More often than not in her line of work, Barbara Gordon hated being right. This, she decided as she watched the evening news out of the corner of her eye, was one of those times. She knew the words that were coming before they left the reporter's mouth. Lazarus Pits. One of the many banes of her post-Batgirl existence.
There's nothing wrong with what you want. She could practically hear Dinah's voice in her head. You're not, and would never, try to use them like him.
"I know, but that's not the point."
Then what is?
"They're dangerous, Dinah."
They gave me back they cry, they could give you back your—
"I don't want that back."
Look me in the eye and tell me that, Babs.
She never had and that alone bothered her, but she couldn't lie to her best friend. It wasn't in her. Especially not when parts of her had always felt that Dinah was right. But emotion had never outweighed the fact that that the Pits were bad news in the wrong hands and more often than not, that's where they were. Ra's, Nyssa, and Talia. They Pits had slowly drawn away the sanity of the first two and while Babs knew nothing about Talia's usage or lack thereof, she had to say… the other woman looked very good for thirty-six.
Babs stated at the words typed out on her computer screen: 'if you haven't already, you'll be hearing about something called a Lazarus Pit. Stay away from it." That wasn't going to do a thing. Hell, telling people to say away would likely only pique curiosity.
She'd considered the morality option, the reasons that kept her away from the things, but getting into yet another moral argument with someone was not something she was looking forward to. She had the feeling that the argument of it not being fair to have access to something that so many people did not wasn't reasoning that would fly here, especially not with Talia seemingly offering the pits to the entirety of the city. She was going about it perfectly, even setting up a post immersion quarantine for those who didn't have family and friends equipped to deal with the side effects. The set-up was done almost too well and only made her think once more that a direct warning was needed.
Are you letting your resentment of Talia cloud your judgement? Like you did with Shiva.
Babs rolled her eyes at the Dinah who wasn't actually there. "No. I'm letting my knowledge of what the Lazarus Pits did to Ra's and Nyssa guide my decisions." She looked back up at the screen and rewound the new report. Watching it again didn't do anything to sooth her nerves and as soon as she heard Dinah's voice pipe up again she shushed it. Second guessing herself wouldn't do her any good.
"Unbiased," she muttered to herself. "Stick to the facts."
She backspaced her previous entry and started typing anew, completely failing to realize that the comm links had been open the entire time.
