch's microfiche collection was locked – unsurprising to John given this day and age and the lack of respect for property in even a normal big city – and there was no library attendant in the small office in that section of the library, he headed back to one of the larger desks. While he was certain most of what he might want could be found in one online database or another, John still preferred looking at the newspapers in their entirety, to pick up all the side articles and inconsequential details that would otherwise mean searching several databases of information to line up the dates.
The woman at the desk – seated, wheelchair, he noted – had her attention on something in front of her, so John set his journal down on the counter to alert her to his presence and waited for her to look up before addressing her. He was nearly certain he recognized her from somewhere, but without a better look at her face, he was still puzzling through making the connection.
