“Oh come on, Backup.” Veronica complained as the dog pulled at her pant leg of her pj bottoms. “You really have to go out now?” But who was Veronica to question it when nature was calling her pitbull? It wasn’t like she could really have him poop in the hotel. She didn’t think Cordelia could handle something like that, and she didn’t think anyone else could either. She certainly couldn’t. She had been fast asleep, before Backup had awoken her from her blissful slumber.
She’d been dreaming of Lilly. She missed her friend so much, and she’d been enjoying the dream. Her dreams were really the only place that Veronica could see Lilly, since her friend was dead. She would never forget her, and Lilly was in Veronica’s heart and thoughts every day, but it was nice to dream about her sometimes. She’d looked exactly as Veronica remembered her, so lively and fair. It was something Veronica didn’t want to be taken from, but she had a needy dog and she couldn’t abandon him. Backup was all she had that was familiar to her, here. He was all that she had from before she had come to this place. So although, Veronica would have liked to remain in dreamland with Lilly, it wouldn’t be happening, at least not right now.
She pushed back the covers and rubbed her eyes, frowning a bit. The bracelet was still glowing on her arm. She’d tried everything to get rid of it, but the answer was clear…it would only come off when the wearer was dead. It was not that Veronica didn’t appreciate the powers, her team could really use them, but she was having some difficulty dealing with it. One minute she’d been Veronica Mars, angry sarcastic girl, and the next…Veronica Mars, Wonder Woman. It didn’t really make a lot of sense to her, especially because she didn’t even remember putting the bracelet on at all. And if someone had put it on her…to what end?
She felt okay, most of the time. She definitely felt stronger than before, but she couldn’t help but think about what she’d read about the thing. The last wearer had turned evil, and had to be forced into using it’s full powers and the bracelet had killed her. Veronica did not want to share that woman’s fate, but that was so long ago...maybe Veronica would be okay. She certainly didn’t mind the fact that she was now a 7th degree blackbelt because she’d read a ju-jitsu manual, that would probably come in handy…especially with things being as bad as they were out there.
And why hadn’t the sun come up yet? This of course was a concern for all of them… She was lucky to have a good place to stay, and she liked being able to help out, even if she tried to mostly keep to herself. She thought that a karaoke night would be just what they needed.
She sat up and sighed looking at her desperate pooch as his eyes pleaded with her to take him out. She scratched behind his ears and yawned, looking for his leash as she put on her slippers. “Okay, you win.” She whispered. “But we are not going far, and don’t even think about dragging me off.”
Veronica realized that even with her abilities, it probably was not a good idea to go alone. She’d have to ask someone to come with her, and the only person she could think of at the moment was Adam. He’d helped her research the bracelet and everything, and he’d been so good at keeping things about it quiet till Veronica really knew what was going on. Eventually she’d tell everyone else, but for now cryptic messages were all they were going to get.
When she found Backup’s leash, she hooked it to his collar and stepped out of her room, trying to be very quiet. She made her way to Adam’s room and knocked lightly on the door. For a brief moment, she wondered if she looked okay, but shrugged it off. Stuff like that didn’t matter at a time like this. “Hey Adam…” She called. “Are you still awake?” She hoped he was, because she didn’t know who else she was supposed to ask to come out with her this late.
