Entry tags:ianto jones, the doctor [four]

Who: The [Four] Doctor & Ianto Jones
What: The Doctor meets Ianto Jones
When: Afternoon
Where: Outside the HUB
Rating: TBD but probably very low

A wheezing and grinding sound filled the air, the telltale sign that the out of date TARDIS was making its presence known. Carefully it faded in then out at first before finally deciding to fade in completely, revealing the familiar blue phone box. The door was eased open; a curly head struck itself out and then appeared to check the surroundings that was followed by a large hand, the palm up, inspecting the weather for rain. But of course it was sunny, as it often was.

The owners of these appendages seemed pleased by his survey as he stepped out from the seemingly phone box. He let his lips pulled into a broad smile as he twisted back his attention to his Tardis. Softly he patted it affectionately like it were a living pet “Lovely landing as always my dear girl…” he said in praise to the Time Lord vehicle. The Doctor turned back to his and new Tardis’s new environment, taking in the air then exhaling it in a satisfied sigh before shifting his massive scarf to turn to depart. A sudden presence, he hadn’t noticed before, caught his deep sapphire colored eyes. The Time Lord offered an amiable grin to this man “Hallo!” he called happily.

The last thing Ianto had expected to hear whilst walking back to the Hub, carrying a paper bag full of various food with the intention of stocking up the depleting fridge, was the grinding noise that made him halt in his tracks. A light frown of concentration creased his brow as he located its direction, then purposefully began walking towards where it seemed to be.

Approaching the dated phone box, it took barely a second for him to correlative the unfamiliar noise with the sight of the box, and with the man who stepped out of it. Mildly surprised at his appearance, Ianto only recognised the Doctor from his days at Torchwood One, in a time when the organisation had been almost barbaric in its discrimination of the alien. Underhand comments and ruthless lessons about the 'foreign threat' had gone a long way to cement Ianto's perception of him, and it had only been when he'd joined the Cardiff branch that his opinion had started to shift. Shift, but not change completely. He trusted Jack's occasional questionable judgement, but when things came down to it, he really didn't know the remarkable alien beyond what he'd heard.

Raising a brow at the cheerful welcome he received, well... the Doctor certainly didn't look like he was any threat. But in reality, that told Ianto nothing except that he had a very infectious smile and rather shocking hair... Raising his hand in a 'hi' gesture, regardless of his uncertainty, Ianto wasn't about to walk away.

"How do you manage not to trip on that?" he asked calmly, eyes looking pointedly at the unusually huge scarf that snaked and draped around where he assumed a neck must be.

“Ah you mean this?” He inquired as he lifted a bit of his massive scarf. The Time Lord shrugged his broad shoulders while he continued to offer that friendly gesture upon his lips “I must admit I have a knack of doing the impossible my good man.” The Doctor was an intriguing sort in this incarnation with his towering height that leaned quite a ways over six feet and wild curls that framed a curiously cute face.

His large hand drifted into the pocket of his coat, drawing out a small white bag. He plucked out a piece of candy, popping it into his mouth and chewing on it quietly as he studied the young human before him. This man certainly was an interesting one, considering that he did appear startled that a police box had just appeared before his very eyes and a man, surely too big for it, popping out like he had plenty of room. The Time Lord let his thoughts wonder over the possibility that maybe they had met before though for the life of him he couldn’t recall Ianto. Well one way to find out if he knew him was to introduce himself, so he did “I’m the Doctor by the way..” He shook the small treat bag before offering it to him “Jellybaby?” he asked with an arched brow.

The Doctor's answer caused Ianto to like him immediately. There was nothing that lay within the features of his face that held anything of malice or deceit about it. Certainly nothing of the destroyer of worlds that had been drummed through the many lessons of Torchwood One. But Ianto's eyes remained cautious nonetheless, and darted to where the Doctor's hand had dipped into his coat, only for them to observe that he produced nothing more malevolent than... jelly babies.

Watching him take one out and eat it safely enough, Ianto looked at the bag when it was waved under his nose. Being polite, he shifted the weight of his own bag to one arm, then dipped his fingers into the proffered treats. When he pulled them out again, there was an orange jelly baby held between their tips. He turned it around briefly. After facing down the backwash of the universe many times, it didn't seem likely that being poisoned by a sugar-coated sweet was the way he was about to go. Not unless irony's sense of humour had improved. So he lifted it to his lips and took it, his chewing releasing the saccharine taste.

He swallowed it down while he watched the Doctor. Did Jack know he was here, Ianto wondered, and assumed not, if only for the fact that he hadn't heard any mention of it. Deciding to do this for Jack - although it had occurred to him that the Doctor hadn't met the Captain yet, at least back in the universe Ianto had known - he dusted his fingers together neatly to clean them, then held his hand out in return. Except, he wasn't offering a tasty sweet, but a gesture of a proper greeting.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you. The old police box did give you away a bit."

He grinned pleased to see that Ianto had taken one of his jellybabies and had enjoyed it. The Time Lord had a theory on the moral status of individuals and jellybabies. It wasn’t a truly logical hypothesis but from experience it hadn’t let him down and recently they had saved his life. Right away seeing the young Welshman eat the candy he knew right away that he was trustworthy. Carefully he took out another one that he popped into his mouth before placing the small bag back in his coat pocket.

Witnessing the gesture of greeting, the Doctor happily grasped his hand in his. He had sizeable hands that allowed Ianto’s to fit into his like an oversized glove. He cocked his head to one side in a questioning manner at his words as he gave him a firm handshake “You know of me then?” he asked, sort of surprised but then it started to dawn on him. This man must be a member of this Torchwood that a Captain Jack Harkness had mentioned in his invitation to join them and he recalled some of the members not being that kind towards him. As it became obvious to him it reflected in his deep heavenly blue eyes. The Doctor arched a brow as he inquired the “Ah you’re from ….Torchwood aren’t you? As I recall a few were not too fond of me.”
