She wasn't quite sure how it happened, somehow a small gathering with the Queen and woman of nobility from Tortall had turned into a question session on Yamani customs, and with both of her Ladies in Waiting otherwise occupied, Shinko was alone to answer all the questions. Somehow she had been talked into going to get both her Shukusen, an ordinary looking fan with a razor sharp blade hidden in it, for the ladies to see. Many of them seemed to be generally interested in the hidden weapon meant for nobel women. At least they hadn't been interested in the Yamani glaive, for Shinko didn't really feel like giving a demonstration in that art. The woman did want to learn how to play Fan Toss, a game more for show than anything involving the deadly but pretty fan.
In her room, Shinko selected her Shukusen of choice, a bright one that started as a deep read colour and made the transition from orange to yellow from the tip, giving the impression of fire when thrown. She checked the blade, before folding the fan closed with a snap, and tucking into the Obi of her Kimmono along side her every day use fan.
The older woman were waiting for the princess to return, no doubt right now discussing their husbands. For a moment, she thought longingly of Road, wondering if he was safe. She knew he was, but that wasn't the point. He was at war, a war that had forced them to put off their marriage. Masking her disappointment behind a blank unemotional face, Shinko left her chambers, and started to head back to the Royal Wing, where the gathering was being held.
As she approached the doors, she could hear the laughter of the woman. How free these people were to show how they felt. While she knew it was not considered rude here, it was not a concept Shinko could fully take part in yet. The guards outside the door stood up straight when they saw her coming. Even if she wasn't wearing a tiara on her head, no one could mistake the princess for someone else, there were only three woman with her kind of features in the palace. The guards moved to open the door for her, and as they did so, she walked forward.
She could see the woman infront of her, all eyes looking up as the princess neared the door. However, when she stepped though the door, suddenly everything was different. The room was gone, and in it's spot, were the dark outlines of trees. Shinko spun around, her clam face momentarily replaced by surprise. The door was gone, so were the guards. She was standing in what looked like some kind of woods, only with a path cutting though it. A very well cut out path, lined in stone.
"Thayet?" she called out softly, wondering where her future mother in law was. When no answer came, Shinko looked around again. Where ever she was, it was night time. It seemed to her she had two options, wonder into the trees, or follow the strangely carved path. Option number two would be the wisest. And so she started off, silk slippers making little sound. Was this some part of the palace? What kind of strange magic was this? As far as she knew, there was no curse on the door she had walked through, no power to that room, except maybe a few protection spells. It wasn't like it held the same power as the Chamber door.
When she heard footsteps behind her, Shinko spun around, her face still blank. "It's not a very smart idea to be out alone in a time like this." the man spoke to her. He was speaking Common, but with a very different accent then what she was use to. Shinko's hand automatically went for her metal fan, bringing it out and snapping it open. This only made the man laugh, he didn't know what it was. "Pretty fan, sweetheart. Pretty girl. Why don't you come on over here and we'll have some fun?" Shinko raised her fan, turning her head away and covering her face with the cloth. The mans words were both rude and improper. He could be killed for speaking to her like this.
Another man's laugh reached her ears, and she looked over her shoulder. There were two of them, both on either end of the path. They were trapping her. Her eyes darted from one man to the other. Could she take on two men? That depended on how well they knew to fight. As delicate as the princess looked, she knew how to hold her own. She turned so the men were on either side of her. Hopefully the guards arrived soon, these men would be lucky to escape a hanging for what they were trying to do. It was when their faces contorted into something entirely not human that she became worried. These men were not human. Were they some kind of Immortal she was not aware of?
Though the fear was building up in her, she didn't let it show. Instead, she waited, ignoring the jeers and inappropriate comments that would make any proper woman blush. She didn't think she could fight these men, not without her glaive. When the first man lunged, Shinko ducked, barley getting out of his way. Instead of returning to a standing position, she crouched down in a defense stance, her fan held firmly in her hand, the blade hidden beneath the decorations. She met the creatures twisted faces with a hard glare of her own. Mentally she tried to figure out how to get out of this while she waited for them to try attacking again.
