WHO: anakin skywalker Darth Vader
WHAT: falling back to the Dark Side
WHERE: the streets of Los Angeles
WHEN: February 9th, evening
RATING: PG-13
STATUS: COMPLETE
The darkness that had taken over the world had been bothering him for a while now. While the part of him that was still Anakin Skywalker had been in control since he'd found himself in Los Angeles upon his death on the second Death Star, the part that was Darth Vader hadn't gone away. The dragon was still there, whispering to him, mocking him, tempting him. But the man managed to keep that side at bay. Managed to hold back from doing the wrongs that Vader so badly wanted to do.
Pathetic.
The word echoed in his mind as he wandered the streets, lightsaber in hand, though the blade was not activated. His blue eyes darted back and fourth, looking at the people with frowns and worry lines etched into the features, pushed into a state of despair by the disappearance of the sun. A part of him felt bad for the people, alone in the darkness, but an increasingly larger part of him sneered and rolled his eyes, muttering about how useless the people were. There was nothing wrong with the a little darkness.
Nothing wrong at all, Skywalker.
He stopped, the voice of the dragon becoming louder in his head.
Oh, is the big bad Jedi afraid of the dark?
Fixing a glare into his expression that made a homeless man who had approached him back away quickly, Anakin continued walking, trying his best to shove the voice echoing in his head away.
You did it. You killed her. It was all you.
Yes. He had killed her, even if Padmé insisted that he death had been her own doing. He was well aware of what he did and did not need the dragon reminding him of such. He wasn't that monster anymore, wasn't Vader, wasn't a killer. And she was alive now. He was no longer affiliated with the Sith, wasn't part of the Dark Side. He was good again. He was.
Poor confused little Ani. Haven't you realized by now that you never left?
Anakin halted again. This time not only because of the dragon's voice, but because of the sight before him. Something that made what was left of Anakin shrink back, wanting to escape what his eyes were seeing, his ears were hearing, and almost willingly let the Vader personality take charge. And it did, the dragon pushed out of the cage Anakin Skywalker had thrown him in, spreading his great, black wings and taking flight a deadly sort of smirk formed on the face of the man who now silently declared Anakin gone for good.
And it was all thanks to a little homeless boy desperately shaking the lifeless corpse of his mother as he cried and screamed. The boy was all alone now and wailed on about just that, looking up and asking for help when Vader stepped near. And oh, how the Sith Lord's grin grew at such a request.
"Of course," Vader said and promptly activated his blade, slicing through the boy in a fluid, precise movement. "There, now you are not alone. You are nothing. Just like he was."
Yes, that's what Anakin Skywalker now was. Nothing.
