The future was everchanging, it always had been. Yes, there were some constants – many times many constants – but every choice made or not made, every small left or right physically and metaphorically, left a mark in Alice's farsight as a possible future. Adjusting to LA had been difficult months ago, as the sheer amount of input from having so many humans and non-humans in one place had been overwhelming at times, but Alice had learned to manage it. Instances of destiny happened far more here than in her decades of vampire life, but those had served to ground the constantly shifting future landscape.
Leaving for those months, despite being a short time to her, had thrown off that balance she had achieved with Los Angeles, but it had returned again, and with it more marked destiny, including the one that lead her to Cathy Hyatt. But Cathy was in danger, as was the man she loved, Lindsey, and Alice's last week had been spent trying to sort out the hows and whens and whys.
There were undefined parts to all of it, as well as the continually moving possible futures, most of them with the same 'theme' but never the same act or end. The undefined parts were, as always, the choices outside influences had yet to make, but the persistence of those undefined places, keeping her from locking onto certain details, were what had made Alice suspect the Senior Partners, because their actions, as well as the Powers That Be, weren't something she could follow the varied futures to find. Sometimes their decisions came without warning, but as long as there were others involved, she could still sort out the other side.
Which was why she had spent so much time lately searching the future, sketching what she saw, trying to find the clue that would give her solid proof. They would need proof, perhaps Cathy not as much, but Lindsey definitely. Very lawyerly. It amused Alice, which was why, despite the severity of the situation, a smile curved her lips briefly before she opened her eyes and focused on Jasper, grounding herself again in the present.
