Ethan normally didn't take walks this late in the evening, but a recent headache and the need to get some fresh air prompted the man to do just that. He was already dressed, and his shoes were already on. All he had to do was throw on his coat, and grab his keys and wallet. He never knew when the urge to get a cup of coffee would strike, and his money would be very useful. When these items were safely with him he stepped out of his apartment and outside. There was a slight chill to the air, but it wasn't bad at all. Still, he was glad that he had chosen to wear his coat.
He chose a direction and started to walk. He didn't have a plan about where to go, but that was okay with him. The fresh air felt good, and just moving around was something he welcomed. As he walked; Ethan couldn't help but to observe the other pedestrians. There were quite a few young people walking around for enjoyment, some were walking to get somewhere quickly, while others seemed to be walking to release some pent up stress. There wasn't anything happening that was out of the ordinary; well at least not for Los Angeles. Ethan had walked about four city blocks within half an hour; in the distance he noticed a curious looking shop. Well, maybe he'd take look inside. The shop was another block away; Ethan crossed the street, and continued moving forward.
All things were going well until a sudden sharp pain struck Ethan between the eyes. As if by reflex the man doubled over; his eyes squeezed shut; and his right hand pinching the bridge of his nose. Not this again! Ethan thought to himself. He no longer saw the streets, but instead saw images flashing through his mind. A woman with her back turned standing over a man that Ethan couldn't see. A brief flash of a knife. One more brief flash; this time of the victim. When the visions had ended; Ethan was still doubled over, but slowly standing up. "I better get that man some help."
Ethan turned around, and headed home. This time his pacing was a lot faster, and it almost looked like he would start running soon. A few people accidentally got in his way, and they were accidentally pushed against. Ethan called out an apology, but more out of courtesy than anything else. When he arrived at his apartment; he threw the door open; closed it; tossed off his jacket; and went straight for his computer. The boards were great about tracking people down. True enough; within five minutes Ethan had found a public post made by the man in his vision.
Jack Harkness.
Ethan went to write for help.
