Veronica hadn't been very happy to find herself in the city of Los Angeles, California, seemingly in the past in some dumpy little apartment that made the Camelot look like the Crown Plaza Hotel. At least for some reason first month's rent seemed to be paid, not that it could be much in this barely studio apartment she was living in. The bed was nice though, at least there was that from the previous occupant. She'd changed the bedding of course, and in fact had meticulously cleaned every inch of the apartment. She and her father had watched far too many specials to be too careful about occupying a previously occupied room.
She'd spent a good chunk of the money that she'd had when she'd gotten here on cleaning products, new bedding and other things that she might need as long as she was stuck here. Now she had food and drinks and cleaning products, but her money was running out and a job would be necessary. She didn't think anyone here would take a teenage PI seriously, even if she was very good at what she did. So now she was faced with a mountain of applications from various coffee shops and clubs and little shops that she'd started to fill out.
Her hand hurt from all of the writing she'd been doing, and she needed a break. She'd been up all night. It was day now though, and probably safe to go out. She needed a good strong cup of coffee if she was going to continue this process. She set the pen down and closed her laptop, sighing softly. She stretched and stood up, grabbing some of her clothes and moving into the bathroom. It was Los Angeles, which was much warmer than New York so she chose a semi-short jean skirt and a pink halter top. After she'd showered and dressed, she put her hair into pig tails and tugged on her shoes.
She was all ready to face the day, even if she was still exhausted. She couldn't keep pulling these all nighters but she had to find a decent job or she was not going to be able to pay rent, and she didn't know anyone here enough to ask for a loan, plus she was a Mars and that made her very stubborn about such matters anyway. She was going to get by, she was a strong girl.
She'd probably have to enroll in a college around here too, since it looked like Hearst was now out of the question. What kind of city trapped people once they were inside and didn't let them go? Luckily, Veronica could adapt to change. She'd done so well enough after Lilly died and she'd become the school pariah, she was strong enough to endure that and she could endure this too.
One more glance in the mirror to fix her bangs and then she slung her bag over her shoulder after slipping her macbook inside. She grabbed the few applications that she'd already filled out and headed out into the day, seeking coffee and maybe if she was lucky, a job. She slipped her earbuds into her ears and as the sounds of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" blasted from her ipod, she walked down the street, almost oblivious to the busy streets around her.
