WHO: Zinda and Gul Dukat
WHEN: Late evening, May 12 2006
WHERE: Where Zinda is most likely to be found- a bar.
WHAT: History vs. the future.
RATING: To be decided

Unlike certain young batlings, Zinda knew how to pace herself when drinking. She'd been nursing her current drink for a while now, and losing at a game of pool against another patron. At least they weren't playing for money- truth be told, her opponent was mostly trying to hit on her, and she was flirting right back, even if she had no intention of actually leaving with him. Sometimes, it was just nice to have the ego-boost that a night out, dressed up in civvies provided.

Of course, there was a limit to how far she'd let someone go just for the ego boost. When the fellow tried to cop a feel... well, she wasn't going to put up with that. Before she had a chance to follow through on the punch she was getting ready to throw, he was shown out by one of the establishment's security guards.

The blonde pilot returned to the bar for another drink, shaking her head. "In my day," she said to no one in particular, "men knew how t'treat a lady." Okay, not necessarily true, but at least she got to punch the men who'd gotten fresh with her during the War.

The gul’s mood had taken quite a nosedive of late. He loathed the thought he was being used for some invisible forces’ amusement; he was Gul Dukat the ruler of all Cardassia! It just got under his skin that they would blatantly disregard all the toll he had gone through to get to his station in life and kidnap him not once but twice. If anyone was going to get under anyone’s skin that should be him!

Dukat had also decided on civilian garments for his evening among the human multitude, consisting of a pair of dark gray suit slacks and deep blood red long-sleeve top that allowed his length scaled and ridged neck to protrude out without it trying to strangle him. It all looked quite well on his ashen willowy frame. Physically he was rather good-looking with his slick black hair, attractive blue eyes and an appealing slim body though there was something rather serpentine about him that made the ancient mammal instinct scream ‘Danger!’

The Cardassian made his way up to the bar, his blue gaze swiping across the barroom with little interest until the puzzled bartender came over to him. “What will you have?” the bartender inquired the alien. Dukat almost ordered kanar before recalling that it wasn’t found on planet. He bit his lower lip in thought as he considered the human liquor beverages that he had tried before once more addressing the man “What is that clear liquor called?” The man arched a brow while answering his question “Ah… vodka?” Dukat nodded his dark-haired head, pointing at him to emphasis he was right on his answer “Vodka it is.”

Gul Dukat let his attention sweep across the right while he awaited for his shots, landing right on a conflict brewing between the blonde female and the not-so-subtle admirer. He observed them with a faint amused smirk, anticipating the woman’s lessen of manners in a form of a punch but disappointingly the guards took him away. He turned back to the bar in time to see his drink delivered to him. His gray digits wrapped around the small shotglass and threw it to the back of his throat, the burning sensation making him sneer. Gingerly he lifted the next when Zinda sat next to him, voicing her displeasure at how she was treated “Too bad they didn’t allow you to teach him the error of his ways…” he remarked back to her words, smirking from behind his glass mischievously before downing the second shot.

Wow, that was one heck of a skin condition, Zinda thought to herself when the man addressed her. She had to remind herself of just where she was, and who else could be brought there. She'd met aliens and otherworldly creatures before, back home, of course- Superman came to mind, and she'd seen pictures of that Starfire girl with the orange skin and hair with a life of its own. Still, greenish-grey and scaly was a new one for her.

"Yeah, well, they made bars different in my day too." Funny. She looks a little too young to be making comments about 'her day.' Her day really should be today, if she's as young as she looks. "Now they're too afraid of lawsuits and insurance fees to risk lettin' things get interesting," she says with a shake of her head.

Dukat certainly didn’t look the fifty-something years that he truly was but there was something about the way she said ‘in her time’ that made him think she was referring to a different time all together. It was something he could relate to, being that he came from hundreds of years in the future. The Cardassian chuckled amused, gesturing to the bartender for another round of shots before his attention ventured back to the blonde pilot “shame…how can one work out their differences without a little violence?” he joked, his velvety voice full of mirth the more liquor he washed down.

“Certainly the universe would definitely be a less interesting place without some aggression.” His race was definitely known as an aggressive species that often supported and induced in armed conflicts and hostile conquest. They were also hostile in other interesting areas as well. Gently the alien cocked his head in a curious manner that exposed more of his magnificent ridged throat as he studied the pretty human’s facial features “I am assuming by your words you are not from this time …like me”

"Another time, another world, far as I can tell about this place," she told him over her drink. "Fought in World War II," she shared. "I was in 1945 one day, 21st century the next. Prob'ly a shorter trip you took, by the looks of ya- no offense, but it's pretty obvious you ain't a local."

“What gave me away?” he teased in an evidently mischievous manner, chuckling before turning back to his drink “You would be correct. I’m from the planet Cardassia” He said before throwing back another one of his shots. Dukat had discovered some time before that after a few drinks he got use to that burning sensation that the vodka created in its wake. He also found that it wasn’t so bad taste wise after awhile.

“According to the human time I come from the 24th century…so roughly 400 years in the future.” How fascinating that in one location two time traveled individuals, one from human’s past while the other was from both human’s and alien’s future. What were the odds on it? But it wasn’t the time difference that intrigued him about the woman next to him, it was fact she spoke of fighting in a war and by the sound of its name it was a big one “You’re military as well?” the alien asked, arching brow ridge at her.

