He saw her point, even if he wasn't sure he completely agreed with it. The knowledge that he had once been a psychopathic killer was bad enough...he definitely didn't want to do anything that could even possibly cause some sort of return to that past version of himself. Still, he trusted her, and he would be lying to himself if he denied a curiosity about his original power.
"Alright, I'll try it. I mean, if I just concentrate on little things, what's the worst that could happen, right?" He didn't wait for an answer...now that he had decided to go through with it, he wanted to avoid even a second of hesitation or second thought. He raised his wrist to his eye-level, and stared at the watch on his wrist. It only made sense to start with a watch, right?
He began to concentrate on it, to try and "see" into it, and was disappointed at first to find nothing happening. But then, suddenly, it was if the watch "opened up" for him, and although he knew it was not changing in any physical sense, it was like he could see into it. It's inner workings were his to see, to understand. It all made sense...he could tell how every single small piece worked together. If he had to, he knew he could take apart and reassemble the watch in a manner of minutes without affecting it's performance. He couldn't resist smiling.
"This is...amazing." He looked up at Claire, unable to contain the excitement within him. To an outside observer this might seem like the least impressive of his powers, but he knew better. He knew how his past self had used this ability, and now he understood it.
With this ability at his disposal, he was perfectly capable of unlocking the secrets behind anything...including other powers. Sylar had used it for evil, but what if he were to use it for more productive means? It was just a matter of controlling it, and he was certain he could. After all, he wasn't Sylar anymore. He knew he wasn't. And it was all thanks to Claire. And now, he thought, he would need her help again. Because if he was going to figure out if he could truly use this power in the way he thought, and control it, it would require a test.
He dropped his wrist back to his side, and walked towards the girl. "It worked. But...I need to be sure of one thing." As he spoke, he was unaware of the slightly sinister look that had inadvertently begun to cross his features.
