The warehouse sat in a vast lot that was far removed from the nearest buildings and homes. The ground was covered with ferns and debris. Not much was out here, which gave one the perfect setting should they wish to hide from the population of LA.
Inside was a being that had seen more than fair share of different settings. This was where the Vampire Emperor Kain had chosen to call home for now. It was a deceptively lackluster location, and he had intentionally chosen it that way. He smiled at how the building would be perceived from the outside.
From the outside, it looked like an abandon factory like any other one might find dotting the landscape, or a warehouse. If they only knew that inside he had furnished it with the finest fabrics and luxuries that could be afforded by the people here, brought to him by mind-controlled humans who didn’t truly know what they were doing. He ensured they weren’t harmed in the process, and the result was a much more useful dwelling spot than before. Using his powers, he had shaped the place into some semblance of sophistication. This was only a temporary shelter, but he wasn’t going to live like a vagrant scraping by on mere scraps of comfort. It wasn’t Vorador’s level of sophistication, but it would do for now.
He had to admit, he had been a bit despondent lately; disillusioned with the situation around him. He had not been on the boards for a while, and he doubted he would be getting online anytime soon. Huh. Amazing at how he got used to those human terms so quickly.
Faith’s words rang in his mind. He knew nothing of this world. He knew nothing of the Jedi. Because he was not a Slayer, or one of a few Jedi, he was nothing. He had tried to help, taking out a few vampires, and he had been even looking forward to meeting the older vampires, so he could test his abilities against them, despite what that insolent girl said about him being no match for them. But it didn’t matter in the slightest. Ungrateful humans. Always the same. No matter what you did for them, they always went back on their word and spit on you. Sometimes he wondered what was the point.
Why would the Powers That Be bring him here? He couldn’t help this world, when everybody hated his kind and rebuffed every attempt to help them. And that wasn’t the only issue. There was also the issue of the time frame.
It was too much. The transition between not just hundreds, but thousand of years into the future of an entirely different world. It would have been too much on Nosgoth, had the transition happened there. Several hundred years he could handle, but thousands? No. He would have done what he needed to and then gotten back to his own time. He didn’t want to know the future. He just wanted to fix the past, and then the present.
He didn’t belong here, especially if the reason he suspected behind his visit here turned out to be true. Kain believed he had finally figured out the reason behind his presence here. It hadn’t been the Powers That Be that brought him here. He had been brought here by the Senior Partners, for the purpose of distracting their enemies.
He was a distraction. He had been brought here to distract the Slayers, and he had fallen for it hook, line and sinker, distracting the Slayer and no doubt allowing whatever atrocity occurred in Tokyo to happen.
Well, he was putting a stop to that. From now on, he wasn’t going to serve the Senior Partners in any capacity. Kain knew what he needed to do, and he had to do it fast. He had to find a way home.
He sat in a chair, staring at the flames in the fireplace. The flames were almost hypnotizing, he reflected to himself silently. Kain wasn’t afraid of fire like other vampires were. Fire was damaging to everyone, wasn’t it? There was no need to be afraid of something that wasn’t only damaging particularly to vampires. He just had to keep a careful distance, like everyone else.
