The Doctor's answer caused Ianto to like him immediately. There was nothing that lay within the features of his face that held anything of malice or deceit about it. Certainly nothing of the destroyer of worlds that had been drummed through the many lessons of Torchwood One. But Ianto's eyes remained cautious nonetheless, and darted to where the Doctor's hand had dipped into his coat, only for them to observe that he produced nothing more malevolent than... jelly babies.
Watching him take one out and eat it safely enough, Ianto looked at the bag when it was waved under his nose. Being polite, he shifted the weight of his own bag to one arm, then dipped his fingers into the proffered treats. When he pulled them out again, there was an orange jelly baby held between their tips. He turned it around briefly. After facing down the backwash of the universe many times, it didn't seem likely that being poisoned by a sugar-coated sweet was the way he was about to go. Not unless irony's sense of humour had improved. So he lifted it to his lips and took it, his chewing releasing the saccharine taste.
He swallowed it down while he watched the Doctor. Did Jack know he was here, Ianto wondered, and assumed not, if only for the fact that he hadn't heard any mention of it. Deciding to do this for Jack - although it had occurred to him that the Doctor hadn't met the Captain yet, at least back in the universe Ianto had known - he dusted his fingers together neatly to clean them, then held his hand out in return. Except, he wasn't offering a tasty sweet, but a gesture of a proper greeting.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you. The old police box did give you away a bit."
