Who: Nikki Wood + OPEN
What: Slaying!
When: Night
Where: LA streets, near a former vamp nest
status/rating: Incomplete/OPEN/PG-13
It was the whole process and feel of having a stake back in her hands that put Nikki back into the head space she knew she was supposed to be in. Los Angeles was larger than Manhattan in terms of the amount of space to cover. But that smaller space kept all the people contained and, in a way, Nikki had considered that something of a blessing. There were plenty of places to hide, but she could patrol from 145th, down to the Trade Center and hit them all in one night if she was on top of her game, and rotate through the boroughs as she saw fit. When Faith had showed her a map of the city and handed her assignments Nikki had quickly realised that that wasn't going to be possible in LA. The place was sprawling.
Eventually she'd get it, but for now she was fine with going someplace specific, doing the job, and getting out. From point A to B with no stops in the middle, mostly because she had no idea if dying here would result in coming back to life again. maybe this wasn't her own time, but Nikki still felt as if she had too much to live for. She hadn't last nearly seven years for nothing.
Nikki was brushing dust off her arms (her bare arms, mind you, because she couldn't bring herself to replace her coat) after finishing off the nest she'd been sent out to. With stakes, fists, and a few matches she'd managed to finish the job with only a few 'suckers escaping before she could get to them. But Nikki was nothing if not thorough and to actually get to point B she went out after the rest. None of them made it very far, and it seemed to her like the average vampire here was about as dumb as they'd been back in New York in '77. They hadn't split up and after getting thrown against the side of a building one or two times herself, they didn't prove very hard to finish off. Her back bruised and her hair was messed up, but after the longest break she'd taken aside from just after having Robin, she still had her slaying groove.
She started back in the direction she'd came after sticking her stake back in her belt and pulling a pick out of her back pocket. It was weird, patting around for things in the wrong places. Yeah, she missed her coat. Her Lucky Strikes were missing, along with the lighter Lin had given her, she felt like she didn't have enough room for stakes, and she was going to have to replace Bernard's old brass knuckles. They were just all the little things that made her who she was and Nikki was jonesing for them back.
