"Clark--!"
"Shh!"
His lips met hers, hard, but somehow undeniably gentle at the same time.
It felt like a kiss goodbye, and she hated it.
And she sort of hated what he said next.
"Just remember, Lois... No matter what happens... I will always love you."
He flew off, leaving only a tattered piece of his uniform in her hand. She pleaded for him to come back, but he didn't.
Mere minutes passed before he was in her arms again.
But this time, he wasn't even able to stand.
She cradled him in her arms, and with his last breath, he asked her if that monster was dead. As soon as the question was answered, she saw his eyes close, and his body went limp in her arms.
He was gone.
Her lover was gone.
---
Lois shot up in the bed, trembling, breathing heavily.
Oh, God.
Another dream.
Another horrible nightmare.
She felt tears well up in her eyes, as she looked around the dark room, and realized, again, where she was.
A hoarse sob left her throat, as she moved to get out of the bed, and over to the window.
Peeking through the curtains, she looked up and saw a nearly clear night sky... except for one lone star. A single star, shining in the night sky, so bright and beautiful, it nearly made her eyes hurt.
She squeezed her eyes shut, sniffling. Oh lord... could he really be alive, like She said? Could he ever show up here? Could he ever, would he ever, forgive me for what I did? Please... let it be true.
She sobbed again, opening her eyes again. She drifted back over to the bed, lying down again, and as she cried herself back to sleep, a single thought filled her mind.
Come back to me. Oh, Clark, please come back to me...
