Since he couldn't willingly leave the city, Clark knew that he would do the most with his time here. Doing his best and then some. Saving lives. Stopping disasters. Fighting evil. He'd done the same back home in Smallville, metropolis, or wherever he found himself. This was a city too. The only difference was that it was more bizarre and sinister than others.. at least during the night. There were good things, but the darkness was just hidden most of the time.
Like tonight. He had managed to stop a robber from killing a married couple from an alley. That fool had been surprised to find himself tied up to a lamp post in front of a police station. And then there was a car flipped over in front of a closed store. One could smell the gas. He had, after pulling the doors off, been able to get the family out.. a breath of his own air was enough to delay the explosion until they were at a safe distance. And now.. as he flew over the city, he heard a cry for help.
Closing in, he saw a young woman hanging outside the ledge of a window eight stories up. There was no time to waste. He took off in a blur, and just when the person fell a couple feet, Clark caught them. "Don't worry.. I'll take you down." Seeing their surprised look, he slowly descended downward until they'd reached the ground. "Why were you hanging? if I can ask."
The woman, still seeming confused, with a How did you do that? look on her face, just pointed up. "Umm.. my cat. She was outside on the ledge. I was trying to get her back in. Could you.."
He looked upward. Narrowing her eyes, he saw a tabby feline mewing, walking on he ledge. "Sure, be right back." He'd soared up, and cautiously approached the animal. After coaxing it a bit, he had her in his arms. Then he floated down to the woman and handed the pet to her. "There you go. Just.. maybe, keep the window closed at night. It's a dangerous city." Smiling at her thanks, he watched as she went back inside her apartment. Then he turned around and kept his ears open for the next person in need..
