There was a steaming ivory cup filled with ginger tea, untouched and cooling in front of her. She reached out and put a hand to the side, felt the warmth seep through her cold skin and then pulled away, put her arm back to her side. She was rigid, motionless as she sat with her back pushed up against a black chair. The beverage had been ordered but not once put to her lips. It was just there for show, to help her blend in with her surroundings better, with more accuracy.
The clock hanging above the counter read 2:49 pm, but from the darkness outside it would be difficult to take a guess without first looking to the time. As she sat there she wondered about the eclipse. It should have ended by now, should have ceased to exist entirely. But it just went on and on and the shadows prevailed, lurking in every nook and cranny, turning the city into an even more dangerous place than it already was. It was very peculiar, very interesting in its own way.
Her untouched tea was growing cold and she was becoming restless with every second that passed. Patrons came in through the door, the bell rang and they took their seats, chose their preferred drinks, their pastries wrapped in napkins, and then settled into quiet conversation. She stole small glances but always turned back to her cup, not wanting to fool anyone into believing that she would have enjoyed company.
Perhaps, those who were familiar with supernaturals would be able to see her for what she really was; something that wasn’t at all human, not even close. But for now nobody seemed to notice that, although people did stop and stare, bewildered and impressed by a woman who carried her beauty so elegantly, so uniquely. They always gawked, always drooled over her, but she rarely paid them any attention.
They were all the same, all human and all foolish, so eager to swoon over something unordinary pretty. Rosalie ignored them and sat back, still restless but not yet ready to leave her place.
