Katherine Grace McAvera was…growing restless. It was wonderful to have been reunited with her brother, and she had grown close to some of the hotel’s inhabitants, but at present, all of them were preoccupied. An early riser, she had spent the morning in front of the ‘television’, but the appeal of the glowing black box was fast wearing off. What she really wanted was to play in the garden, as she so often had back at home, in Galway. However, Annie was nowhere to be found and the child’s attention span had reached the end of its fuse when it came to finding ways to entertain herself. The plate holding pile of a loaf’s worth in pieces of toast—experiments with the ‘toaster’ device, as she had ceased only upon finding the perfect setting for a golden-brown piece of bread—could attest to that.
And so, she decided to seek out her brother, certain that he at least might give her a few moments of his time. She found him in his office, and invited herself in without hesitation.
“G’mornin’!” Kathy greeted enthusiastically, making her way behind his desk and leaning in to throw her arms around him. She really was a loveable child, if perhaps a little eager to please. There had been a definite change in her brother since they last met, and although any fool could see that it was for the better, somehow she felt as though she must work to earn the affections of this new version of Liam. “I made breakfast!”