Zinda whistled low at that. "That's gotta be a big shock for ya- comin' back from that far ahead. Kinda makes my skippin' forward sixty-some-odd years seem a little less dramatic, that's for sure," she commented, flagging down the 'tender to get a second drink to replace her now-finished first.

"Mhm, you could say that," she answered his question with a nod. "The US military wouldn't let women fly back then, so I joined a squadron called the Blackhawks. They were mostly made up of a bunch'a fellas from countries the Axis was occupyin'" she explained, then paused before continuing. "How much do they teach ya about Earth military history in the 24th Century?" she wondered. "'Cause I know some kids today who don't know anything about the war, so I'm guessin' you might not know a whole lot 'bout what happened."

“Shock? That is one way to put it. Personally I find it infuriating that some unknown entities can just pluck us from our lives without considered we might have important matters that we are responsible for. Or that we might people we care about.” He exhaled a frustrated sigh, twisting a shotglass idly on the counter before lifting it to his lips and downed it. It was evident the way he brooded over his drinks he was quite unhappy and the way he was knocking them back his mouth filter wasn’t exactly functioning as well as it might have if he had been sober.

The Cardassian was pleased to change the subject, especially a subject closer to home. He listened to her describe her military career as a pilot to him with resistance fighters. Resistance, that definitely perked up his attention. That brought just the hint of a smirk to his lips, allowing his mind to drift to thoughts of the intriguing Major that had captivated him. There was a certain similarity that certainly undeniable. The question posed to him brought from his thoughts. The gul arched his brow ridge once more curiously “Earth’s? I would have to say my knowledge is rather sporadic on the subject. I do recall viewing something on these Axis powers here. Nazis I believe what they called them” The word occupying was all to familiar to the Cardassian’s ears, a little too familiar. The human phrase of déjà vu was quickly spring to mind.

She nodded. "The Nazis were one of 'em. The were also Japanese, the Italians, and some smaller armies," she informed him. "The Blackhawks fought alongside the Allies, even if we weren't officially part of any country's military," she shared.

Seems even a strange-looking alien could get her going once she got started on her war stories.

"We were outnumbered us five t'one on a good day, but we always sent 'em runnin' in the end," she boasted, lifting her glass a little in tribute to her old brothers-in-arms before taking a drink.

Dukat laughed delight by the woman’s story, bring his own shot up to toast her silently then dropped the liquid into his waiting mouth. Gently his pink tongue wiped across his lips, gathering in the remains of his drink “I have to say that is rather impressive” ‘For humans’ he added inside his head. It was somewhat xenophobic of him to think such a way but Cardassians were known to have a tendency of believing they were the superior race in the universe. It was truth they were a formidable species but they were hardly superior to any other race that claimed the widest of space. However, it didn’t stop them from thinking they were anyways.

“But with a resolute person like yourself at the command I’m not surprised that fled.” He smiled that charming grin then it struck him that he hadn’t introduced himself “I am Gul Dukat.”

"Ah, I wasn't in command, that was Blackhawk. He was a hell of a pilot, and a great CO," she told him. "Zinda Blake," she offered in kind when he introduced herself. "You said you were a military man?" she inquired. "That ain't a real comfortin' thought, that they still need armies 400 years in the future," she said, jokingly. "Though I guess there's always gonna be somethin'."

He grinned a charming smile, flashing Hollywood perfect rows of teeth “A pleasure Zinda” He offered her a surprised look at her words “Really? I would say by your air of authority about you that were in command. I do hope he saw enough in you to make you his first in command” “Oh I suspect we will always need armies..” He remarked back playful “but yes I am a military man. I was a gul of the Second Order of Central Command” He paused a moment to down his last shot of his second round before continuing “…now I suppose you could say I am more of a politician but my first love has always been service to Cardassia” He smiled, beaming with patriotic pride over his planet. Dukat, in his mind, believed he had ever right to be proud. His people were one of the most powerful species in the universe, even though they had suffered many setbacks and a building war between the Federation and his people and the Dominion.

She chuckled, nodding greatfuly at the compliment. "I was lucky to get in the cockpit, to be honest. Things were different back then- a woman had to work twice as hard to be thought of as half as good. The boys in the squadron would'a been fine with me as second-in-command, but they would'a taken too much crap from everyone else," she said with a shrug- she had no bitterness against her old team mates, or even most of the other men she fought alongside. There were a few crude comments from a few soldiers, sure, but a sock to the jaw always shut them up and put them on the level

"And there really wasn't a whole lotta structure anyway- there were only eight of us, after all. We were there for the cause, not to climb ranks."

She took another sip of her drink before speaking again. "I ain't really sure what a Gul is, but by the way you said it, sounds like a high rank. Have to admit, I didn't get to work a lot with the high brass types, but I got nothin' but respect for a fella who devotes his life to the service of protectin' his country. Or planet, in your case, I guess."

“Hmm…well…we Cardassians don’t share in those arcane ideas of gender bias. It isn’t uncommon for our women to serve along side their male counterparts or head important affairs for the whole of Cardassia. I find it ridiculous that they didn’t let you in the military. You’re a full capable female with obviously useful skills. Humans are so puzzling sometimes. But I am certainly glad someone recognized your usefulness”

He offered her yet another of his dazzling smiles, the perfect smile of a politician. It was the kind of smile that was handsome but it was flexible in what it was offering, was it one of friendship? Or amusement? Or flirtatious? You could draw whatever you desired out of it. “I suppose in your people’s own military Gul would equal Captain. The feeling is mutual Zinda.”
